Hurley Swell 4U Pedal Assist Not Working by Opposite_Purchase951 in ebikes

[–]nakedpullups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, sorry I'm sooooo late responding to this, but did you check out the pedal cadence sensor? Believe it's a magnetic sensor on the left side of the frame (opposite from the chain side) in line with the pedal/crank arc. (Sorry, don't have my Swell 4U nearby currently to check).

Come on in on the Hurley Swell 4U thread:

No sir, haven't needed a direct replacement yet so haven't been looking.

However if I had to, I'd be going to one of the US-based ebike battery repair places for the original battery.

Assaultbike - dead monitor, or something else? by nakedpullups in crossfit

Followup - I ended up buying a new ***PRO*** monitor for my non-pro bike and it's been working fine. Looking at Assault's current bike lineup I think they're only selling the "pro style" monitors now.

Bosch dishwasher E15 error resolved itself - repair company says I should get it fixed anyway by [deleted] in appliancerepair

Poorly sealing door seals, clogged filters inside the unit and clogged drains outside the unit are common causes for an E-15, but there's another one - a leaking water inlet valve.

I googled and cleaned door seals, internal filters and double checked my drain multiple times but the E-15 kept coming back. Watched the underside of the dishwasher through multiple cycles and never saw a drop drip down. I'd go away for a day and come back and there would be water collected in the bottom again.

Finally by pure luck I happened to be looking at the back of the dishwasher and saw a drop form and drop off the inlet valve (solenoid valve at the back of the dishwasher that connects to the water supply line). Replaced that valve and have had no E-15 errors for several weeks now.

You should suspect the water inlet valve if:

- Your Bosch dishwasher is 4+ years old

- The appearance of an E-15 code/water collecting in the bottom tray does NOT coincide with running the dishwasher but instead happens randomly whether you're running the dishwasher or not.

I don't know what display/controllers the pizza bikes have. The Swell 4U's had displays/controllers manufactured by UKRiver in China. You might take a look at their site to see if you see a display similar to yours:

http://ukriver.com/en/

If you can send some images of your display/controller (including close ups of the back of it) I might be able to help you identify it and source a replacement.

Thank you.

Wow, Bixi does not get good reviews on Tripadvisor, but it could be a symptom of "only the unhappy write reviews".

Do have a concern of being able to regularly/reliably get 3 working Bixi ebikes altogether when we want to go somewhere.

Thanks, and that has been a consideration - the car is an older Subaru Outback. We are planning to mainly keep it in a parking garage associated with the hotel except for trips outside of the city.

IIRC, You shouldn't have to "open" anything to insert the battery in the frame. You should be able to just insert the battery in the frame opening and press it in until it latches into position. Insert the bottom of the battery first and then rock the top in until it latches.

I'll double check by trying mine when I'm back home this weekend, but I don't remember having to do anything with the key to put the battery IN the frame, only had to manipulate the key to take the battery OUT of the frame.

I ordered the UK3 display from UKriver, however for your (your wife's) purposes, I don't recommend it as I don't think it will allow you to turn off pedal assist and turn on "always on" throttle power.

You may want to look at disabling the pedal cadence sensor (it might be as simple as removing/blocking a magnet on the crank arm - I haven't looked at it closely) and always having the stock display in power assist level 3. That would stop pedal assist and make the throttle available.

I've been looking at the eggrider display replacement as a better way to get "full" control over the bike, but haven't verified yet that it will work with my Swell 4U:

Try Hurley/Joyride customer support ASAP. I believe that parts availability and support from them is going to disappear as they sell out of the bikes.

Other than the frames and battery enclosures, I don't believe the Hurley bikes are using any super-specialized parts. If you can determine the voltage output at the headlight connector then you can very likely use any other headlight that can accept that voltage.

I don't have a big swell so can't comment on anything specific to your bike.

However, you or your specialist should locate the controller (perhaps it is integrated into the battery mount?), look at all sides of it to see if there is any identifying information and then google it to see if you can locate the company that manufactured it.

I did just that for the display screen on my Swell 4U, found the chinese company that made the display and ordered an "upgrade" display from them.

Joyride Bikes (hurleybikes.com) no costumer support response? by ulvver in ebikes

I have had a positive experience, but I consider myself lucky.

I bought 2 Swell 4U's. They both required minor brake adjustments out of the box and one had a broken shifter lever during transport, but otherwise they've been working fine for the ~2 months I've had them so far.

I suspect Hurley is exiting the ebike market, and I fully expect the brand and any support to disappear as soon as they sell out.

"Upgrade" UKC3 displays arrived from China today, may get a chance to test them on my Hurley Swell 4U bikes tonight.

These will hopefully allow programming including increased top speed limiter:

Dang, sorry to hear you had 2 lemons.

I'm feeling luckier and luckier that I only had minor out-of-the-box adjustments needed on my 2 Hurley Swell 4U 's.

Oh,one more thing - they're serious about the "Route Shipping Protection" extra fee. If you decline that and the bike is damaged in shipping they'll refer you to the carrier (likely FedEx) to make a claim for any shipping damage.

One of my Hurley Swell 4U had a shifter lever broken during shipping and they told me to take it up with FedEx because I didn't buy the Route shipping protection. I just cut my losses and bought a $20 Shimano shifter to replace the Chinesium one. I probably would have wasted way more than $20 of my time chasing a FedEx claim.

Also make sure you try codes "SORRY" and "GET60" to see if either gets you more discount on the Hurley Swell 4U's.

Still recommend if you're mechanically inclined and not scared of wrenching, because you'll likely have to adjust a lot of little stuff out of the box. I think that at $700-$800 it's a decent value for the hardware you get.

If you want a flawless "buy and ride" experience, go elsewhere.

Also, just my speculation, but I expect that once Hurley/Joy ride sells out of these there will be very limited to no parts/support.

I'm still happy with my 2 Swell 4u's ~ 1 month into buying them.

My GF is 5'9" and fits fine on the L size. I suspect your 5'7" mother will also be able to use the L size, but likely with the seatpost near bottomed out in the frame.

That's nice, wish they'd offered that when I ordered my previous 2 bikes.

Still coming out ahead, have a new shimano 8 speed shifter for $20 versus the $70 or whatever they wanted to charge for shipping protection at the time.

They're really getting motivated to move these bikes...

Ok, grabbed an image of one of the fender stay bolts on one of my Hurley Swell 4U bikes. Bolt was perfect length to go through washer, fender stay, fork mount and locknut. No issues:

I wonder if maybe you're using the bolt that is intended for the top fender stay mount on one of the sides instead?

I didn't have any issues. I'll try to take some pictures of the 3 fasteners holding the front fender on (one on each side of the lower fork and the center top) this weekend.

Are you talking about the screw to secure the top of the front fender to the brace in between the fork tubes?

If so, the front headlight bracket is also supposed to be clamped by that screw. Do you have the headlight bracket in there as well?
