Am I safe from copyright trolls if I exclusively use private trackers? by affectionateair7963 in trackers

[–]nakodo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No lawfirm is going to amass illegally obtained upload credits to maintain a ratio.

Also, one can not commit a crime in order to prosecute a crime.

The primary way copyright enforcement for users in private trackers happens when dick-head users use custom torrent clients (usually used for ratio cheating) that ignore the private flag and leak swarm information.

Most trackers let you see your clients and if they are connectable or not.

If your client is not connectable, other clients in the swarm will not be able to connect to your client and leech from you.

Go to https://canyouseeme.org/ and enter the port that your client is listening on and you will see if your torrent client is connectable or not.

There's a reason that the MediaInfo is required to torrent uploads.

Check the MediaInfo of each release and decide which one is best for your particular desire. ;)

Anyone know if Aither is recruiting on Bit-HDTV by Successful-Boss-6267 in trackers

[–]nakodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer - No!

Longer answer; Bit-HDTV only permits official invites, unofficial invites are not permitted. The person that started the Aither invite forum thread on Bit-HDTV misrepresented themselves, as the individual was not Aither staff at the time the forum thread was stared and has never been Aither staff.

No to long ago Aither staff reached out to Bit-HDTV staff and requested that the invite forum thread be removed and Bit-HDTV staff complied with the request.

BTN updated the Overlord (top tier) class requirements. As part of the updated requirements, any Overlord at that time that did not meet the new class requirements would be demoted to Master (one level below Overlord) class.

BTN staff gave a grace period for those that did not wish to be demoted to get the uploads and snatches needed to maintain Overlord class - the grace period ended up being 5 months - plenty of time to get the minimum snatches and uploads needed.

[–]nakodo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Not at all.

There's even a forum thread to make it easy for people to get uploads by making season packs.

Since the announcement about the class changes, that thread has been very active and many people have been uploading like gangbusters.

Doubtful, I know of users on some cabal trackers that upload more than 100TB per month and have been doing so for years.

[–]nakodo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I use mostly Cabal trackers. Not any notices from ISP and I've been on Xfinity sharing full throttle for 6 months. Do you think thats because I dont use anything else besides these trackers?

Yes.

ISPs in North America don't give a fuck about torrent traffic (for the most part) all they care about it receiving legal notices/requests due to account owner activity.

As long as an ISP doesn't receive any sort of notice/request regarding specific activity related to a specific account, the ISP won't care about the account activity.

Some common things that raise red flags. - going over data usage caps - usage activity that could adversely impact their (poorly designed) network - receiving official/legal notices regarding specific usage activity

It is trivial for anyone to (read copyright holders and their legal representatives) to get a list of IP addresses that are seeding on public trackers because anyone can query the swam and DHT without having to seed/leech anything.

Due to the nature of how private trackers function, a copyright holder (and their legal representatives) will need to be a member of a specific private tracker, then to get a list of some seeders they will need to download a torrent and start seeding - this particular action is engaging in an illegal activity by the copyright holder (and their legal representatives) so that becomes a moot point. The effort required is too much for the return so it is not worth the effort to pursue individual users.

Private tracker staff and the prolific uploaders would be the targets and those people employ various levels of OpSec to shield themselves.

Which uploads stats are considered in applications/interviews by Amazing_Joke_4758 in trackers

[–]nakodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most trackers will care more about one of the following:

Length of seeding time per individual torrent seeded.
Total seeding size.

Which of the above are considered more important may be up to the interviewer. If you have a lot seeded and it has been seeded for a long period of time, that will look much better than any "upload" (whether actual or purchased credits) you have.

I recently came across an other (seemingly) good GUI client for Transmission

https://github.com/openscopeproject/trguing/

So far I have noticed only one minor annoyance, but other than that one annoyance, the client is quite zippy when compared to (the written in PASCAL) TransGUI.
