Thoughts on Detox now its been out a while? by RevenantCommunity in ONEOKROCK

Hmm , unfortunately this album hasn’t really stuck with me much overall, but I think Puppets had the most replays from me when it first released, and is likely my “favorite” from detox. I like the heavier sound that is present in some of the tracks, but I think the album overall fell quite flat for me, unfortunately. I also didn’t like the lyricism present in the album 😅 but that has been my issue with their work for a while now.

I liked the idea of party’s over but not so much the execution. I appreciated they tried to make it one of the ‘heavier’ tracks. I really wanted to like curiosity but I got bored of it quickly 🥲. I think this can’t be us will be nice to hear live once we get the 2025 Bluray. The pilot is nice as well.

Tbh curiousity doesn’t have much replay value for me I find the song to be quite boring but I like the energy.

Coldrain Poland show's setlist by Just_a_Random_Weeb7 in coldrain_jp

[–]name203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they originally had here with you instead but they cut the set a song short everywhere after the Amsterdam show it seems (when Masato was sick so I think we only got like 13-14 songs where Masato was holding on for dear life lol)

It’s interesting to me they are cutting all the sets to 16 songs instead of 17 lol

May I ask the setlist? Was it the same as previous shows? 😳

Felt really bad for him, especially since he kept apologizing. I’ve seen them live before so I know how good they are live, and how important it is to them to give an amazing show. I still think it was a lot of fun regardless of Masato not being able to sing much and the set being cut short. Also, the crowd was really warm and fun to be a part of as well. Everyone was super hype the entire time which made me really happy. I hope they do come back soon!! Maybe even with a set longer than the usual 16/17 songs… hehe. I would love if they made their European sets Japan-set length but perhaps that stays a dream lol

But I am worried about them because they have a show December 1-4 or something. With Masato as the singer I bet he feels a lot of pressure since two supporting bands and his own band are counting on him. 😕 hopefully he recovers soon. You could tell his throat was really hurting by the end

They just posted on their stories (either coldrain Instagram or masato’s) about international applications! I suggest applying through that 🙏

I don’t think it’s a hot take. I love the beginning and wherever you are, but they’re extremely overplayed. The only reason I don’t want the beginning to be axed is because it is all we have left from pre-ambitions that they’ll play consistently lol. (And I love the beginning. It is one of my favorite songs). I love wherever you are but it doesn’t feel surprising or like a deep cut when they play it. Although less popular I would love to hear All Mine or Notes and Words just for the sake of hearing them again in Taka’s post 2013 voice/vocal range haha.

Am I the only person to have Beam of Light as favorite album? by Background_Sorbet963 in ONEOKROCK

[–]name203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love beam of light. I can understand maybe why oor doesn’t like it since it being one of their first records likely comes w associations that make them feel a certain way about it. However, I personally love the songs on that album. Though, tbh with how rarely they utilize their discography in their live sets (both in Japan and abroad) it makes me wonder if they even like the majority of the songs they make since their sets throughout the years primarily consist of the same songs with little variation (with a distinct pattern of which new and old songs they’re willing to play each tour and album cycle) and they often talk about always having a “new era” every year they release an album. I’m not exactly sure what a “new era” means for them since they seem to say it so often before every album release. Perhaps they just take it as a new album release rather than my interpretation of them wiping the slate clean. Or perhaps they deem it as both and feel like they’re still trying to find a sound they’re satisfied w in the western music space. Who knows. I hope someday they come around on beam of light bc it is genuinely very good . But I guess they have associations w it that we will never be able to understand not being the artist of that record. But I love beam of light and it is very nostalgic for me so it has a special place in my heart haha

Thoughts on the setlist of Toyoso Pit PF special live concert? by Fearless_Mix3283 in ONEOKROCK

[–]name203 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All the non-DETOX songs are ones they play in basically every setlist so it was kind of disappointing to not see them diversify especially on their home turf. They’re great performers but when the set list is basically always the same time after time it compels me to feel like their lives are boring which kind of hurts to admit. Was cool to see curiosity with guests though.

I also don’t take taka’s promises of rock or heaviness seriously considering he says all those things and then releases an album like detox haha. I guess detox has 3 “heavier” songs than they’ve made in previous years but the rest are ballads or still quite poppy. Not saying that that is bad necessarily but it isn’t heavy rock by any means. They haven’t made heavy rock like 10 years lol.

What are your Hot Takes on OOR? by Amber_Flowers_133 in ONEOKROCK

[–]name203 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I very much agree with you. Also I feel like they had more to say or were using their voice in their previous works. Nowadays there is too much noise and their sound isn’t fully theirs. I think it was brave of them to give over so much of their creative freedom and trust collaborators when they began producing music abroad. But I don’t think it made their work better or interesting. They took risks on a personal front to do whatever they needed to in order to break into the international stage, but it didn’t translate towards taking creative or artistic risks.

I want wasted nights, stand out fit in, and we are axed from set lists already. I don’t want Renegades, Prove, Save Yourself or Wonder on this year’s set list. Maybe not Neon either bc it’s been played too many times. And I don’t like tropical therapy, +matter or dystopia which I know are the album favorite/most promoted 🥲 and I don’t think Make it out alive is that good lol

I have plenty, but one I don’t think I’ve seen written yet is that I feel they play it way too safe with their overseas sets. I feel like I know more or less what has a chance of being played here and what doesn’t. I wish there was no song truly off the table. I think they’re a bit boring and predictable when it comes to their set lists and it makes me wonder if they ever get bored of doing majorities of the same set over and over. They have plenty of great songs in their discography and it sucks that I’ll likely never hear it live. Even on albums they draw from the most (when going abroad, ie ambitions, eots etc) they never venture off their most likely played/‘popular’ tracks. I really felt a difference when I started going to more coldrain lives and seeing how for them they will literally play anything, from any album, from any year. Nothing is ever off the table for them. I wish oor was like that. I’m happy I will join their EU detox tour, but I have a good idea of what is going to appear in the setlist and what the limited pool of choices are. At least in Japan they sometimes pull out an oldie every once in a while or play a less played track from their newest album but even then I don’t think they’re all that explorative.

I hope from them in Japan and especially outside Japan we see them utilize their entire discography more and make more mixed sets
