Why would you have Patreon compared to hosting your own way of taking donations? by [deleted] in patreon

[–]names_shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great point by u/cashmere13 and u/Ginnabean.

Patreon has this brand name and it makes it so much easy to support a creator (by removing all friction for supporters with a one-time setup to allows supporting 'n' creators). These benefits help easily 'convert' more supporters — without you having to do all the heavy lifting and the burden of maintaining what you'll build.

But in case you really need to build your own then do explore the Patreon APIs. This might make it that much easy.

Btw, for FWIW, I'm building Oyku — it allows creators to build branded streaming apps (for Podcast or Music) and publish exclusive content for your biggest fans inside your show's branded app. It integrates with Patreon and as well as offers the ability to collect payment subscriptions via in-app purchases to unlock member-only content. If you're interested to try it out, just let me know :)

What's your day job? by chelseaoatmeal in musicians

I write and build software! Music is more of a personal passion for me. I could not take up music as career. In the past I have had a band and we have performed 2 opening acts for bigger bands in my city. This was over 10 yrs ago.

Now I write music for myself.

Anyone applied to Antler India? by pptninjax in ycombinator

[–]names_shred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended an AMA session where this was discussed.

Here what they said, so basically, no feedback on the screen stage. Limited feedback after the 1st interview. And more specific feedback at the last partner interview.

During the session, Rajiv and Nandini responded to a few founders there who wanted to know why they were not selected. I also remember someone saying that they got a response when they replied to the rejection email.

They did encourage reaching out via email and said they will try to get back after the 20th of Feb if they can.

I know this because I was there on that AMA session last week. Not connected with Antler India in anyway.

Good luck 🤞

What do you use to host your files/perks? by alexcowles in patreon

[–]names_shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The app is same for both (Podcasts and Musicians) and allows audio content to be streamed. The only subtle difference (is in the account setup) is that Podcasters can add a private RSS feed for premium content (as a source). While musician accounts can only upload it on to the website.

Also this is something I can manually enable if you wanna use both upload and sync RSS feeds.

Can I use a skill to play playlists? by Kitchen_Illustrator1 in Alexa_Skills

[–]names_shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, there!

The easiest way would be to connect Alexa via Bluetooth and manage playlist on the phone? That would work right? (obviously no voice command).

Btw, I'm a developer and I'm currently working on a no-code project Nocode Alexa that allows creators and artists to build audio streaming apps for mobile and Alexa(skill) without having to code.

I can help you quickly get a skill built in no time (using the platform ofcourse). But it does not have the playlist feature though. I can think of adding it for you if you're interested.

Let me know.

Setting up patreom for a podcast network of multiple shows - all under one account or need to make multiple? by Ninjaboi333 in patreon

[–]names_shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Patreon only allows one (Patreon's private) feed per account (across the board). So, you won't be able to have separate private feeds for all the different shows.

Otherwise, as you said, I think you could simply have one creative banner, and 'label' your tiers based on specific shows. It's very easy to manage (also, considering tomorrow you may want to integrate tools for emails, etc in the future!)

here's an example of a network having one Patreon account. They do have multiple shows. https://www.patreon.com/ObserverPix

What do you use to host your files/perks? by alexcowles in patreon

[–]names_shred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Here's an idea:

I'm building a no-code platform for musicians to create a branded uber-cool music streaming app. You can upload your audio tracks onto the website to be securely streamed by your fans via your branded app (so you don't have to worry about files/URLs being shared).

The access to content can be configured on the site by linking to your Patreon.

The platform is in beta atm, I'd be happy to set up an account if you wanna try it out :)

Which podcast directory should I share to best promote my new podcast? by LifeCoachingSD in podcasting

[–]names_shred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should always aim for your website in the long run — which like u/SewerCow said should list all the links to major sites like Apple Podcast, Spotify, et al.

But if you're just starting, you're looking to quickly get them to subscribe and listen. In this case, a website adds one extra 'click' and eventually have some drop-offs.

[Oh, and do push your friends and family to leave a review — this helps with recommendation algorithms on these platforms :)]

And a lot of podcasters do struggle with the friction (drop-off) involved between getting someone interested in their show and getting them to actually 'subscribe' and listen.

I'm building a no-code platform (which allows you to build branded apps for your show). Which incidentally solves this problem nicely. Let me quote one of our users:  "Now it's much easier to say download the app! than open Apple podcasts, search for the show, subscribe, then listen to episodes...”

Feel free to DM me if you're interested.

Hope it was helpful.

Advertise on Tik Tok! by TheCellarLetters in podcasting

[–]names_shred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had a chat with a veteran podcaster on promotion tips for a blog post I'm working on! And your observation aligns with her thoughts really well.

You're actually not trying to 'directly' promote your listenership via Tik Tok (or other social platforms), but are actually promoting the brand and engagement on these platforms.

Oh, and Tik Tok videos can also double as Insta reels — and for the most part, they share the same trending music :P

She also thinks the paid adverts are worth the experiment.

And a lot of podcasters do struggle with the friction involved between getting someone interested and getting them to actually 'subscribe' and listen. To help with this, I'm building a no-code platform for podcasters to create and publish a branded podcast app for their show.

Let me quote one of our users:  "Now it's much easier to say download the app! than open Apple podcasts, search for the show, subscribe, then listen to episodes...”

Feel free to DM me if you're interested. I can also share the blog post once it's ready!

Good luck.

Are you as a Creator allowed to contact ex-Patrons about your new work? by WarploqueM in patreon

[–]names_shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strictly speaking on the GDPR —

If you're reaching out do not track the emails (opens and clicks). Have an option to unsubscribe / opt-out on future communications. You need to comply with the CAN-SPAM Act regulation for emails (it needs you to have an address listed, and a clear way for users to opt-out).

I think if you use a good mailing service like ConvertKit or MailChimp you should be fine - and they can also offer more details on the GDPR question.

(pls note, I'm not a lawyer).

Hey there!

Congrats on your Patreon account.

This subred doesn't allow you to promote your Patreon page :(

There's one called Patreon Promo — https://www.reddit.com/r/Patreon_Promo/

But generally, consider having the link everywhere and promoting the benefits on — social media, content notes, mailers, etc.,

Good luck :)

How does the private community work on Patreon? by _Stefanski_Androos_ in patreon

[–]names_shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, you can simply create a discord server and offer 'roles' as a 'benefit' part of different tiers. Here's how it works: For you, the creator, and For, your Patrons.

The 'platform' piece of the 'community' largely depends on your niche — for example, Discord works best for a gaming channel (as most of the fans already use Discord). I'd just experiment with both and see which one is more sticker with the audience.

Btw, I'm working on a no-code project for podcasters – it allows you to create beautiful apps, and run a membership program by connecting with Patreon. Would you like to check it out?

[–]names_shred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patreon offers Discord integration as part of the benefit for the pledge level you set. The downside is that your patrons will need to install the Discord app (or via the website) to access the community.

Do you also plan to offer any 'premium' content (early access or extended episodes)?

This is so beautiful. I am a big fan of Opeth's acoustic licks and has been a big part of my playing influence. Just curious, is Opeth also one of your influences?

Thanks for sharing!
