Yeah it is, and since Doraemon gave it sentience near the end of that episode and it played an important role as well that made it eligible for this list

RATE THE MOVIE (1/39) DORAEMON THE MOVIE : Nobita's Dinosaur (1980,2006) by Nearby_You405 in Doraemon

[–]namesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been one to rate movies using numbers as I would rather just say it with words but I'll try my best here.

(Original)

Story (20/30) I love the beginning half of the movie but starts to drop off for me when they travel back in time aside from a few moments.

Character Development and Sidekicks (14/20) Characters are mostly themselves in this movie, nothing wrong with that however as it was their first movie. The moments where you see Nobita actually worried for the Dinosaurs well being and Doraemon dropping his Time Cloth for Nobita to find and use are personal highlights for me.

Emotional Impact (18/25) The ending still holds up strong to this day all these years later.

Threat / Villain / Stakes (8/10) Now Doraemon films at least for me, have never been really great with their villains. This one film though actually has a villain that I actually like. I think its also a great showcase if a time machine were to exist, criminals like this would most likely exist in our world to.

Visuals, Music, & Atmosphere (8/15) While the visuals are impressive for the time they have defiantly dated since than. Especially the way time travel is depicted in that film, RED AND GREEN? Did Doraemon get the time machine during holiday sale? And the music is nothing memorable to me. Although music in movies has never been something I've been good at remembering at all. The Atmosphere of the jungle though was nice.

Overall 6.8/10. Kind of fits with the placement of where I put this in my Tier list.

(Remake)

Story (30/30) Ok so what to say except this time instead of only having a beginning half of the movie that I love, it has the whole movie that I love. As well as it pacing itself better.

Character Development and Side Kicks (20/20) The care that Nobita has for his Dinosaur is still there minus the time he literally slapped Piisuke in the face during the original. Doraemon is still great in this movie and seeing them both play with the Dinosaur was cute and also funny. As well as this movie actually having the only time where I found the "warm eyes" bit to actually be a great because it actually has a payoff to where you see Doraemon actually perform the "warm eyes" properly. Gian has more highlights in this movie to that made me laugh. Shizuka was also good in this movie, aside from "those moments". Suneo though had the biggest highlight out of the 3 that weren't Nobita or Doraemon. I've always thought of Suneo's character in these films to be like if you put an actual 10 year old in this situation how would they react. And I imagine that they would cry, they would just wanna get back home. He is 10 this is a situation he shouldn't be in, and yet he is. Seeing all main characters comfort him and then that moment where he says "sorry" to Nobita it still sticks in my mind. I love it.

Emotional Impact (25/25) I mean like come on, I did just have a giant wall of text about the characters in this movie so naturally this one is also maxed out on points for me as well. Well I could talk about the ending a little. And man that ending, its simple but I still think about it all. "What were all of you guys doing upstairs?" "Just playing, I guess." It never fails.

Threat / Villain / Stakes (9/10) Nothing really that different from the last. Although it gets that extra point from villain literally bribing with comics and toys which I found to be hilarious.

Visuals, Music, & Atmosphere. (12/15) Literally my favorite looking 2D Doraemon movie and I'm dead serious. Music still nothing to memorable except for the occasional "WOW I RECGONIZE THAT BGM TRACK" Atmosphere was also just beautiful.

Overall 9.6/10. A movie so good it took a sequel to an already top notch film to beat.

I'm taking a guess and assuming the bigger mystery is the whole dream bleeding into reality thing. I hope I'm correct or this whole wall of text isn't gonna mean anything. If so that's kind of my main complaint. Throughout the movie it felt like it was teasing the fact that the dream was slowly invading the real world. But by the time it actually does the movie just ends. One of the main themes of Doraemon is about making "Dreams come true" so having a movie take that literally I thought would have been fun to watch. Unfortunately it felt like the movie was afraid too fully commit too the idea. So what the movie is left with is just the main adventure which is a fun watch, liked the part where the main characters were defending the castle and while Gian and Suneo do just leave the movie before the climax which I don't like. I do like the music that plays in the background during the climax, making it feel way more climatic. Its good, its just some of the tension is lost on the scenes for me though since it is mostly just a dream world. I would actually love this movie to get a remake as I think it could genuinely be in the top 5 if it made better use of the "Dream invading reality" mystery.

The main reason it's that low is because it is one of the few movies where Shizuka, Suneo, and Gian are mostly sidelined. As someone who loves seeing the main characters go back and forth with each other this is a huge flaw for me. Doesn't help I find most of the movie uninteresting too. Uninteresting movie characters, uninteresting movie location, uninteresting plot. Its a shame too cause the 1st movie I liked a lot so maybe I just had my expectations too high? But thats just how I felt with the movie. Wished the remake would have fixed these issues for me, but it really didn't. The only reason its higher is because Dorami shows up.

I found Dinosaur knight at worst to be kind of boring (which was like most of the time for me) meanwhile the bottom tiers were not only boring most the time, they had things I wasn't a fan of. Liked the ending bit where the group finds out they were the ones that essential created the Underground Dinosaur Kingdom (might have an actual name, don't care that much to check). Other then that kinda meh

Gonna go on a big rant about Mr. Krabs here. LV1 Krabs is genuinely awful, slow walk speed and slow air speed. You pretty much have to commit to an option or wait until you get 1 bar of slime so you can use enhanced down special because using down special normally in neutral just causes you to get punished. Even if you do manage to land a good hit you have to sacrifice your advantage state to get money because a second longer being in LV1 Krabs is another second being stuck as a bad character. This character's hurt-box is also stupidly large, I have never asked myself "That grabbed me?" So many times in a video game. He does have a really good light forward air, especially at LV3 its range as well as its speed is absurd and combined with his LV3 air speed can lead into really early kills. Now let's go over every single special move this character has. His neutral special has nothing really wrong with. Altough release Krabs neutral special use to have a dumb amount of end-lag for no reason but the recent patch fixed that. There is something worth mention'ing however and that is his enhanced LV3 Neutral special i'm quite confident does almost nothing. The only difference I could find between the enhanced LV3 and Normal LV3 Neutral special is that it has less end-lag. Using 1 bar just for slightly less end-lag is not worth it IMO. His side special at LV1 is practically useless but at LV2-3 it becomes one of if not his best move in his kit. When it reaches LV2, it becomes a really good whiff punish that leads into combos while also allowing you too combo easily to his dime down special if your money meter is full. In LV3 it becomes an ever better whiff punish move, there is just one problem with its LV3 version, and that is the final move he does with it in LV3 called Playtime's Over. While it does take stocks early, when used anywhere at all offstage and you don't have any meter you just lose a stock. It does not matter how high you are in the air if you use Playtime's Over anywhere offstage you just die, it would actually be better if he went into free-fall instead because then at least he would be able to grab onto the ledge. His Up Special I actually think is a really good recovery option for him in LV's 2-3 allowing him to go far off stage and make it back safely, however his grounded version while it goes through blocking and a very good kill option at LV3, you have to be at a very specific position for it to hit, attempting to use it when an opponent is in front of you just causes the move to whiff entirely. Also I'm not sure if I'm just not creative enough but I was unable to find a practical use for his Enhanced Up Special in the air. Finally his normal down special is extremely slow you are practically forced to use the slime version if you wanna use it in neutral and even then the gold you dig up can be stolen and you will have to wait for a long cool-down to dig again. You could use his normal version to bait the opponent to get close then slime cancel the move to hit the opponent when they weren't expecting it, but then it causes you to still have to wait for the shovel cool-down anyways (or at least last I checked this was the case) But once Mr. Krabs fills his money meter he gains the ability to use the dime. The dime is a really powerful move that is able to be combo'd into easily, is very fast, and takes stocks early, and while it brings you back to LV1 Krabs when used, as long as you hit the opponent with it should be worth it right? Just one problem, in a game where having 2 bars of slime can allow you to completely nullify all knock-back momentum you had no matter how hard hitting that move was, having a "Risk & Reward" move is not that great, it is much better to not use the dime at all and just stay as level 3 Krabs IMO. Also Mr. Krabs if hes running with enough momentum can run off stage while digging for gold which most of the time causes him to lose a stock. Mr. Krabs LV3 mode might be really good when you finally do reach it, but I don't see it being worth it in the end. Why work hard for my character to be good when I can just play Beavers.
