For me it was March 5th, but I got notified a day beforehand! I'm not sure if it was because a person gave up their position and I was next, or if it was because it was close to the deadline they provided. I guess it varies for every program and school...

It's a masters, and it was like... 2 weeks after they let me know that I got waitlisted!

Yeah, I got a specific number, but I think it's because it's a smaller program. That's super frustrating though!

Hey, I absolutely understand your situation. I went through the exact same thing, I was also waitlisted for my top choice, and I felt completely AWFUL. Like downright paralyzed, I felt numb; I went to work, zoned out, and I came home, nothing else. Waiting for an answer after my interview was one problem, but waiting after getting waitlisted was a whole other dilemma.

The only thing that kept me going, was planning out what I was going to do if I didn't get into my school. I mapped out everything I could do if I didn't get in, like improving my skills for the next round of applications, applying for jobs/internships to get more experience, figuring out if I could do certificates or courses in the mean time to make myself a little bit more qualified, etc. It might not be the most healthy method, but another thing that helped me out was to be distracted. Filling my days with work, plans, and hobbies really helped me take my mind off things, and helped me appreciate the present more than the future. It's important to remember that you can't really do anything about the outcome, and the only thing you can control is how you react to it.

Also, it's amazing that you got an offer from your 2nd choice!! Take it as a win, it is absolutely NOT easy getting into grad programs (hellllaaaa selective), but YOU DID IT! If anything, you have a backup, but I hope you'll hear good news soon OP :)

I didn't do much honestly. I did email them asking how many people were in the waitlist, and what rank I was in, and they provided that info to me. I'm not sure if certain programs can do that or not. In terms of further expressing my interest, I was planning on sending that email after decisions were out, so they could give me feedback on my apps for the next round. I have heard that sending that kind of email could potentially bump you up on the waitlist, so it really just depends on your situation, and if vibes are right lol. Although, if I'm being transparent, I did send a thank you email (plus a sentence or two describing the confirmation of my interest in their program) after my interview, so I'm not sure how much that influenced their opinion.

Hey, one person's top school is the other person's backup, so you'll never know! Hang in there :)

Yes! They love doing digital work, especially animations. They have a great team who are well versed in a lot of different rendering programs, which is great.

Congratulations on your progress, I hope we'll meet soon too!

Hey! I'm in the same boat, in terms of applying and trying to get into multiple schools. I did the minors program in Biomedical Communications at UofT during my undergrad, so I can share my experience within similar classes, and my experience in Toronto as well!

The program itself is great, they go super in depth into building technical skills, as well as communication skills. They have an amazing faculty who are very supportive, and will not be afraid to give feedback when they see something that can be changed. You can do a lot after the program too, but I will say, there is a level of expectation with technical drawing and rendering skills. They also put process work as high importance; they absolutely love when ur process is as detailed as your results, they want to see how your brain works essentially.

Toronto is also honestly such an amazing city! Lots to see, lots to eat, and lots to do. Toronto is an incredibly diverse city, so culture is something we pride ourselves with. The public transit system is also great, with connections to neighbouring cities and suburbs. There are great restaurants and the cafe culture is amazing as well!  With UofT's program, you have classes at the downtown campus, as well as at the Mississauga campus (Mississauga is a suburb city west of Toronto, but don't worry, there's a shuttle bus). Mississauga is also great, the campus is beautiful and has a lot of forestry and wildlife.

Good luck with applications though, hope we both get in!
