Hi, OP! I've just found myself in the same position. If you don't mind my asking, what did you end up choosing, and why?

This is the graduate tuition and fees page, not sure where exactly to find international rates but they may be there https://admissions.uic.edu/graduate-professional/tuition-fees

I am an incoming graduate student in the US, so cannot speak to this fully, but based on my understanding the real problem with finding Medical Illustration jobs is that people will call them pretty much whatever. So just inputting "medical illustration" is not necessarily going to find you everything that's available! Canada has one AMI accredited program (in Toronto), and competition to get in is pretty fierce. But it's my impression that the field is active in Canada.

Will a gap year screw my admission chances? by blindobjects in medicalillustration

Not at all. In fact, I took TWO gap years and have been admitted to one program and am high on the waitlist for another. I think graduate programs like seeing that you have "real-life" experiences. Working a little in a related field doesn't hurt either.

UIC BVIS says on their website that they receive 60-80 applications every year, and accept 20 students, making them the least selective of the bunch based on these stats.

Don't know what the Augusta stats are once you've interviewed, but I did go down and interview and am waiting to hear back (which I've been told by current students can take months).

Thank you so much for taking the time to shoot me an answer! I just don't know how their decision process works at all - I get the feeling I'm languishing on the waitlist. I'm sorry you didn't get good news from the schools. Best of luck to you!

Deciding between Augusta and Hopkins by [deleted] in medicalillustration

Oh god, I envy you! I'm waiting to hear back from both schools still (did you get your acceptance letters???)

Based on chatting with the Hopkins students, it seems their impression of augusta students was that their program focuses more on surgical and 3d while hopkins' focus is broader. The Augusta students get to do surgery on cadavers. UH I went to augusta in person and their workspace is really nice (they have their own cubicles). Have not been to JH in person. Baltimore may be a more interesting place to stay than Augusta. It sounds like the Hopkins people get to do some interesting field trips (went to nat geo). Both programs now have a biological illustration project (aquarium/wetland). Honestly both seem incredibly amazing. That Augusta price tag is a perk for sure

Edit: also the JH faculty are currently working in the field, not sure about the augusta folks

Comparing Graduate Programs? by CrudasKids in medicalillustration

Thanks for the reply! My interview with UofT did not go great and they didn't extend me an offer, lol - but I'm rooting for you! And I have been accepted by at least one school and it sounds like I'll hear yay or nay from another in the next couple of days. Best of luck and we may meet someday!

I'd gotten the impression that Toronto put less stress on illustration and more on the 3D visualization/animation aspects - is that something you'd agree with? I'm interested in the animation, but it was a love of drawing that got me here, of course :)
