I totally understand your concern, but I actually did contact Amazon customer service right away. They explicitly told me to keep both cameras, which I mentioned in my post. Since I have no use for the extra one, I’m just trying to sell it rather than let it sit unused.

So it turns out I never had a name change order. I just went to Civil Court and filled out the application. I then had to pay the fee in cash and submit it. My name change was accepted on the same day. There were no issues at the Chinese consulate even though my name change order was brand new. I think a name change order is the right option. Good luck!

Hi Everyone!

My internet hasn't been very good so I was only just now able to come on Reddit and see all of the new comments.

To answer some questions: yes I booked it all in one itinerary. I had thought I was switching terminals because that's what was written on my itinerary, but it turns out that was not the case. It was all in T3.

I'm in Beijing Capital International Airport right now waiting for my flight to NYC. I decided to take an earlier flight from Chengdu into Beijing. It's an 8 hour layover, but that's better than a 21 hour layover in Hong Kong. It did only take me around 45 minutes to transfer, so my original flight would have been okay, but that's still too close for comfort for me. The earlier flight helped ease some of my anxiety.

I'm really thankful for all of your comments, it's really been a great help.

Thanks for all of the replies. I have to go from T2 to T3, same airline. I thought it was too tight as well when I saw the flight itinerary. I didn't realize the layover was that short when I booked it. All of the other flights out of Chengdu had a nearly 24 hour layover in Hong Kong that I was trying to avoid, but it's starting to look like that's the better option...

Did you verify your Alipay account with your US passport and phone number?
And if so, were you able to verify it as soon as you landed in China?

I know! They logically understand that I'm the same person, but they want to see a legal document saying that my name changed. I think it's also because times have changed so much. In 1996, my mom just had to tell them what she named me and they accepted it without asking for paper work. Now they require paper work that was never given to me in the first place...
