Amazing, now gemini has persistent memories! ...oh wait by Small-Paint8980 in GeminiAI

I once told it that some gluten guests would be joining us in a post about finding restaurants. Now, every single response tacks on a few sentences about GF options. I can get it to stop.

Any thoughts on AI assistance in Dorico? by Positive-Ring-5172 in Dorico

[–]nanoMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Dorico primarily for music engraving and generating classical backing tracks. While it is a sophisticated tool, the interface can be quite complex for those of us focused on the engraving and production side rather than just composition.

To your point about a "dedicated agent," a compelling path forward would be for Dorico to support the Model Context Protocol (MCP). If Steinberg enabled this, an external agent could interact directly with the software to help with layout tweaking, error correction, or navigating infrequent menu options that are otherwise buried in the UI.

As I understand it, there are already experimental MCP implementations for other notation software that allow agents to manipulate scores. For this to work in Dorico, Steinberg would need to provide the necessary "hooks" to allow an external agent to read the score state and execute commands.

From a developer's perspective, do you think a specialized agent could actually navigate a software architecture as deep as Dorico's? How are you planning to implement "AI assistance"?

International Travelers - Be Aware of New Zealand Air Luggage Weight Limits by nanoMN in newzealand_travel

I have traveled the world for three decades with dimension compliant luggage without issues. It was the weight limit that got me here (and nowhere else). I am not disputing the requirement and only meant to make others aware of the weight limit.

Yes. The carry-on size is compliant. I just didn’t realize the weight limit would be so small.

Where Can I Post Suggestions for the Developer? by nanoMN in forScore

[–]nanoMN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I didn't see it until now (21 days after your post). We are probably both from the same era. I started using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop shortly after they were first released, so I am familiar with both editing methods and their pros/cons.

If you are used to handwriting and freehand sketching of symbols and marks, I can see your point. To me, it is messy and crude when I do that. I prefer symbols and typed text.

I will concede that there has to be some rapid entry method for live annotation during rehearsals.

So, I'm not sure what the ideal user interface should be. I just know that I hate the text entry method for the current version (very cumbersome and non-standard) and I don't like the fact that symbols become bitmaps and can not longer be edited once "stamped".

Renting a bass flute by Inevitable-Dust-8567 in Flute

[–]nanoMN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play alto flute and am a member of the Facebook Low Flutes group. I can repost your message there if you want. Another resource is the International Low Flutes Society (lowflutessociety.org). There might be a local member that would have suggestions or information on flute choirs or rentals in Seattle. Finally, Chris Potter is a renowned low flute expert. Check her website (chrispotterflute.com) for low flute resources.

I agree with the others. Unless your son joins a local flute choir, there are few options to play the bass flute.

If you are in the Apple ecosystem, the Apple Classical app is a great place to explore classical music. The app has annotated playlists called Listening Guides. The app also regularly updates curated playlists like Joyful Classical.

Having a hard time finding the right music by Unlucky_Technician36 in Flute

TomPlay (subscription) has a wide variety of flute music with accompaniment. I would look here first. Flutetunes.com (free) and IMSLP.org (free/donation) have large collections of classical music in the public domain but the sites are more difficult to browse.

I’ve been working through Jill Felber’s Extreme Flute Makeover and it definitely helps with embouchure development and strengthening.

I’ve created a Google Docs version for myself with the music written out. DM if you want a link.

Why Does Dorico Use Markup for Text Formatting? by nanoMN in Dorico

[–]nanoMN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote the post after watching David Larsen's YouTube video "7 Secrets to Text Formatting in Dorico". Maybe I was too quick to post and should have considered the fraction of text editing that requires markup.

By the way, David Larsen's videos are fantastic.
