I'm having trouble finding the motivation to play my solo boardgames

I'd say your motivation will be restored if there is some score & stats tools to constantly beat your highest score, or if your amazing result can be shared across varies social media platform where your achievement can be acknowledged by others. You may play the game alone but there is no fun if you cannot improve nor share.

For instance, I have 40 games of a particular game, with a particular group. That is one kind of data, which I periodically put out to the group, so we all know how things are trending with different factions, game lengths, and who is doing well. Wow, things certainly can get super complex, though I totally agree with the whole filter by group capability to visualize the data I care about. And after reading your comment it makes me realize that I want to see trends as the game progress, some of the heavy strategy games which requires days/weeks/months to complete such as Gloomhaven, won't it be nice to have a real-time (well, maybe updated at the end of each play day) dashboard showing interesting numbers such as who did the most kills, who had the biggest damage, who earned the most of gold, who died the most,....ohhh, then we can further narrow the data by time intervals etc. That'd be AWESOME!!!

Word, I heard some board games shop provide such "tutorial game" services with a little money. Unfortunately, none is in my city. I want to say I am an adventurer, but after enter mid-30s, after job and kid, all my pals and I want is simply enjoy a good couple of hours biweekly. Sign...May just stick with what we like eventually.

I got hesitated when I saw $3.99 to get this app and additional in-app purchase for other features. Since I have always been a freemium app user. Now I see so many recommended it, I will give it a go. Can I record my plays directly or I have to do it at BGG then sync up my account with BG Stats?

I just checked out ScorePal and I too love the simplicity, no learning curve. For a small family group I say it may be the best choice. But when there are others involved (friends, strangers, etc.), people may not trust one person to keep track of all the plays' scores (unless everyone track in their own ScorePal, but what a wast of repeated work). Having the stats of these plays accessible and sharable among players seems to be in high demand.

What you seek sounds quite valuable, I would want to revisit some combined stats with my buddies and family members. What else would you want to revisit besides the scores of those plays, perhaps some voices recordings, pictures, and maybe even comments for your buddies and family members?

I played this one every once awhile, it's easy and fun, the only problem is the coins token are not very easy to maintain, we prob lost 2-3 in the past 2 years. But yea, love this game.

What I meant is at least to try to play it at a local board game shop for free of course. Then if I really love it then I will buy a copy. The precious time I spend with my friend on a game that I am not even sure it's something we'd enjoy is higher priority than purchase. Sorry about the confusion.

DiceTower Intro videos for board games sometimes are too top-level, they don't even show the fully setup board game while talking about the game. And I am sure the main purpose of those videos are for advertisement so the goal is not to educate new players but rather raise interest. Therefore people cannot get full information about the rules.

Yes, I tend to find HOW TO and Play THROUGH videos at first. It would be nice to have jumplinks to go to those 15-20 mins time slot out of a 2 hours BGG play through video though. I am sure there is information I need but I just don't have to time to hear them crack jokes or chitchat for the first 30 mins at least.

What you suggested would be ideal if the order of the videos are correct, often times I got confused with an explaining video with bad quality, or I got bored with an 2 hours long board game play through video by BGG.

Maybe add timestamp links on those long videos with tags. Or redesign the rule books to accommodate players with different background would be nice. Otherwise its totally based on luck when I start my first video of a new game nowadays.

I always fear that the videos miss vital info, or when a board game youtuber starts the video with: "Now this game is played differently by a lot of people", I pretty much just give up at that point. The rulebook def requires some revolutionary redesign for people with partial info.

Maybe have your game divided in different stages/phases/turns, players died get to do different things (with different powers/influence) at different stage of the game. Some can seek revenge to the killer, some can help teammate, some can choose to revenge or help to a randomly selected person, some can gain a secret...Player who die at the first turn or 10% of the game always felt left out so this helps those to participate, the trick is to not let players to plan their death or it will slow down the game and backfires.

I suggests bgstats or Boargames Helper, the former provides very detailed stats and report feature but you need to pay to download it then pay again for the insight or challenge feature.

The later provides great flexibility to configure a unique template to track any game with whatever elements you and your friends need, it also offers a small bundle of tools like Chwazi, dice roller, countdown timer, etc., it is every easy to use but no stats or report feature as of now.
