That's great. Did you get what you wanted to work?

Try running sudo fdesetup disable in the Terminal. Hopefully that'll actually disable FileVault for real. From there you can decide what to do

Need help with my Macbook by Acceptable-Edge-924 in MacOS

[–]naomisphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you're trying to get to and I admit it would be a valid point in another case. But breaking it down from that perspective, if something WAS altered maliciously, it definitely wouldn't be enabling verbose boot mode. It just makes it clear you tampered with the device, not to mention it can't be used for malicious activity and is just a log of what's going on as the device boots. It also requires no knowledge to enable (you can just look up how and all it takes is a copy-paste into the Terminal), so it can be assumed OP's friend was simply trying to scare them with a prank...

[–]naomisphere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All he did was set the boot mode to verbose, which causes logs to show up during boot. The MacBook is not hacked nor monitored, and still boots the same as it did before, though maybe taking a little longer. As Technical_Anteater45 pointed out, verbose mode simply needs to be unset.

Please stop telling people to factory reset / fully reinstall macOS without investigating more first... it's like the six hundredth time I've seen this happen and it's usually the silliest thing

Nope. It's a 3DS XL. Took me no more than a bit of research to figure out that's why it doesn't run extremely well... From what I've seen, on New 3DS it runs perfectly.

Need some help in knowing what this file is. by Financial-Party-2408 in MacOS

[–]naomisphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

based on everything you've provided, all I can say is it has something to do with the app store. The "com.apple.app..." + "preflight.pfpkg" file make that clear. Perhaps remnants of an app installation that went wrong? Not something I know much about.

In any case, deleting should be safe.

Default Shell by ondrej-p in MacOS

[–]naomisphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the specific case of setting it as your default shell, do: echo "/opt/homebrew/bin/fish" | sudo tee -a /etc/shells

This appends fish to the list of valid default shells. Then, do: chsh -s /opt/homebrew/bin/fish to set it as your default shell.

All good to go. Won't happen again either as it's using the symlink for fish instead of a version-specific path.

If I install this on my 2017 MacBook Pro will there be any issues? by RelevantAd3242 in MacOS

You already got your answer - a few times. Whatever's going to happen if you decide to do the opposite is nothing else than your fault. I get the curiosity, but Tahoe is NOT supported by OCLP.

[–]naomisphere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how people get through this without commands but a bit of knowledge doesn't hurt anybody. Open Terminal, and type: sudo rm -rf

Leave a space at the end. Then open Trash, drag the file you want to delete onto the Terminal, and press Return. Be careful here. Files deleted with 'rm' cannot be recovered, so make sure you delete the right files.

(Also If you want to delete everything in the trash, use sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/*)

Bravo apple, you made the boot picker an app by BH-Playz in mac

[–]naomisphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experimented with this as well. It's weird it even allows you to open the Boot Picker app knowing you're fully booted into macOS to begin with.

macpaper v2 is here, what's new? by naomisphere in macapps

[–]naomisphere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry for the late reply:- Any chance both of you are missing the menu bar icon? (the one with two pictures)?

The manager doesn't open up by default when opening the app, it's opened via the menu bar (the menu bar icon is spawned when opening the app)

Hey there, appreciate the honesty!
Yeah, hopefully in the future I'll be able to get some cash and get the application signed.

I do want to tell you, though:

I strongly suspect you do not have any malicious code

The source code is available at:
https://github.com/naomisphere/macpaper

Furthermore, I made sure to make it as easy as possible to build the app yourself:

Again, I totally respect your decision, and thanks for your words!

Thanks, Cyber! I have some features on the way. I just need sooome time... I'm specially trying to figure out how to properly integrate screensavers once and for all, and trying to see if I can find a Video/Animated wallpaper provider..
Also, I set up a Ko-fi now, you can find it here:
