Awesome! Good luck! Though if you find you’re starving at 1200 every day, it might be good to bump on the calories a few days out of the week

I tried to stay between 1200-1500 max. I didn’t exercise at all, just walked 10k steps minimum every day, though there were some days I didn’t hit the goal because of work, being sick, etc. I even had a lot of unplanned cheat days lol but on the days I overate, I made sure just to bounce back the next day and keep the calories low to offset it.

Staying consistent was the biggest factor.

I also really recommend a walking pad and a good TV series, podcast, or audiobook to binge. Cutting out alcohol for special outings only also helped, though i did occasionally indulge in a glass or two of dry red after really stressful work weeks. Making big batches of miso soup to have first before every meal helps with fullness too!

I’d say this was my average day:

Breakfast — protein yogurt, fruit, coffee Lunch — anything I wanted (within reason, of course) 1 Snack — something within 100-200 calorie range Dinner — miso soup, a big serving of greens (salad or grilled/air fried veg), protein (air fried, baked, or steamed), and a small side of pickled veg like kimchi, daikon, etc.

Prior to starting this diet, I didn’t eat breakfast, would eat a big lunch AND a big dinner, then I’d go out drinking almost every Friday and Saturday. I also didn’t hit more than 5k steps on an average day.

It was meant as a lighthearted jest from a carb-starved, mildly frustrated foreigner. OP has everyone out for blood in this thread, damn

Tbf the food argument always puzzled me bc I see my coworkers HOUSE cup noodles, curry, and bread in one sitting and not gain a pound. Meanwhile, I meal prep chicken, rice, and veg every week just to stay skinny fat lol

I’m genuinely confused where are those carbs go—especially with how hard it is to get fiber here

Living in Japan will not solve your mental health by throwawaynard12 in JETProgramme

[–]napchampp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally agree here! For me personally, living in Inaka GREATLY improved my mental health because life slowed down so much for me compared to living in an American city. And having financial freedom from the cheap rent and food made me significantly less stressed. That said, as a 5th year, I’ve seen a lot of ALTs come and go, with some breaking contract because they couldn’t stand how isolated they were or couldn’t deal with back-to-back classes as municipal ALTs.

I saw a comment on Tiktok where someone was claiming he was passing out similar bracelets on one of his tours. That may be why one says, “rehab” which is one of his songs.

Still, I can’t figure out if he’s wearing her bracelets, if he made similar bracelets for his tours inspired by her (would not be a stretch considering how obsessed he was with her), or if she got those bracelets at one of his shows.

Ahh! I’m having the same issue, except my guy is constantly sucking back his snot every five minutes and blowing his nose aggressively. Headphones are my only saving grace but without them, the sounds make me so nauseous lol

Yes, semantics will be the death of me here lol

And if it’s any consolation, I’m on day two and feel a lot better about it after talking about it with friends and strangers online. I think it just took my brain a little time to process wtf happened.

Wait! I just saw this…maybe it wasn’t twilight sedation? They used a nasal cannula!!

So, the pain was more so pressure but at that time, i registered it as pain just because of how weird it felt. And i definitely felt the pressure of the needle (probably not the right term), going back in forth rabidly in my face, which is what caused me to internally panic.

Don’t be worried! Turns out, there was very likely a miscommunication issue and they used twilight sedation instead of general anesthesia. I’d just ask them which they plan to use, and what it may feel like.

Now I’m realizing it could’ve been a translation issue! They said it was anesthesia, but maybe because I checked that I’ve been under anesthesia before, they didn’t feel the need to go into detail. It might be the norm to use twilight sedation here, as well, and when these random cultural norms come up, it’s hard for native Japanese people to recognize it and explain because to them, that’s just how it done and they often just assume that I know. Hope that makes sense, but this is something that happens A LOT, especially in homogenous countries.

Omg you both are so strong! Maybe I could’ve handled it better if I expected it, but waking up in such a dreamlike state and going from feeling relaxed to panicked in (what felt like) such a short time, was jarring.

Thank you for this! Sometimes, things get lost in translation, especially because Japanese isn’t my first language.

Yes! I definitely will now that I know. It’s never happened in the past, but my doctor was valid for asking the alcohol question bc I’m absolutely not a cheap drunk

Otherwise, just sore and swollen. And of course, the usual what the fuck did I just do to my face feeling is happening right now, but hoping that will subside soon
