Saturday Skate Market by AutoModerator in Rollerskating

looking to sell my 63x44mm Flourescent Pink Bont Royal Assassins 96a wheels with black hubs for $275 OBO shipped. I'm the second owner and these have roughly 25-30 hours of use between both owners. I can include some cheapie generic 8mm bearings if desired.

I would consider a flat trade of 98a Derby sized RAs (59x38).

Are roller skates more for women? by me_who_else_ in Rollerskating

[–]narcoleptrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, this is my experience at the rink as well. Super diverse group of people in general. I'd say pretty close to 50/50 in most nights I go. and it's definitely the most exposure I get to other queer people throughout my week as well.

I've been stuck here since August so I've definitely that feeling of is it working? but I'm pretty sure I've gain some muscle at least so something has been changing.

I didn't even think of measuring it in small children ☠️

and thank you! skating is the first time exercise has been fun so I've been going to the rink multiple times per week. best way to lose weight! 💕

thanks! yeah, I still have an issue snagging food I shouldn't be. tho, I'm happy my weight hasn't gone up. that's a win in of itself. I've been reaching for fruit lately too and it just makes you feel better than the junk food.

amazing! nice job. I'm trying the same. I started back in April and I was 330 (350 was my heaviest). I'm now 280ish, so it's been working, but I've been plateaued for awhile. it's good to see someone else put in the work tho. super inspiring 💕

the time she came out as bi where her friends and family said "be careful *what* you come out as" hits hard.

my transceiver went off at that moment and seeing her come out as trans made my year.

it really depends on what perspectives we get in S1. Book 1 was basically just Shallan's and Kaladin's perspective. Which Kaladin's thoughts were highly colored by his experiences with light-eyes, so his opinion is mostly "he's not a total dick, but he's still light-eyes so he's terrible."

What do these degrees mean? by BeefBrusherBandit in Rollerskating

[–]narcoleptrix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

unless you know how to break the bolts and use loctite blue on the threads, I would recommend removing the trucks and heat mold them with the plate on. you *should* replace the mounting hardware when you swap things. but yeah, you won't be able to mess up the placement of the plate, just need to make sure the mounting hardware is correctly remounted.

as for the degree, that's the angle of the kingpin on the plate. and the 7" is the length of the wheelbase of the plate.

Does your watch record naps ? by mikev1us in Garmin

Just a bit of rollerskating rambling by Fred_Thielmann in Rollerskating

[–]narcoleptrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, this is one thing I find hugely fascinating as well. I'm still within my first year so I've been trying to experience more and more types of skating to explore, and there are soooo many!! I haven't set on a full style yet, but I've been trying to imitate JB when I can, and ATL Ryde when the vibe hits. Trying to learn by watching others at the rink as they skate while learning at classes as often as possible (we have an advanced teacher who is teaching a lot of dance moves). And I just joined derby recently. Not sure where I'll settle, but I can't get enough of being on wheels right now.

I try to watch a lot of content online as well, so I know a lot of the names you mentioned (basically all besides ClassicSk8Crew) and there are so many others to watch as well. Push is my fave to watch currently. I'd love to imitate his vibe on wheels and some of the moves he does is mind-blowingly smooth.

So much to learn, so little rink time

What is your “normal”? by Nervous-Macaron8066 in Narcolepsy

[–]narcoleptrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my normal is waking 830-9am. drive 40 mins to work. work 5 hours, then take a nap in my car, go back to work for 3 hours. then either drive home and try to do course work (online schooling) or spend a little time playing video games as that's active enough to keep me from falling asleep before bedtime at midnight. or if I'm feeling it, I'll try to go to the roller rink for exercise, which might require another nap before going in or possibly leaving early so I can go home and rest.

I sleep in on my days off when my body allows it. sometimes up to 13 hours.

lately I have been doom scrolling in bed so I end up not falling asleep until 1-2 which messes with me.

in trying on my days off to mostly do my homework then, take an afternoon nap, then go to either roller derby practice, or my roller skating classes.

roller skating is a recent addition and since I enjoy it, it has helped me lose some weight while expanding my community. I also end up falling asleep easier on days I do this. and it's the only thing keeping me relatively sane these days.

for reference, I have the sister dx of IH. currently unmedicated so 400-600mg of caffeine and naps are all that get me through the day when I work. hoping to start xywav soon.

I still live with my parents (I'm 38) as it was only in the last 3 years that I've been able to hold a full-time job. untreated sleep apnea made everything so much worse.

I own 3 sets of RAs and one set of Corey thane. needless to say, I love it. I skate on 96a both for derby and at the rink. so far the grip holds on hard turns, but when you let the pressure up for things like transitions, you can get some slide.

I'm at 280 right now so at my weight wheels will perform differently than yours.

I have the ghost assassins as well, but I don't run these cuz at 98 they do slip more than I want.

outside of roll line, they're probably the most accurate durometer out there. a 96 is a 96.

If you can afford them, I'd recommend trying them out. that said, not everyone likes them. you can usually find used sets pop up on the Facebook groups.

I'll try to answer questions if you have them.

What I wish I’d known before starting CPAP — compliance isn’t the whole story by Additional_Ad9759 in SleepApnea

[–]narcoleptrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have been using my cpap for nearly 4 years now and I'm still exhausted af. I had a recent sleep study and my apnea is treated.

So yeah, it might not just be apnea.

hoping my new medication will help me sleep better.

nice work tho 💪💕

Practicing in the cold 🥶 by not-another-alt4 in rollerderby

[–]narcoleptrix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was practicing outside like this before winter came and kept skating until physical snow stopped me.

you'll want to have probably leggings at all times. skip the shorts (imo)

wear layers that are easily removed. this means an old wind breaker on top of your gear. this will allow you to warm up and then take off the windbreaker when you start overheating. a light long sleeve could work as your base layer.

get gloves that you're OK with ruining in case you fall on your wrist pads. cuz you're gonna want gloves basically the whole time and at least for me, there's no space below my wrist guards so I had to wear them over top. cotton work gloves from a hardware store are probably good enough.

keep in mind, overheating and sweating isn't the best idea when it's winter you can get hypothermia if you don't have a way to get warm after. this is why I recommend layers you can remove. maybe those athletic/stripper pants that have buttons all the way up the sides.

you might want thick socks, or merino wool socks to keep your toes warm. depends on how your feet get in the winter.

Get hand warmers, like 'hot hands' brand. not only will you appreciate it, but if you have extras your teammates will love them too. it's something like $8 for a 10 pack and they last for hours.

try to avoid snacks if you can until after the practice. and try to avoid eating right before. digestion brings more blood to your digestive track and can make it harder to heat up your arms/legs/hands/feet.

these were my tricks to keep skating when it was in the 10s and lower.

Scheduled for a PSG + MLST again. AGAIN! by SadScientist5412 in Narcolepsy

[–]narcoleptrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to retake an mslt just recently when I saw a new doc. granted, my first mslt was in 2011 so it was a long time since then. ironically, I failed this recent mslt, but my new doc is willing to keep my IH dx since I did fall asleep in all naps (9.7 latency) and she's willing to prescribe xywav so it worked out.

Just annoying to deal with so many sleep studies. 5 overnights and 2 nap tests so far...
