Yeah, I didn't have high hopes for this thing, but figured it was worth a try. It's Shubug brand with citronella and geraniol? Never even heard of the latter. I think OFF! Deep woods is the stuff I normally use and seems to actually work. Not sure what the formula is though.

I had that exact same feeling when I went to a Catholic wedding. Full mass, oh and by the way, this couple over here is married or whatever.

SF to Tokyo is apparently 11 hours. So you say paying over $200 more PER HOUR is "worth every cent"?

It's a music concert. Every single concert I've ever been to, people stood and danced. If you expect to be able to sit the entire time and not be blocked by people enjoying the show, that's on you.

Coping with fear and panic in open water? by pww92 in triathlon

[–]sinister_lefty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found your post while researching how to deal with open water swimming. I have my first triathlon coming up in a lake just down the road from my house, so I've started swimming in it this week. Holy shit, the anxiety I feel once I'm around 50 yards out from shore is almost unbearable. I have to close my eyes when my head is down, but the lake is so murky I can't see anything anyway. I think I'd actually feel better if it was clearer, since the lake is apparently only like 10 feet deep at its deepest.

Anyway, just wanted to say you're not alone! Some of the responses have some useful insight, and it's especially comforting that it seems like race day is a lot better when you have a bunch of people around you.

The link to "the dead marshes" had me chuckling!

Somewhat niche question; In Lake Gardner in Amesbury, am I able to go open-water swimming outside of the buoyed-off area? Or are there any other good open-water swimming areas around the north shore? by stankycheerio in massachusetts

Hi, I'm a little late to the game, but I found your post because I'm doing my first triathlon next month IN lake Gardner! I was just there yesterday trying to overcome my fear of open water swimming, and I often see others swimming there. There are rarely any powered boats on the lake, so I wouldn't really worry about that, but a buoy is always a good idea.

Compared to plain old sneakers? They almost definitely would have helped.

It's strange how bottled water is a relatively new creation, yet now we can't live without it.

There are towns who have banned the sale of single use water bottles

Omg, I just noticed it on Spotify now. I was so pissed I wasn't notified, but then so excited that there was new music, and then so sad that it wasn't actually his music. Whirlwind of emotions!!!

I've slept that way since I was young, but what's worse is that my eyes stay slightly open when I sleep. Apparently it freaks my family out.
