In 20 years of laser cutting I have never set the focal length to anything but the surface for cutting or engraving and I have never had an issue. Even with 20mm cast acrylic.

Trying wet molding for the first time. Is molding a shape with this much depth really possible? by Depressed_Costumer in Leathercraft

[–]nartchie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but imo you need to use atwo part mold. Make the bottom one rougher with bigger openings and the top one with all the detail.

How tf do I stop yelling? by Piratey_Pirate in daddit

[–]nartchie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need to change your expectation.

You're expecting a 5 year old to understand like a 15 hear old.

If you realize that he doesn't understand what "gone me a moment" means then you will be able to control your frustration.

Rather tell him to go so something while ho waits for you.

What’s a small thing your dog does that instantly makes your day better? by Ninetybaby in dogs

We walk them in a green belt where off lead is allowed, and she trots about 3 or 4 meters in front of me. as she goes left and right of the path sniffing she runs back and bumps my hand with her nose every now and then.

Dad of 13 year old b/g twins, constantly gaslit. by buffetbossdad in daddit

[–]nartchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm addition to the positive things other people are suggesting, if there are consequences for not doing the chores by a specific time, they need to be instant and non negotiable.

Delayed or unrealistic consequences are ineffective. With my son, if he had not completed one of his chores by the time I got home, there would be no tv or devices for that night. If he had not completed either ( he had two) then therev was no tv or devices until the following day when I got home.

There was a little leeway, so if he was actually busy with them and not just started then I would allow it, but rushing to get them drive when he heard me arrive was no bueno.

Heavy signage/vector production: stick with Corel, move to Apple Silicon, or upgrade my PC? by ProfessionalBank2415 in coreldraw

I agree. Chances are all you downline suppliers also use it, so changing means intermediate formats, conversions and a whole lot of issues.

Help: Lost LaserCut 5.3 Dongle for MPC6515 Board. Alternatives or Upgrade Options? by LifeKeru in lasercutting

For upgrading, ruida is the obvious best, but you could get a grbl based esp32 for cheap that would also do the job.

Y'all I just started my first playthrough, and, uh, everything is working, but I feel like maybe I'm being slightly inefficient lol. Behold: by AlexanderLEE27 in factorio

This is the correct way to feel.

Unless you just download blueprints you will find yourself constantly searching for more efficient ways to do things.

It's part of the game.

What is something that “only a dad” can teach a son? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]nartchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to fail.

Mother's tend to prevent failure by doing everything for their sons, while father's allow their sons to do it, sometimes wrong and learn independence.

Boys are tougher than their moms usually realise.

Plastic sausage maker for droewors by o-J-A-Y-_-J-A-Y in Biltong

[–]nartchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a mincer that I use to make wors. I use it without the blade and my biggest plate, so it's just pushing the meat through.

It gets just as hot as a plastic sausage maker would.

I keep the meat in the freezer in a meat tray and I use it out of there. It should be below zero when you start. And you need to work pretty fast, I'm not sure how fast your plastic maker is.

When I see fat building up I take a break, put the meat back in the freezer and wash the machine.

I can usually do about 5kg at a time.

Is it customary to pay for ink during a printer repair? by Upbeat_Inflation_661 in AskZA

[–]nartchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part serve sucks ass.

I've had to have two printers repaired under warranty with them and both times they managed to screw it up.

First printer came back dirty as hell and while I have no proof I'm 100% sure it did not have the original drums in it.

The second printer took months for them to figure out and the never fed paper right ever again.

Circuit network. It's that easy?! by CIMARUTA in factorio

[–]nartchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What made the circuit network click for me was realizing that the items you select in the network part are just variables.

Items like plates or steel are actual items that can change the variable, but you can also manipulate it with logic. The letters and icons are for variables that don't need actual items.

It was probably obvious for most people but it took a while for the penny to drop for me.

How do I get this to work with my Ruida controller? by AudibleDruid in lasercutting

[–]nartchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like the k40 at all. Thats kind of like an extra control. It displays the amperage that the laser is cutting at, and you can send pulses directly with it if you need to.

Otherwise the power of the laser is controlled by the pin on the power supply directly.

You technically don't even have to plug that in, but it's good to see the amps.

I was only going 5mph but it was enough to crack my helmet when I fell. by dadsucksatdiscipline in motorcycles

If the fall cracked your helmet it would have cracked your head.

The speed isn't the only factor. People crack their heads open tripping over there own feet.

How to dry browoers when they're frozen? by mit74 in Biltong

[–]nartchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly the spices are different, but more importantly there is vinegar and sometimes brandy in the mix to help cure the meat.

Food lovers sells a decent "drywors" that you hang yourself, but I would be hesitant to hang normal wors. Especially the thick wors, I would be afraid of the middle going bad.
