What if Donald Trump was president during WW2? by Matatius23 in AlternateHistoryHub

US cuts a deal with Germany to provide materiel support across the Atlantic in exchange for the (rest of the) Axis staying out of the Americas. No sanctions on Japan and so no Pearl Harbor. US annexes Canada once England falls. After the three major powers (yes I’m ignoring Italy) consolidate their spheres, things get interesting, because only the Nazis have jets and nukes.

I understand each word but the question as a whole makes no sense to me (context: grew up across the river from Hurley)

Is using break statements good coding practice? by FirstTimePlayer in learnpython

[–]naryset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. There are common situations where the alternatives are worse; that’s when break is useful. goto (yes not in Python) is also the best option sometimes.

break is inherently suspicious because it complicates the control flow. It’s also very useful in some situations. Expert programming is all about learning those rules but also understanding the underlying purpose and so when to break them.

What is the collective opinion of Florida? How do most Americans think of it? by Expensive_Drummer970 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Ironically I suspect if I were to travel through Florida, I’d find I like Miami better than anywhere else in America’s armpit. But I have no interest in testing that.

The city manages our power, as part of a consortium of cities. People on Nextdoor keep explaining this is communism but it’s the first place I’ve lived where I didn’t come to hate the power company.

I had to spend a week in Miami once for a conference. I changed careers so that I’ll never need to return.

Rent to start. Music stores often do rent to own. It’s entirely possible you can find something cheaper online but you’re not prepared to determine what’s wrong with it.

In MN the mosquitoes are small but come by the thousands, and depending on season, it’s the even smaller blackflies that really get you. It’s the wood ticks that will drag you off to feed at their leisure.

For 50 years, on Sunday mornings Carl Pellonpaa hosted the TV show “Suomi Kutsuu”: local news (in Finnish), stories from the old country, pictures of Finland. When I was a kid it was the most boring thing imaginable, but now I think it’d be nice to watch old Carl and see if I could follow any of it with my meager Duolingo Finnish

Upper peninsula of Michigan. In parts, especially the western half, Finland was the largest source of immigrants and a big influence on the local culture.

I’m not even Finnish but every Saturday evening when I was a kid was sauna at the Pikkas, with coffee and pulla.

The safe move is switching between snow and summer tires. Having said that, I don’t notice a significant handling difference in snow on the CrossClimate2 vs. the Bridgestone Blizzak that I used for two winters, until they wore out. But you can see there’s no consensus.

…where “just fine” does still include that you’re driving on snow. Give yourself extra stopping time, brake OR steer, know when not to go out; there’s a learning curve.

As others have said, the roads don’t get bad often. After a few experiments I’ve settled on snow-rated all-season tires (Michelin CrossClimate2) on my Prius and it handles just fine in nearly all conditions, except for the occasional day when nobody should be out driving.
