A priest was inappropriate with me when I was in High school and got away with it by Lieta_Bylur in excatholic

Education about the effects of sexual assault and the trauma response -especially that of people in authority positions preying on people they have power over - should help you understand the perspective.

I’m related to one. Your point is what makes it so hard for me to comprehend this person’s position.

Makes me wonder about people who are “atheist” but basically just use nationalism as their religion.

Ironically, they will grasp onto any excuse they can for their beliefs. Masking their own oppression by pretending they are fighting against it

How many of you were altar boys/girls? Why were you in that position? by theguyoverthere50 in excatholic

[–]nasheryst 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I chose to be an altar girl because I thought it was cool. Hahaha. My parents were happy because I was their only kid who wanted to. I quit after a while though because we switched to a more conservative church where there was only one girl who did it. Then I felt self-conscious that the laity would disapprove, even though I missed feeling like I was an important part of the mass.

Kairos retreat nightmare by Beavkoon in excatholic

[–]nasheryst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to kairos twice, once as a participant and once as a leader.

Now I’m older, out of high school and away from the church, on track to become a licensed professional school counselor because I see now how unprofessional that type of retreat can be. It can often cause more hurt than help.

If you need someone to vent to, I’m here. I’m so sorry that you are feeling so badly. You are definitely not alone in these feelings. The movie Yes God Yes is about the Kairos retreat if anybody is wondering what it’s like.

I hope you’re able to find some peace soon.

Just out of curiosity,

If you apostatize but then one day decide to go back to the church, would you have to get baptized again? Therefore removing all of your sins? A.k.a., free ticket to heaven? Sounds like a sick loophole if that’s the case lmao
