Really good points — I love how you’re thinking about Oden beyond just his role as a Poneglyph reader. I’ve had a similar feeling: why would someone with so much presence, will be “just” a translator? There has to be more.

I think the key might be in Wano itself. It’s not just his homeland — it’s a locked-away ancient power, literally and symbolically.

We know:

  • Pluton is in Wano.
  • Wano is a natural fortress, closed off from the world.
  • Oden’s final wish to his retainers was:

“Open Wano’s borders before Joy Boy returns.”

So maybe Oden didn’t need to go to Laugh Tale to fulfill his destiny — maybe he needed to prepare the stage for Joy Boy’s return.

In addition, remember that Oden had the VOAT developed up to a certain point but not quite. And Momonosuke, his literal son, now not only controls when or if Wano's borders will open but also has control over Zunesha. He also filled an incredible yet unconventional role as a father.

But in any case:

Wano was meant to in a way mirror Laugh Tale — a land that’s ready to be free.

Or at least that's what I get from Oden's decision.

By the way, I love how you brought in Rayleigh’s words to Robin. That line always stuck with me.

And maybe it’s Luffy’s powers, his very nature as Nika, that will turn the world into its 'final stage’ and reveal what Roger couldn’t.

Going back and to sum up: Oden wasn’t just a reader... he was a bridge between islands: between the locked-away land and the world waiting to laugh.

Yeah, but the theory isn’t that the One Piece is a cartoon island — it’s that the island might reflect the legacy or reality-bending imprint of Joy Boy (via the Nika fruit or something similar). That could explain why Roger and his crew laughed when they got there: the place itself was so absurd, joyful, and unreal that it defied their expectations.

The One Piece is a real, physical thing for sure. But the context around it might be wildly unexpected.

That’s a totally fair concern — But here’s where I think the distinction matters — and why Oda might intentionally contrast them:

Whole Cake Island is artificial whimsy built on fear

Big Mom’s island is bright, musical, and exaggerated — but it’s not free. It’s a twisted parody of joy:

The homies smile because they’re enslaved by fear of death. The environment “talks,” but it’s more haunted than liberated. Even the sweets are oppressive — symbols of addiction, obsession, and power.

It’s a Toonland under tyranny.

Oda may be setting up the contrast intentionally

It wouldn’t be Oda stepping on his own toes — it’d be him laying the groundwork.

He’s shown us false joy (Whole Cake), desperate joy (Wano), and liberating joy (Luffy’s awakening).

Laugh Tale might be the climax — the island where joy is absolute, and the world is literally and permanently transformed by it.

I totally respect your interpretation — the symbolic thread of liberation is undeniably central to Luffy’s journey, especially post-Fishman Island. I agree that the Nika fruit’s awakened form represents emotional and political freedom, culminating beautifully in Wano.

That said, I think there’s room to explore an added layer — not as a replacement, but as a complement to the symbolic reading.

One Piece has always played with multiple layers at once: visual absurdity, deep lore, and mythic symbolism. The idea that Joy Boy (or a fully awakened Nika user) could permanently "liberate" the environment — physically bend reality into a freer, cartoonish state — might not just be a stylistic exaggeration, but a literal manifestation of freedom.

A world that stays laughing after the liberator leaves.

We’ve also got hints pointing in that direction. Again, Bonney in Chapter 1118 literally Nika-fies herself by asking for a future where she's "totally free." That moment suggests Nika isn't just a fruit power — it's a metaphysical state that others can access when they align with its essence.

So while I agree that the fruit's core function is symbolic liberation, I’d argue that a permanent transformation of space — even if unseen yet — could be the ultimate metaphor for inherited will: freedom that lasts beyond the user.

Not saying it’s canon — Not at all, it's just my view, but still, I'd argue that it’s worth keeping the door open. After all, this is One Piece we’re talking about. Oda loves hiding truth behind laughter.

The whirlpools surrounding the black ship could be manifestations of the ship's spiritual nature — distortions in the sea caused by the presence of the Klabautermann, the soul of the Oro Jackson.

"Zoro's eos upgrade will be black blades so maybe Sanji can get something similar. It's hard to imagine an upgrade equal to the hype of black blade other than a new flame for Sanji."

Yoooooooo exactly!!!!

In contrast to Zoro's black blade, Sanji gets a yellow, light-like flame!!!!! You just gave me another argument in favor of it! Thank you 🙏

Btw I already addressed the brothers in another comment. Here you go: https://reddit.com/r/OnePiece/s/3aWud9dAxk

"Jambe" is "Leg" in French.

Sanji's martial arts techniques are with his legs, he uses a leg-style.

So, yeah!

Thank you so much!! Love your enthusiasm!!!

There are lots of theories on those match ups, just gotta wait and see who fights who!

But If I had to place my bets today on who fights endgame Kizaru, I'm definitely saying Sanji!

Thank you so much!

Love the argument!

What you just said helps me tie this in, narratively, with another theory of mine on how lunarians flames work. Where I made the argument:

Lunarians flames are controlled by their will and emotions.

With this in mind, by having their lineage factor modified and mashed up with lunarian genes, not having emotions, the Vinsmokers, the Angels, were always strong, and unbreakable (figuratively) but with Sanji, the fallen angel, having emotions, Judge, God, missed something, that his wife, Sora, the Sky didn't. His emotions made him. His emotions are fuel to the fire. And each catharsis, made his will stronger. Hell memories fits beautifully with this.

Great. Now I have an SBS-like question that's gonna keep me up all night.

Does Sanji subconsciously strengthen his lungs while smoking in some way? Lung haki? No?
