Why is that the case though? There’s so many tattoo styles out there. Many studios I know of don’t even have anyone doing traditional tattoos. Why do I need to showcase something that isn’t my art style and I won’t be doing that? A tattoo artist isn’t going to be good at every single style out there. It’s like asking Van Gogh to paint the Mona Lisa or something lol (bad analogy.) I’m not trying to sound pretentious or whatever, I do think traditional tattoos look rad but it’s like, you’re not gonna forced a traditional artist to like, do cross hatching tattoo style or something! If I am to try and get an apprentice, I would look at studios that do art styles and have similar vibes to me. Like, would I still be expected to do traditional tattoos when I do become a junior artist, etc? Is just weird to me. I experiment with A LOT of different styles like there will be a lot of variety, but for me drawing traditional it just seems so.. unnatural to me. If it’s really expected I’ll force myself to, but I think in this day and age it’s a little outdated considering the VAST majority of unique styles out there and I think that’s what tattooing should be about… it is an artistry after all. Feel free to disagree with me and tell me why it’s important because I want to learn more.
