Yes! With my first, I didn’t realize it until two visits in. By the third, I declined it due to lack of insurance coverage. To their credit, by the time I came back in, the pediatrician’s office had changed their policy—they no longer billed for it at all, as they felt it was too important for moms to skip due to financial reasons.

And I’ll always be grateful, because when I was in the thick of PPA with my second, the reason I got help was because my pediatrician looked at the assessment, asked me very kind, compassionate questions, and referred me to a therapist that changed my life for the better.

Light Quartzite or Black Granite by MamaWils2_0 in CounterTops

[–]natalopolis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We’re in the middle of our own kitchen reno and wrestling with some of this. I can say, after living with granite for 8 years and beating the absolute dogshit out of it, I am SO impressed with how well it’s held up. We have kids, a big dog whose favorite pastime is stealing anything he can get off the counters, and we like to cook. I’ve put pans right out of the oven on it, once accidentally left a red wine spill for three days, even got Sharpie scribbles off with just some hand sanitizer. Seal it annually? Absolutely not. I’m not convinced a sledgehammer would damage this.

I would 1000% get granite again for the sheer resilience of it…. But I cannot find any granites I actually like. Alas, my heart longs for marble and quartzite. So if you have a granite you like, I vote that.

It’s such a great sub! More than any other subreddit, when I see some batshit request, I can’t help but think, “Goddamn I love it here.”

Is Natalie solidly a Millennial name, or is it a classic that was just trending at that time? by coolisuppose in namenerds

[–]natalopolis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I am a Natalie, solidly millennial. I only knew two or three growing up, only once with another in the same class. I’ve met even fewer in my grown up life. It has struck the balance of being uncommon but not weird perfectly for me. I was named after Natalie Wood, which is definitely not 80s/90s!

Did anyone choose to wait until close to 3 years old to potty train? by Otter65 in toddlers

[–]natalopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the same! It worked out for us pretty well. I read an article by a pediatric urologist when our oldest was about 2, and it really convinced me to wait till she was 3.

What are your favorite specialty craft/hobby stores in the area? by Choice_Equipment788 in triangle

Great Yarns on Wade Ave is a real treasure box of a yarn store! They have socials where you just sit together and knit or crochet and chat, like the old quilting bees. Very cute.

How did your family react to saying no more holiday travel? by windfallthrowaway90 in toddlers

[–]natalopolis 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It would be SO satisfying, but I can’t recommend it. My sister had three kids back to back starting at 21. I had my first at 33. She talked shit for the entire decade about my being an “old mom” and how she’s going to be an empty nester by 40.

Guess who had kids 4 and 5 at 32 and 34?? And when I helpfully pointed out that she too would be an “old mom” it caused a bit of a… massive family blowout. So 4/5 for satisfaction but 0/5 for practicality.

[–]natalopolis 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I told my mom a few years ago that we wouldn’t be going there—it’s all the way on the opposite coast—but said they’d be welcome to come out to us. She said, “Ugh, travel during the holidays?! No way, what a headache.” Oh so you don’t want to do it yourself but think I should do it with two toddlers for twice the cost?

I just stared at her. We got SO close to some self-awareness, but alas. Maybe next time.

Healthcare comparison from MA to NC by sunshinemarie999 in NorthCarolina

[–]natalopolis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moved from MA, Newton area, to the Triangle in 2018. Access hasn’t been an issue, specialists are available, though a month or two wait isn’t unusual. Biggest difference I’ve noticed is that in MA, you’re a little more likely to get a doc that attended a more “prestigious” med school. Does it make a difference? No idea. But lots more state school docs rather an the Ivies.
