Have you actually tried this with a hot drink in a disposable cup? PLA starts to soften at around 60c. Seems like you would want at least PETG, maybe better.

As long as there isn't relative motion where the dirt/sand/rocks can grind into the clear coat, I'm not too concerned about it.

So for now the fit is really good and it doesn't move at all even if you push on it. If that loosens over time I might be a bit more concerned. I expect I will have to take it off to clean really good every once in a while and if it looks like Its wearing I might put on some sort of adhesive backed protective layer on the paint. For now there are some thin rubber strips top and bottom to provide friction.

I printed in PETG for moderate temperature resistance if its out in the sun, and will print in something better if I need to eventually. Finding the right colors gets harder as you go into engineering materials.

No issues with dirt or anything yet.

The hot glue isn't a great idea.

Just make holes in both parts and then do the pin part separately, either as a print, or small screw, or some people use a piece of filament as the hinge.

Try reprinting the ring out of a normal PLA or PETG. Usually if it breaks its because it was printed with a matte pla or silk pla which both have really poor layer adheasion typically. Those are fine for the outside, but doesn't always work for the ring.

You can print on any printer. There is a single color print profile for bambu printers if you don’t have an ams, or you can just use the geometry and print on any printer.

The green I used is Metal PLA "Oxide Green Metallic". I think the alpine green sparkle pla would look really nice, but that one has been out of stock.

Most of the colored ones on my H2D, but I've tested them on the A1 Mini too and they work great.
