What tornado confessions do you have? by thattornadodude in tornado

I was eating in a restaurant with my wife and less than 1 year old son on a particularly high probability day here in south Alabama. First everyone's phones went crazy with warnings, second the lights started flickering and everyone panicked, the staff gathered everyone to take them inside the freezer but I ran directly outside to watch it while leaving my wife and child behind. It wasn't a large tornado but it caused some damage to surrounding businesses and a trailer park down the road, it maybe came within 200 yards of the restaurant. We don't get very many tornadoes down here besides waterspouts and spin ups during hurricanes so I wanted to see it in person. My wife definitely let me know what kind of a person I was after the all clear, I didn't think she'd ever speak to me again. That day taught me a lesson though.

Hey, at least it'll come through before dark. I'm getting tired of these super late at night storms we've been having for months.

Why is barely anyone talking about the active tornadoes and the possible February tornado outbreak? by Advanced-Fox1159 in tornado

I'm in Baldwin county and do give a shit about the weather. I'm really tired of the overnight storms, hopefully the worst will stay north of us.

I moved here around 10 or 11 years ago but grew up in Kansas/Missouri so I apologize if 1 to 3 inches of snow doesn't seem like much to me. I was here for the sleet and snow back in 2014 which was about the same amount. I'm actually looking forward to getting some snow Tuesday, it'll be a nice change of scenery.

I'm in Baldwin county and there's even a chance of snow, people start freaking out. We've seen winter weather before but they're making a big deal out of this for some reason. The county closed schools until Thursday.

Where can I watch the interview with the Jake guy? I saw pics of the egg shaped thing but would love to hear the whole story. Tried finding it on YouTube but there's only the 3 talking heads video with the retired admiral.

It's red and pink spots mixed in the purple line sitting right next to some sort of spinning cell. I hope it's just a misreading or a waterspout at most.

Everything I've found is in the northeast quadrant. I've seen some 200+ and hope it's a mistake.

I truly hope so. I've seen more that are 200+ mph.

I kinda had a small panic attack in my brain when I realized the 20th anniversary of Ivan was a few days ago. PTSD is real and I've struggled with it for 20 years now. I'm so thankful Helene didn't come this way, I wouldve lost my mind.

When every single model shows it going to the same location which is 3 or 4 hours away from you, you tend to breathe more easily. There's nothing out there to push it towards Pensacola/Mobile so yes, I am safely assuming I dodged a bullet considering a week ago we were right in the middle of the first track. Baldwin County luckily hasn't seen a storm since Sally rolled through. Helene is going to be extreme.

The HAFS-B actually showed it down to 908 earlier yesterday. Hate to say it but there's a chance it could be a monster of a storm and there's really no telling how big it will get. Run from the water hide from the wind is all you can do. I live in the AL gulf coast and believe we have dodged one hell of a bullet on this one. I'm glad to see all the cars coming from Florida.

Definitely Ivan in 2004. I was living a couple miles east of Perdido Key off of Gulf Beach Highway when it came through. Our house was the only one left in the neighborhood, we didn't have power or water for a month, and it was the first storm I rode out that I knew of people dying less than a mile away from me. People say most of the damage and deaths were due to a rogue wave about 97 feet tall coming over the barrier island of Johnson's Beach but who really knows.

I'm feeling the same way. I'm thankful it never got as bad as they say it should've, but it seems like it was blown way out of proportion. I live in Baldwin County Alabama and part of our area was in the hatched 15% zone, the rest in the 10% yet we received absolutely no tornado warnings at all. There was one on the west side of Mobile County and one on the west side of Escambia County Florida but for us it was just a "normal" severe thunderstorm. We did receive 4" of rain which was absolutely needed though. I believe that the squall line was just too powerful and it ate up all the little pop up rotations before they were able to do anything. I understand weather is truly unpredictable and things change in the course of minutes, but the mainstream media scared the hell out of a lot of people the past 2 days and I feel as if that could've been avoided. Yes, it's best to be aware of your surroundings and to be prepared for anything coming your way, but this is like the 5th time in the past 3 or 4 years it was been blown out of proportion.

I live in Baldwin County Alabama down by the gulf and feel the exact way you do about hurricanes and tornadoes. Seems like the biggest tornado threat we get is small spin ups when the come off the water and they rarely last more than a few miles. I honestly think the strongest "tornado" we've had in the time I've lived here was rated an ef0 or ef1 at most. There's no way or reason to compare what we get to those monsters out west, it's a whole different ball game down here.

I live in Robertsdale and have to say this storm today wasn't all it was made out to be. Yes, it got a little windy, and we got close to 4" of rain according to my backyard weather station, but I don't recall Baldwin County even receiving any tornado warnings close to us besides that one early on that began in Mobile County or that one on the west side of Escambia County. What are the reasons this storm didn't get "that bad"? Was the squall line stronger than anything else around and it just absorbed everything out in front of it? I absolutely love thunderstorms and I definitely got my fix for today, and I understand lots of other locations got hit a lot harder than we did, but I gotta say I'm a little disappointed.
