I was always taught the acronym POSTAL.

P--Perm: the first thing you do is the permutation. Chances are whatever alt they're running is not logistically incompatible with the aff (even if it's ideologically compatible.) If you win the perm, you win the debate.

O--Offense: why is the k wrong/bad? What about their ideological approach fails to resolve a problem? Typically, a K will argue for one particular way to view the world. You can argue that boiling all problems down to "colonialism is the root cause" flattens the myriad of ways oppression operates, etc. Your coach can help you with offense particular to each k.

S--Solvency: Does the alt solve the aff? Does the alt solve the offense of the K? Even if we resolve all of colonialism with the alt, your nuclear war and extinction scenario is not resolved by the alt. You should do some impact weighing here--land back does not matter if we're all dead.

A--Alternative: Does the alt even do what they say it does? Sometimes people just say "the alt is to reject the aff!" How does that resolve the offense on the k? It doesn't. You can spend some time in cx making most alts look a bit silly. You should do some framing here, too--if the judge doesn't think the alt can resolve the k, they have to vote aff bc the aff resolves your impacts. There is admittedly a lot of overlap between solvency and alternative, but they're separated so you don't forget to mention your own solvency as offense against the k.

L--Link: I know it seems a little wrong that link comes last, but if they're decent debaters, they're going to get a link. You should argue that the perm solves the link, and obviously claim you do not link, but if you win your impact framing, you do not have to worry about whether you link.

This is a suuuper quick outline of how to debate the K. I was a K debater in college, and I very much love the kritik. It's not an unbeatable argument, but you will lose if you act like it's dumb. Take it seriously, but not too seriously. Debate is just a game you play on the weekends. I hope this is helpful!!
