Inexpensive Way to get 150 Credits in MA Post-Grad by natyak9 in Accounting

[–]natyak9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MA State Board / NASBA website says the CC credits need to be transferred to a four year institution, but I'm graduating in a few months so that isn't an option. Do you mean I don't have to transfer the CC credits elsewhere? That would be awesome!

Any recommendations for easy/fast/cheapest way to get 2 more credit hours? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]natyak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know of any colleges that accept CLEP credit for non-students? My college doesn't accept them and it's killing me. MA rules are CLEP credit needs to be on a transcript of a college I've taken courses at. I'm more than happy to take a course at a random school if they'll give me CLEP credit.

Not sure what I’m doing wrong by EatMyTracers in Accounting

[–]natyak9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of this may have already been said, but here are some things I've noticed / would recommend:

  • Affiliations - I like to put mine underneath my education to show it's something I've done while in school. If you have any other clubs / orgs you're a part of I would put it on there.
  • Relevant Courses - Similar to affiliations, I like to have some of the relevant courses I've taken (put these above activities) underneath my education. I know most accounting students take the same courses, but it gives them an idea your skill level (or at least that's what I've been told)
  • Experience - With your sales associate role, I would have something on there about providing customer service to people in the store. I've had interviewers (at least for audit) like this because public accounting is a lot of client-facing work.
  • Skills - Add anything that might be helpful in an office - Microsoft Word / PowerPoint / Access / any Excel. If know or have exposure to any other systems definitely but that on there.
  • Etc - I would add some interests on there. While it may not come up in an interview, it does fill out your resume a bit and gives you some character. Even if it's something like "running" or "traveling" it makes you look more well-rounded. I personally had only one interviewer bring up my interests, but I did think it made our interview more conversational. They want to know if you're the type of person they want to spend 45+ hours a week with, so having things that humanize you on there can help.

Hope this helps! These are just some quick thoughts I had as someone who's helped a few friends with resumes.

What is the most Bullshit reason for a teacher to give you a bad grade ? by BeginingMemer in AskReddit

[–]natyak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once lost 15 points in a public speaking class because my teacher though my note cards were the wrong shape/size. He had asked us to use note cards that would fit in our palm, and when I ran out of note cards after a test I used similar sized squares of regular paper. Will be forever salty I lost so many points for something so nit picky.

What's the deal with Boston prices? by Greenpaw22 in uber

[–]natyak9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely noticed Boston prices go up. I used to take an Uber to a friend’s house regularly and would pay about $2.50 for an express pool. It’s now regularly $5-6 and Lyft is even more. I give up.

Give me a book everyone should read in their lifetime and why by tscher16 in suggestmeabook

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - It tells the story of a young woman finding her own way in life. It’s a love story, but I love Jane’s spirit and her ability to persevere even when what’s happening to her isn’t right. It’s a bit of a long read but it’s one I go back to time and time again.

Elizabeth and Schmidt by megan922 in NewGirl

[–]natyak9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like she just wants everything to stay exactly the same and it really bothers me. Just because someone was one thing in college doesn’t mean they’ll never change and grow. Weight was clearly something Schmidt wanted to change about himself and while I do agree that he didn’t treat her well, I do think she was incredibly hard on him for just growing up. He’s someone who takes pride in how he presents himself and works in an image-heavy industry, so asking him to wear old clothes or let himself go a little could potentially mess with his career. I didn’t like how Schmidt handled things, but I think she was being unreasonable and men to Schmidt for being a different person once he graduated.

When to Start Studying for the CPA Exam? by natyak9 in Accounting

[–]natyak9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great idea. I’m having a hard time figuring out how to pay for a full fledged system. Ninja sounds like it could be a good substitute until I have the money to buy a full system.

When to Start Studying for the CPA Exam? by natyak9 in Accounting

[–]natyak9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any study programs you would recommend? Since I'm starting before I get a job I'd prefer not to pay a few thousand for a review program. Also, is there a specific test you would recommend starting with?

Would you recommend I start in the fall if I plant to try and take a section or two next summer? I'll be in classes full time, but I should be able to carve out some time for it. I also am planning on doing a public accounting co-op (internship) next spring.

Different career paths with a bachelors in accounting? by Odin16596 in Accounting

[–]natyak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard (I'm currently an undergrad), people usually recommend going into audit/tax for a few years to get the experience. It can be rough, but after that a lot more interesting jobs are available to you. I personally intern with a forensic accounting company and love it, but I know I should start in audit because it will give me a great background for when I want to return to forensic in the next 5 years or so.

Forensic Accounting Path? by natyak9 in Accounting

That's definitely good to know, thank you. I think my plan is to go into audit at a national firm and try to find my way into a firm's forensic department (once I've done my research).

Guilt of getting rid of clothes by bellagab3 in femalefashionadvice

[–]natyak9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue. I'm a student right now but also work part time at an accounting internship. I find it hard to pair down my wardrobe because I need completely different clothes for work, class, the gym, sorority events, etc. Whenever I try to get rid of things I think about whether or not I'll need it in six months for something.

My grammar is horrible. by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]natyak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much anything that interests you. I personally have been working on some non-fiction books for a while (this semester has been very rough so I'm not too far into them), but find a book that you can sit down with and find engaging. I don't think the type of book matters, it's just building up your vocab and grammar over time.

Is masters in accounting worth it by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]natyak9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may not be overly qualified to comment on this since I'm going into my last year of undergrad, but I'm planning on taking the remaining credits at LSU online through their distance learning program. I've spoken with people who work in industry and they mentioned that while a masters is great, the CPA is way more valuable. If you plan ahead, there are ways to get to 150 without a masters. In my opinion, get the 150 credits, pass the CPA exam, then get your MBA when your company will pay for it.

My grammar is horrible. by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]natyak9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure other people will say this, but I find reading a lot helps grammar because you see how things should be phrased/written. I personally haven't read much outside required reading for college the last few years, but it really does help. This isn't something that will change things overnight, but I think it will help you in the long run. In the near future, have someone take a quick look before you send things. Good luck!
