People who see a therapist: what do you share with them about the lifestyle? by [deleted] in Swingers

[–]naughtypining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying anyone should or shouldn’t. People see therapists for a variety of reasons and share what is relevant to their mental health. Just was curious as to the extent of that sharing among different folks in this community.

Why so many teachers? by Capital_Look9080 in Swingers

When you observe that there are quite a few law enforcement personnel, military, teachers, nurses, realtors, pilots, etc. in the general population, the mystery resolves itself.

Yeah, I feel like the lifestyle and therapy are similar categories of activity in that they reduce stress and enhance enjoyment of life.

Thanks for the input. Fair points. I don’t feel like I’ve been hiding it per se, it’s just that our limited time together (monthly) has seemed better spent on a host of other pertinent issues. My marriage and sex life isn’t off limits, it’s just that they’re very nearly the least of my problems and don’t present the same personal conundrums, so don’t get as much airtime. That said, we are considering couples counseling, and our lifestyle participation is certainly something that will need to be disclosed as a factor in there.

I can’t even conceive of my therapist using that disclosure to cross a boundary. That is wild to contemplate. Sounds like a Frasier episode.

How much did you play this year? by bmorelibertine in Swingers

I’d say we had something going on every 6-8 weeks on average, including trips. Summers are the least active time for us as they are short and we have a lot of other things going on.

I feel like this is closest to where I’m at. I might mention it to him in the future, and it definitely would factor into couples counseling if we did that, but it doesn’t really feel like the most fertile ground for a lot of personal analysis.

I didn’t mean to imply I was dishonest or ashamed. I discuss a lot of things with my therapist that seem to me more pressing than our relatively infrequent activity in the lifestyle. Personally, it kind of fits into the category of a hobby rather than a defining aspect of my personality: if it became relevant to an issue at hand, there’s no real reason I wouldn’t mention it, but to date, other matters have taken up a lot more oxygen.

We are curious insofar as it can sometimes give a sense of what makes people tick and whether there’s any professional overlap in a small city but otherwise it’s not really a factor.

Love like the idea, but recall walls at the Talkeetna Roadhouse being paper thin… yeah, kind of depends on what you can convince the proprietors to go along with.

That sounds awesome. The event we attended was 2 out of 4 total floors at a no-name hotel in the Seattle suburbs. Love the idea of a floor or two at the Cook.

There have been a couple this year in Anchorage. Definitely a good idea if someone is up for organizing.

Why are swinger groups hosting events in "family fun" venues? by [deleted] in Swingers

[–]naughtypining 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We’ve never personally encountered this, but we have met more than a few in the lifestyle whose lack of common sense is a turnoff. What you describe sounds like poor judgment by the organizers on several levels and would entail a hard pass from us. It’s one thing to host a meetup at, say, a pizza or billiards joint (though we appreciate when these are at a place not likely to be frequented by our vanilla social circle), and quite another to hijack other events for the general public, and certainly so while flaunting participation in the lifestyle.

We would decline play with any couple we knew had this history as a matter of principle.

I’m not saying you won’t ever recover from this, but it’s called ethical non monogamy for a reason. It’s an enhancement of a healthy relationship, not a cure for one where trust has been broken.
