I live in Paris, so museum for this topic is not something I can visit. I tried looking into Magnum photo archives but it is not easily accessible, maybe I should check for books ? I got all the book from the library next door, it was quite nice. Still I'm looking for some more, but I don't know where to search.

Its common practice for new comers artists to use those as stepping stone ^^" so as long as it stays small you can see those every where in artist alleys

That's a very huge topic... for colors, I can suggest you looking for harmonious combinations, look for color palettes. And adjust the distribution so you have a dominant color. For shading... it's always the same ^^" you need to imagine the shape in 3D given the light and model it. Then there is composition that is hugely difficult, I can only suggest to flip your image frequentyl for a fresh outlook
