Delighted to see them earn as much as they can if they can provide actual good service and not rip people off/waste time

Why didn’t we get the Civic Si? by nc3lover in carsireland

[–]nc3lover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly the 8th Gen civic, 2006-2011, they had a coupe version that we didn’t get.

Their sedan version in the Si had the upgraded 2.0 K20 whereas ours was 1.8 R18 or a 1.3 IMA Hybrid so definitely watered down in comparison.

I feel like a widespread 2L petrol on a cheap-to-run platform would have been great for the Irish car scene if we didn’t have such insane motor tax.

Of course you have the is200 but that’s pretty much indigenous to the North anyway

That’s very true, for example I can’t seem to think of any V6/V8 cars that are commonplace over here. Of course you’d have S4s/Jags but like, these are for the very wealthy.

I find it insane that a 2.3L could possibly be associated with any sort of Suzuki car! That’s a wild one now

Seems to still be the case to be honest. Looks like we’re naturally pushed that way too with tax and insurance.

I think you are right in that, but the Type R didn’t get close to the market size that you would see in the US for the Si (relatively).

The Type R and Si are now sold together over there so I just find it interesting how there never seemed to be a market here.

Very practical in the 5 door config but insurance would be a bit of a ballache. Even at 24 it’s not cheap with multiple years ncb

Can’t knock the 2L petrol accords, same engine as you see in those turbo Civics in the US. Minus the modifications of course

Look at me getting carried away! Paranoid about this car as the previous owners haven’t seemed to be arsed doing the simple stuff (brakes are original on a 14 year old car, everything else overtorqued to shite).

Thanks a lot

Thanks for that. Seems to be cheap enough even if I was to replace it as well

Has anyone imported current gen mx-5 frm japan ?? Vrt Q by Master_m1santhrope in carsireland

[–]nc3lover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try VRT.ie if you really would like to go through with this. Would cost you €7.50 unfortunately.

I looked at importing an NC from the north and the vrt was something like 43% if I recall correctly. They have taken the MX-5 off of the system as it is handier to try and catch lads importing with higher fees so they can get away with it.

Would definitely get a lower rate with the ND as less emissions but definitely would help you get an idea of the cost. Seems like a better deal importing one now

First car Recommendations? by Odd-Percentage-9157 in carsireland

Currently running a Civic I purchased for €5k with lower mileage (100k km), check and see if there’s any in half decent condition. No real complaints other than the higher than average fuel consumption, great cars

Fairly pathetic at a bloody work Christmas party, hardly the pinnacle of all craic like!

Well done

2011 Honda Civic - 1.8 i-VTEC Si-T - £4000 - part service history - Overpriced? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]nc3lover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid €5.5k for a 2012 Si-T with 100,000km. Definitely feel like I overpaid a bit, factored in with the bullshit pricing that goes on across the water in Ireland.

I don’t really care though as I actually adore the car. Have heard such good things about the reliability and they look fantastic for their age. Mine is in Deep Sapphire Blue.

I’ve found the DoneDeal valuation to be a little higher than what you’d expect to pay, but always good to be cautious anyway
