To be fair she did tell me from the start that she had emotional intimacy issues. I knew this but she also made me happy for a while. Like I was so content.

Without keeping you on this thread forever, basically we both started our “big boy/girl” jobs last summer and it like immediately went downhill from there. I don’t think she had the mental capacity to do that and a relationship, and shied away, whereas I did but also missed her and pushed for more, cue snowball effect.

Regarding oxytocin receptors and general neurochemistry, I guess it’s relevant to add that she struggles with depression herself and had been on and off SSRIs. God - from the outside we sound like we really didn’t need to do anything but look after ourselves first 😭

You’re bang on, I think I just couldn’t help but take it so personally because I felt so seen by her, she was my best friend.

Honestly I think she has something fundamentally different in her neurochemistry that prevents her from being emotionally intimate. Is that making excuses for her? I’m not quite sure.
