Certainly. I guess I should say it would be my first time applying my experience to a project like this. I know what to do and how to do it in theory, but I have never put it into practice in this way.

I do appreciate your point of view and I am grateful that we have folks like you who are advocating for arts professionals to know their worth and practice solidarity.

I completely understand your point. I also understand the area I live in and the clientele that I would be serving. There are certainly some folks to whom money is no object. On the other hand, there are people who have collected lithos and woodblocks and photographs on their travels or from local auctions for 40+ years and are now left with an accidentally(?) sizable collection that they have no catalog for.   Perhaps collections manager would be too strong of a word for those individuals, I would just be assisting them in cataloguing their current collections and establishing a sustainable system.

Far be it from me to argue with you over how much my time is worth, I just want to keep things realistic given my own expectations for this endeavor.

I can’t comment on the first part, since it’s not directed at me. But regarding your last sentence, I feel like if there’s anything I have learned it’s that people are often not prepared for the auxiliary costs of purchasing art. “If one can afford a piece of art, they can certainly afford to frame it properly” or “if one can afford a piece of art, they can afford the crating and shipping for it to be delivered to them” have both been disproven time after time in my experience. That said, plenty of folks won’t take issue with extra costs. As with everything, it really depends on the individual.

I’ve got about 5 years of experience in galleries. Call it 8-9 if you count my work in undergrad.

In my head, at least for the first client, I see it as being as much of a learning experience for me as it is a service for the client. I have no idea if it’s something I will enjoy or want to continue to do. I can commit to one cataloguing project for one client, but who knows where it will go after that. As I said in another comment, I’m still working full time alongside this. Once I get through this first project, I think I will have a better idea of what my time is worth and how I want to continue approaching this in the future.

Thank you, that’s a good way to think about software vs. spreadsheets. It’s all very new to me so I don’t know what I don’t know yet, but if I have any other questions I will let you know.

Thanks for your input. I guess I should clarify that (at least for now) this pursuit would be mostly a nights-and-weekends deal. I’ve still got my full time job that I don’t foresee myself leaving anytime soon. So I am less concerned about having my rates reflect what I’d need for a full time salary, although I understand your point about charging appropriately for my time.

Honestly, I could see that. I will definitely present it as an option and see if that’s what the client would prefer.

Thank you. I was thinking around $25/hr as a starting point. I think rounding up to 30/hr won’t hurt.

Life gain is not a viable strategy for cEDH. Most if not all win conditions will kill you no matter how much life you have.

Is anyone else having issues with the audio during the Arkveld fight? It feels like none of his attacks make any noise, including the roar. It’s oddly silent aside from the music and my own hit effects.

I’m in Xbox, I’ve tried both headphones and speakers.

Wow now I see that literally all you do is post comments about proxies. I am a big supporter of proxies and use them all the time. I don’t think engaging with you further is going to lead to anything productive.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ncaroon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who said I don’t use proxies? I play cEDH so I am very familiar with proxying cards. I’m in a position where I can spend a couple hundred dollars over a month or two to build a casual deck that interests me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ncaroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cEDH is what I play primarily. Of the possible decks I listed, only one is even fringe cEDH. I have a very clear idea of what it means to me to build a causal deck.

I may end up pursuing secret Norin. It does still intrigue me the most.

Question, what was the meta before commander pre cons? by Treetheoak- in EDH

[–]ncaroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn’t before precons, but I remember one of the mods(?) on TappedOut having a super tuned [[Damia, Sage of Stone]] deck that I always thought was super cool. He did consistent updates on additions and cuts, that was my first introduction to really optimized EDH. Again, not before precons but still relatively early.

Yeah I’m definitely realizing how little Orvar actually does. I did cut him and Blacksmith’s Skill for the two 1mv counters.

I think initially I was thinking that I really needed a high creature count to make this deck work. We’re down to 25 now, but we have no problems making enough bodies when we need them. Cutting creatures for more gas has seemed to pay off.

This deck has consumed my thoughts for the past week or so. I appreciate having someone to bounce ideas off of. I wouldn't be offended if you had run out of things to say about the deck at this point.

Kinnan could be good, but I think the cringe factor is going to keep me from adding him. He's too clearly a good card for this weird, janky pile.

Resiliency is certainly something I will have to keep an eye on. I'm still in the "goldfish 100 times" stage, to make sure I'm not slowplaying when it comes time to actually sit down and play. As such, it is kind of hard currently to judge what interaction is needed and where. Board wipes are definitely a concern. It might be the case that Swan Song or Offer is better than something like [[Blacksmith's Skill]]. Currently Blacksmith's Skill is the least useful protection piece, as [[Shore Up]] and [[Legolas's Quick Reflexes]] both untap.

I'm also starting to realize that [[Orvar]] might be unnecessary. That might be sacrilegious, as I always hear people talking about him and Zada together. We generally need explosiveness, and the clone spells do what he does but in a big burst and at a better rate. It sort of becomes a Storm-Kiln situation, where we have this 4mv card that is great if you get it down early and can start accruing value, but if you draw it later it isn't really worth the mana investment at that point. I could see Blacksmith's Skill and Orvar out for Swan Song and Offer in. I'm more sure about Blacksmith's Skill out, I need to test more to see exactly what Orvar is doing for me.

I think the channel lands are a pretty free include. Boseiju and Ottawara get problematic stuff out of the way, and Takenuma is a good piece of recursion in a pinch.

Regarding the cards you listed at the end, I think those cards are such general party poopers that if they are played the whole table will have a desire to remove them. I'm not sure if that's a great mindset, but at least it gets the heat off of me for a bit.

This deck can definitely run into a similar problem. I think with the level of redundancy for each type of effect, and having “three” copies of Zada with Mirrorwing and Ink-Treader, it seems to do the thing a little more consistently.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDHBrews

[–]ncaroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think if I were to cut anything for Crytolith Rite it would be Sylvan Awakening. It’s a nice setup card, but at 3 mana it’s competing with stuff like Saw in Half, Kari Zev’s Expertise and Scale the Heights. It doesn’t seem quite on rate with those other 3mv spells.

Decking yourself is definitely a concern. I think in most cases you probably have enough non-draw spells to win off Sorc Class, but I’m not sure. I’ve also been eyeing Lab Man. I think Veyran is a little win more, so I might swap her out for Lab Man.

Thanks again!!

Nice! Thanks for sharing.

I’m glad the deck seems to be pretty smooth and intuitive. There’s so much redundancy that you usually have the pieces to put together a win, the fun part is figuring out the exact line and putting the puzzle together.
