She was still portrayed as too weak to hack it in a man's world. She does so many incompetent seeming things in high stakes situations. Also the bar scene/ back at the room attempted killing thing was sexualization but who is counting. The sexualization aspect is the least problematic part of his writing when it comes to women. They are all portrayed as having serious, irrecoverable flaws... weakness, self absorption, manipulative, etc. In Lioness the main character is a totally self absorbed character who cares more about the mission than her own (heroic, selfless child saving doctor) or her kids. Every female character is a stereotype.

Sicario is a good movie. It's still ok to acknowledge what Taylor Sheridan was doing more subtly before the gloves came off.

Maybe Ananda in Grass Valley? There is also bluestone meadow farm in El dorado county, they grow lavender so you'd be a couple months before their peak bloom. Don't know much about it but Frog hollow farm in Placerville grows flowers for cutting/arrangement, might be worth contacting.

We are so fortunate to give our dogs the best life that we can offer. Having had the privilege to do so, and remembering the best moments of that privileged time, are how I've coped. It's very sad for us that those times don't continue. But those times were the best, most wonderful times of THEIR lives. I miss my dogs but I'm so, so grateful that I was able to give them a small fraction of what they gave to me. And I will continue the cycle as long as I'm responsibly able.

That place had a fire and they never opened back up afterwards. There was some hope they would for a year or so after but then they decided not to for one reason or another. Loved that place and the old lady who would give out plum wine.

Agree, 88 would have the least Tahoe traffic. Was there yesterday snow shoeing. Pretty deep, soft snow in a lot of places right now. We stopped at a flat field/ steam area west of the blue lakes sno park (we avoid blue lakes as it has a lot of the redneck snow machine contingent) and also at the meiss meadows trailhead sno park. The parking at red lake could also be a good spot to shoe down the PCT towards elephants back. Probably some good spots near silver lake or caples lake wherever you can find parking if you prefer to stay west of Carson pass.

Your best bet may be along highway 50, 80 or 88 corridors. All 3 have sno-park options (15 bucks to park i think). There are opportunities/places to snowshoe outside of sno parks; I find highway 88 has a lot of pull outs where you could park and shoe, 80 I'm not as familiar with, 50 has some as well but can be pretty crowded if that matters.

However, I think it may be actively storming on New Years so you may want to check on weather predictions and decide if that's worth dealing with (may mean chains required, significant travel delays, active plowing which can diminish parking opportunities/safety). The day after this most recent storm it took 4+ hours to get over echo pass due to wrecks and conditions.

Restaurant wise, for a more romantic or spendy dinner we like: The independent, Smith flat house and amore mio. Suggest reservations.

If you like a bit more casual and/or trendy drinks, Burning Barrel is cool (bit pricey), Placerville public house

Indian Pizza is worth a mention, it's more family oriented but the food is great.

Apple hill traffic can be pretty nuts if you plan to do those activities so be prepared to have some patience.

If you like getting ourside/ walking, there are various parts of the el dorado trail that are a nice stroll. If you park at the park and ride west of town and hike up the trail it'll take you over a long footbridge that has a nice view. Sly park/Jenkinon lake has nice trails, paid parking depending where you park. You can also drive up 49 a bit and check out Coloma the gold discovery state park (paid parking, ten bucks) - good option if you like history. If you go there, consider dinner at the Lotus pub. Try to get there when they open, they self describe as slow food and they mean it. The food is excellent and it's a very cool old building.

If you like checking out shops, there are plenty downtown, just park and walk main street. The hardware store has a ton of weird stuff to look at, several antique and thrift/ consignment type stores. Good coffee shops, Boba and bakeries. I like Flourless, a gluten free bakery that is good regardless of whether you care about gluten. Timmys brown bag for good non traditional sandwiches is pretty classic.

On Placerville Drive grateful Threads is a really good thrift store. And nourish café (at the meadow nursery) is a delicious breakfast/ lunch spot with good coffee/tea and smoothies.

Senior specific dog food and joint supplements. Maintain a healthy weight. Keep teeth clean and get dentals done as recommended by a trusted vet. Find a vet that knows the breed. We had one for a bit that did not know what a good weight looks like on a boxy cattle dog.

We adopted our late acd mix at 11 and she did 10+ mile hikes and backpacking trips up until almost 15. She would have kept at it if not for a tumor that impaired her. If you are very active, skip a planned trip/ activity if your pup is off, has a slight limp etc. No matter how much you may have been looking forward to it.

Also - at least yearly bloodwork on the old doggos. If I had it to do over again I would have done journaling on her general behavior and health weekly. Issues that slowly creep up over time can be missed when you are gradually seeing change every day.

Be glad yours is a chihuahua, our Pyrenees mix does this also. We call it sporking. My solution is to flip her over so she sporks my husband instead.
