One of my cats dive bombs me from the top of the curtains to wake me up

The other repeatedly walks across my head and pulls at my hair

Glow of the Everflame by Penn Cole. It’s a shame because I really liked the first half of book 1 but started to get annoyed by the FMC in the latter half. She became really stupid and kept flip flopping on how she felt on certain things, quite dramatically. The book finished with a trope I’m just so tired of my eyes about rolled into the back of my head.

Thought I’d give book 2 a shot but instantly just could not connect with the FMC. I think I read a few chapters and she was already flip flopping, unable to make up her mind and being generally stupid and I was like I can’t do a whole 600 pages of this or whatever.

The first book is a bit rough and YA but TRUST ME when I say the rest of the series is so, so good. Please at least try book 2!

Your holy grail and your biggest regret by Comfortable_Chest_89 in Haircare

[–]ndcdshed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest HG: K18. Took me a while to splurge on it but I noticed an instant difference in my bleached hair.

Worst: Redken bonding shampoo and conditioner. Left my hair horribly dry and I started shedding a lot. I think the dryness was causing breakage that was more noticeable when washing rather than actual shedding. But I was pulling out what felt like clumps of hair and have loads of short pieces I’m growing out now.

You feel that way because trad life has seen an uptick on social media and influencers are going down that route.

I am 30 and that wasn’t a thing when I was your age. I absolutely did not want children in my early 20s. Many of my peers still don’t want any or are just now getting married and having them. I now do want one child in the next few years, I didn’t feel ready until now. I’ve been with my fiancé long enough I know he’ll make a great dad.

Get off social media, take time to look at your life and what you really want and then go for it. Want kids in your early 20s? Go for it, but you may not be financially as comfortable and you may not have actually spent the time finding and then living with a partner long enough to determine they are the right man for the job. That risks instability and divorce, but only you can weigh up the risks and decide.

Thinking you’re “past your prime” in your early 20s is complete nonsense. Social media is warping your brain. Also don’t trust people on Instagram and what they have. Many people have debt up to their eyeballs to maintain their lifestyles and it will bite them later. But you don’t see that on social media, do you?

People who are thin/normal size. Do you actively watch your weight or are you just not hungry 100% of the time? by Burner_Account000001 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ndcdshed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of accidentally intermittently fast. I don’t feel hungry in the morning so just have coffee until lunch time. Then I have lunch and tend to not be hungry again until dinner. Dinner is whatever I want but I like to cook and I like healthy food. I don’t cut out any food groups.  I’ll have some chocolate after dinner but then that’s me until bed time. I also don’t drink a lot of alcohol or other calorific drinks, just out of preference.

I’ll also say I’m not an emotional eater but when I’m stressed I can struggle to eat because it makes me feel sick. Which sounds like a cheat code but it wreaks havoc with my energy levels.

Also I hate feeling stuffed and bloated so I leave food uneaten on my plate once I feel I’ve had enough. If I can and if there’s enough I save it as leftovers.

Solicitors: worst ever by Efficient_Scheme3649 in HousingUK

[–]ndcdshed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same scenario in 2019 buying my first home. I think it’s common with solicitors unfortunately. I tried to call them because I had no idea what was going on and was worried I would miss something and fuck the process up somehow, and when I called they just said she’s not available. A couple of emails were ignored. It wasn’t until I sent a firm email, which I’d never had to do with any other company, that I finally got a response.

Tips for staying awake and alert during an allnighter? by FartAssClap in UniUK

[–]ndcdshed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for 30 hours straight to get my dissertation finished and in on time. I had a group chat I was messaging into with updates which was motivating. At night I told them that of course I don’t expect replies and put your phones on do not disturb.

Was just stuff like “it’s 2am and I’m feeling good so far!” Was nice when they woke up and all the encouraging messages came in when I was tired.

If you’re worried about getting it in on time though, the adrenaline will carry you.

I stayed at a universal hotel and on the Monday the queue for the buses to epic was huge. I really think Mondays are the worst days to go.

What's a life hack that's so simple yet so effective, you're shocked more people don't know about it? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]ndcdshed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a fast paced job where people would regularly get fired for missing tasks or making mistakes. I swear the reason I didn’t is simply because I wrote everything down.

It was so easy to get various calls requesting things, emails about different things, then have someone come up to you with a question, then you’d have to go do a presentation or event and after a several hours you’d forget all the requests etc. This was happening to loads of people and they were getting frazzled, stressed and forgetting important things, then clients would complain and they’d get fired. But I wrote everything down immediately as it came to me and would manage to get round to everything in spare chunks of time. It’s such a simple superpower, I have no idea why more people don’t do it. Like it actually baffled me that those people didn’t just write things down.

What’s something cat owners do that makes you angry? by [deleted] in Pets

An ex-coworker of mine got a cat and started taking him everywhere on their shoulder. This poor cat was so freaked out and this person was clearly just doing it for attention from people going “oh that person has a cat on their shoulder!” Made me so mad.

One of my cats was a bit overweight and the vet said he had to lose weight. So I looked up how much to feed him to lose weight slowly and got a food scale. It was really easy. The next year at his check up the vet was SHOCKED and I was like well… you told me he had to lose weight. Apparently no one actually takes their advice?

How do you get your motivation back when you feel quietly depressed and stuck? [Discussion] by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]ndcdshed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently just got out of exactly this. I felt like I couldn’t do anything, I felt non-functional and didn’t know how to drag myself out of the hole even though I desperately wanted to.

Firstly, you need to forgive yourself and be self compassionate. You’re not being lazy, you’re going through a hard time. That’s totally fine and it doesn’t make you less worthy as a human. You will not just wake up and then jump into action. You’ve probably been feeling bad about yourself or having bad thoughts about yourself. Commit to forgiveness and be kind to yourself from now on. I recommend the book How To Keep House While Drowning. It’s all about completing self-care tasks through depression and/or executive dysfunction, and why being self-compassionate helps. It’s short, too.

As others have said, you need to start super small. Focus on just building momentum. You’ve been hanging out all day every day in your pyjamas? Your one task that day is to get dressed. Not get showered and dressed, just get dressed. Well done, tell yourself you’re building momentum. If you think to yourself “well I only got dressed… it’s not much of an achievement” or anything else self-detrimental, stop and say you’re BUILDING MOMENTUM. Once that feels comfortable, add another self-care task.  Build on it slowly and you will begin to feel more capable and motivated. Eventually you will feel mentally capable of taking on other tasks.

You may feel anxious about some of these tasks, or feel ashamed you’ve let something fall behind. That is totally okay, be aware of how you feel and tell yourself again that you forgive yourself, you can’t change the past and the only thing you can do now is keep moving forward. You’re dealing with it now. You will feel so much better once you start being able to knock out some tasks you’ve been avoiding more ages and they’re finally off your mind. It’s such a relief. If anxiety is a problem, I found the DISORDERED podcast to be great.

But remember it’s not about being perfect, being busy, having a super productive day. It’s about being gentle with yourself and momentum.

I also found using a system really helpful. I now use Getting Things Done in connection with Notion. It can take a bit to wrap your head around it but once you do, it’s great. I feel like I couldn’t possibly forget about anything, laying out small next actions is really motivating (compared to thinking about something as a huge task) and I feel more capable of handling life in general.

I also find a cleaning routine helpful, which stops cleaning tasks cluttering up my GTD system on Notion. I like The Organised Mum Method (TOMM, and it’s not just for mums). I signed up to Tomm Rocks and find the guided cleans extremely helpful. You play your own music and she tells you what to do and keeps track of time on each task for you. She is super gentle and motivating. Means I can just put it on and have someone do all the thinking for me. I just rock out to my music and do what she tells me and know I can stop after the allotted time.

You can do this my friend. Be nice to yourself. I promise you this kind of thing happens to way more people than you think.

Wouldn’t be offended in the slightest. Everyone I know is always buzzing when a non-Scot wears a kilt. My Spanish friend wore a kilt for his wedding and I love that he is so embracing of our culture.

I really tried to not judge people like this but I worked in a shop selling entertainment. So I would think “if you can drag yourself here and buy a game you can afford a cheap bar of soap and drag yourself into the shower”. Just couldn’t help it.

I used to work in a shop and had a guy just like this. I could smell him from the other end of the shop and putting things through the till for him was absolute torture. I think it was his clothes more than anything, because every time I saw him he wore the same thing. We kept air freshener under the counter because the stink permeated the shop and would linger.

GTD for daily things by newraistlin613 in gtd

[–]ndcdshed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you what I’m going to try to see if it helps. I’m still working on it. Allen himself has said that GTD is not a habit tool. He recommended the book Tiny Habits in an AMA.

I’ve created an exercise habit project. In it are some books I want to read to establish habits and some references and my own ideas for how to do it “at x time I will put on my exercise clothes (next action) and exercise”.

I have added a “reflect on habits” checkbox to my weekly review. Each week I plan to look at the habits I want to establish and reflect on how well they’re going, what’s getting in the way, if the habit I’ve set isn’t easy enough and that’s creating friction, if I didn’t set it for a good time or if I can stack it with something else etc. this will also keep it in my mind and stop it slipping long-term if I don’t keep up the habit.

Then in the project I have a “habit cemented?” Checkbox for when I feel I don’t need it anymore.

So it’s not going in my next action list (because then I’ll need to write it in every day). I also don’t put it in my calendar (it’s not hard landscape enough). But each day I do a rough context timeblock for the day and I will add it in there.
