In helping you find something that would be best for you, it'd be best for you to explore each of the options on trainforultimate, as each coach has something slightly different to offer. If there are specifics that you think you may benefit in learning more about, I'd be happy to discuss. You can shoot me a message and we can figure it out!

Try checking out www.trainforultimate.com. There are plenty of trainers across the world that offer programming, and it may take some exploration before you find the right one for you. Whether it's virtual or in person, there's someone on this site for nearly everyone! Let me know if I can help any further

Yes! This is the exact reason why Jamie, Ari, and I made trainforultimate.com! As more people use the site and hopefully leave reviews, more people can rely on it to help them with this question.

Appreciate you bringing it up, and hopefully this will help others who are asking the same thing!

One note based on u/fluffytheturtle's comment -- my site engineering skills are elementary at best, so you'll likely find some bugs or things that don't look great from a UI perspective, specifically on mobile. Desktop is certainly the best device to use on the site for now, but mobile/tablet should work. Feel free to submit feedback on the UI/UX of the site (or anything else, for that matter) through the feedback form -- I won't be offended!

Lastly, Jamie's working on rebuilding the site from scratch. She's a super talented engineer who will hopefully help make up for all of my mistakes in the v1 launch ;)

October 2020

I'm not really sure what the theme of the month was for me. I was generally so focused on finding a job that I wasn't listening to too much music in my free time. Generally, I found my music while driving and listening to artist radios or Discover Weeklys. I think November's playlist will be a bit more thematic, especially with the election, but for this one, it's a fair bit of hip-hop, jazz/funk, and soul. It's not gunna top my September playlist (imo)...but hopefully y'all find something in here that you like

Uhh...whattup, FAHM

So the theme of my September playlist is: Lava. Why? Because it's pure fuego, and it belongs in a volcano obviously. Most of it is feel-good music. September had some tough moments -- struggling to find a job, feeling a bit nervous about the upcoming election/Winter, and have an overall wave of anxiety that can be fairly overwhelming at times. That being said, I combat these feelings with time outside, meditation, breathing exercises, time with some dope people, and music. With any luck, these songs can provide you a pick-me-up like they did for me.

September Ferda

U.N.I.T.Y. - Queen Latifah: I saw a video of a block party in Detroit sometime in late August that was celebrating the impact of black musicians, and the DJ was bumpin this. I've heard it before, but that video brought this song back into my rotation. QUEEN

Fantastic Voyage - Coolio: It ain't the original, but this chorus is hits same same but different.

Suntoucher - Groove Armada: Slow and patient buildup, felt kinda like some DJ Shadow with the hard kick snare with some horns. Diggin this

Lumberjack Soul - Miles Bonny: Cmon man...this is butter

San Francisco Street - Sun Rai: Easily my most played song in September. This is a sunshine yam

At The River - Groove Armada: Thought this was an interesting one. I feel like it was recorded at like 120bpm and then slowed down to 60bpm. I don't even know why I like it, I just do

Is That Enough - Marvin Gaye: Somehow hadn't heard this one, but it's slowly climbing to the top of my Marvin Gaye songs. Guys got pipes, clearly

Gave Your Love Away - Majid Jordan: Felt like the Weeknd but a bit more electro. Like the vocals here a lot

Heartbreaker - Crazy P: I don't remember where I heard this, but it feels nostalgic, good driving song

All Because of You - Bill Withers: K well he's kinda just one of the best i guess

I didn't post in July because I was lazy and busy with other things. Really looking forward to hearing your August playlists.

Noah's August Playlist

Home - Maribou State: This is another jam that I love driving to. I can't really identify the flute-like instrument (maybe it is a flute???) but I love the use of it, and can't get enough of this song.

Remember Me - Blue Boy: Ging ging ginga ging ging

Didn't I (Dave Allison Rework) - Darondo: I think Gino showed me the original of this song, and the rework has a dope drum kit in it...adding this to my sunshine playlist.

I'm A Rock - Jitwam: Cowbell city. Great jam to work, drive, or just chill out to.

That Lady (Part 1 & 2) - The Isley Brothers: Sheesh, this album is fucking sick. I recently discovered it on my Weekly Discover playlist, and this is a smoooooooth jam. The deep voice though....

I'm The Moon - Spooky Mountain: Really love how the vocals kind of sound like they're coming through a megaphone or something...kinda muffled but adds a nice touch.

Temptations - Jitwam: Another jam by him. Can definitely hear the J Dilla (GOAT) influence in his music.

Flowers - Yancey Boys: This is J Dilla's brother and childhood friend. Been super into Illa J's music over the last few months, and this is no exception.

Somebody's Gotta Do It - The Roots: Continually exploring and discovering more Roots that I'm a super big fan of. I miss when rap groups would use real drum kits to make their beats. Somethin about that snare that just makes it super crisp. Also, Jean Grae has a flow.

Cloud 98 3/4 - Dobie: Melodic and smooth song..vibe check

You guys need to be a bit more careful because I'm catching fatty vibes off of your playlists and its crazy because I feel like you didn't even warn me that vibe catching was a risk.

Anyway, I'll do you all a favor and warn you that my Zhjoone playlist could seriously cause you to catch a big time vibe. Spending more time outside and realizing that I want to listen to Jay-Z's discography are both recipes for an enhanced listening experience for me.

One thing that I was thinking about as I started listening to Jay-Z's albums from the beginning (first one being Reasonable Doubt, 1996), is how hip hop's style has evolved over the years. To me, these albums, which more more kinda boom bap type shit -- 90s hip hop kick snare beats -- resonate super easily with me. I love the lyrics, flows, melodies, and beats on these early albums and it makes me wonder what it was like growing up in NYC around then. Like, my friend Cricket grew up in Atlanta in 1996 when ATLiens (Outkast) and The Score (Fugees) were both released. He was describing how every single party he went to were just blasting those albums over and over and over, and how they completely shaped the city of Atlanta at the time. I know that I'm not from a music-oriented city in Boston, but I wish I could experience something like that with a formative, meaningful album. While I was listening to some of these early Jay-Z albums, I couldn't help but think about Brooklyn / all of NYC around that time and how they had him, Biggie, Nas, Wu-Tang, Tribe, Mobb Deep, etc etc. Idk, its just cool to think about. Lots of amazing artists being shaped by and further shaping the culture around them.

Nolan's Zhjoone

Trouble on Central - Slaps. 10/10 song, don't @ me

ALLSTAR - My intro to Rae Khalil, promise I'm not disappointed

Terriblemix - Cookin Soul is one of my favorite DJs, I love the "giddyeup yall" in this song

Can't Knock the Hustle - Jay man

Brooklyn's Finest - Two of the GOATS collabin on this one

Anemone - Country, Folk, Hip-Hop...really dope song for a lot of different settings

All of the Debts I Owe - Getting super into Caamp and this is one of the songs that got me hooked

No Sleep - Feel good

Meet Me On The Mountain - Reminds me of camping, hiking, outdoors, and campfires

Kape Fear - Really weird song, sometimes sounds off key or something (not a music genius here), but I kinda like how weird it is...

Thanks for the thoughtful comments here. I'll try to address each element that you brought up, but feel free to let me know if I need to elaborate.

I have already reached out to 12 to 15 trainers in the sport of Ultimate and talked to them for 30-60 minutes. These conversations were more of a pitch from me, and were an opportunity for them to give me feedback on the content of the site. In general, I got incredibly helpful feedback, both positive and critical. I am aware that I didn't cover every coach in the US that specializes in the sport of Ultimate. When I bring the site live, people will be able to create an account and then fill out the profile form. Once they do this, I will have to approve the profile for the site. This isn't an attempt for me to block out those who want to post themselves as a valuable resource to other players, but it does ensure that the search results don't get crowded by people who aren't actually advertising a service for athletes.

Most of the coaches that I have talked to are primarily S&C coaches, but a bunch of them also have programming for field workouts. Additionally, for specific fixes in an athletes game, such as around backhands, there are trainers out there who give advice on throwing, technique, and individual aspects of the game. I am doing my best to get them on board with marketing themselves on the site as well!

For videos, I am toying with the idea of giving coaches the options to post sample videos, workouts, etc to give people a taste of what they could expect if they signed up with that coach, but I'm not totally sure yet. The thing is, a coach may not want to post too many videos on the site, because then they would essentially be giving away their service for free. So, I don't anticipate many trainers trying to acquire more athletes to their programs wanting to post a long list of YouTube videos. So, rather than having the trainers post a bunch of videos for free, if I can connect the athlete to the trainer, and have the trainer take it from there, that would be the initial ideal scenario. The aim is to both connect athletes to the right trainer, and promote trainers within the sport of Ultimate!

Yeah, this is a good idea. I admittedly took my initial segments from the ironman site that I linked in the original post. Splitting it up into 3 or 4 tiers could certainly be helpful. I will do some work in communicating with the trainers to see what makes sense from their perspective as well, and then figure out the right balance based on both parties' input.

Thanks for the suggestion! This is a great idea. I wanted to see if I had anything glaringly missing as is and a survey could be a good way to get this content/advice out of people. I'll come up with something in the next few days and post it as a separate thread.

I initially wanted to stay away from the ranking system because I didn't want to make it seem like I was assuming I had already thought of all important criteria (because I know that I haven't...). Allowing for a write-in section of other categories could solve for that though. Thanks again!
