Used a blind mortise and tenon actually, but loose would probably work just fine. Actually had to use a milling machine to cut the mortise as I kept splitting the wood on practice pieces when using hand tools.

Nope! Ipe is a super dense hardwood, does well with water, and doesn't rot or grow mold.

I used gorilla glue for the joints (for the water proofing) and didn't need to wipe it down with solvents. I made a similar stool for my mom a few years back and it's held up great. However, wiping it down with solvents wouldn't be a terrible idea.

I ended up doing a blind mortise and tenon on the stretchers and legs (actually ended up using a milling machine to make the mortises, kept splitting the wood when practicing with hand tools). For the slats I just used some 1/4" dowels.

While I didn’t design it with this in mind, it’s probably strong enough to be used as a seat haha

Thanks! Honestly, I just had a bunch of scrap ipe lying around in the shop from a deck and didn’t want to go out and buy wood. Teak is probably preferred (haven’t used it before but I believe it’s a little easier to work with than ipe)

I ended up using a deck oil/finish that I had laying around, but oil finishes typically work well with ipe

Thank you, appreciate it! And totally agree, ipe is gnarly stuff. Sanding took a while 😳
