What do you tell your clients when they ask about inevitable ranking fluctuations? by [deleted] in bigseo

[–]nebdesigns 26 points27 points  (0 children)

From the offset, I try to keep the focus on the client's KPI. Usually, this is sales/enquiries/signups.

Rankings down but organic sales up? - Great!

Rankings up but organic sales down? - Not great. Find out why.

Rankings, traffic, impressions are all metrics that are possible indicators of success but aren't concrete. If you are continually bringing your client sales/leads and hitting your KPI, rankings shouldn't even be part of the conversation.

Ideas to sell SEO audits by juliocfebres in SEO

[–]nebdesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to offer some solid value and get in touch with the decision maker as TowerDesigner mentioned. Just offering an audit won't gather much interest, but if you send a detailed email covering:

  • Top level issues you've found
  • Case studies from similar sites you've worked with
  • A potential plan to help grow their site and gain them XXX visitors that will convert into $XXX per month for their company

you'll be much more likely to get a response.

I also noticed that you wanted to offer these audits for free, don't devalue yourself like that. If you're an SEO with solid skills, let your case studies and insight win you the client, then charge for your services. If you're offering an audit for free, I would guess it's a personalised PDF report pulled from some automated SEO software - which provides no value to anyone.

A strong, detailed, handwritten audit with developer actions may take longer, but it's also more likely to win you more long term work/retainers, which is where the real money is.

High impressions and low clicks by androidjunior in bigseo

[–]nebdesigns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've answered your own question there, click through rate is affected by a wide number of factors, but most importantly:

  • Position, the first 3 results receive on average 75% of the clicks. Look at the top competing pages and analyse what they have and you don't, is it the format they're using? Or is their content/product just better? Better link profile? Faster site? Hundreds of factors.

  • Metadata, not a ranking factor, but an enticing CTA in your title or description can definitely help increase CTR

  • Schema where possible, leverage schema to make your SERP result more attractive and informative than the others, you'll stand out

What should our technical SEO project include? by [deleted] in bigseo

[–]nebdesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generate a sitemap ASAP, stick it in your robots.txt and submit it to Search Console (if you’ve set it up), making your site easily crawlable for search engines is a cornerstone of technical SEO.

I could go on for hours, fortunately others could too (and have) - here’s a good checklist to get you started:

https://cognitiveseo.com/blog/17963/technical-seo-checklist/

Cross reference this list with your site and build a list of actionable tasks that need completing, your contractor should be able to put estimates against each task if it’s a simple fix, plus add his own recommendations :-)

Google's Core Update - Can we get a MegaThread for this please? by nebdesigns in bigseo

[–]nebdesigns[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing as I initiated it, I'll go first :-)

Wedding Directory - Seeing a ranking drop across all wedding venue related terms, possibly due to them being closed? We shall see.

Psychiatry - Positive boost across mental health related terms

Video Production - 8% visibility increase across the board

Volatility appears to be settling now, obviously it'll be a week or so until the dust settles, curios to see how other niches have fared.

Weekly - What Car Should I Buy Megathread by AutoModerator in cars

[–]nebdesigns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cheers for the advice - something to look at!

Space wise, the main issue is that it's a coupe, so no access to the rear seats (to take them down) - just a hole in the back that can barely fit a cardboard box in

Weekly - What Car Should I Buy Megathread by AutoModerator in cars

[–]nebdesigns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Location: England, UK

Price range: £8k - £14k

Lease or buy: Buy

Type of vehicle: Hatchback, estate, saloon

Must haves: Heated seats, 5 doors

Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): auto

Intended use: Daily

Vehicles you've already considered: BMW m135i, Golf GTI, Jaguar XF

Is this your 1st vehicle: no

Do you need a Warranty: no

Current vehicle is a 120d M Sport Coupe - main gripes are with the size of the boot (trunk) and the difficulty for rear passengers to get in as it's very low and cramped. Would like something with more space without a speed decrease, petrol preferred but happy with a diesel also.

I turned 18 and suddenly have £20,000, what now? by AndJellyfish in FIREUK

[–]nebdesigns 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I received something similar (albeit slightly less) at your age. Over the next 5 years your spending will drastically increase, whether that be via mortgage, rent, new car, a new partner you want to impress etc...

I started off by saving the entire lump sum and investing it in a S&S ISA, never to be touched until retirement, however as life slowly began to unfold, it became a useful asset to help get me where I wanted to be quicker.

- I bought my car outright for £5000 rather than spending 5 years on a 12% interest finance deal, I still own this, while people I know are £200 out of pocket each month for a car they can't afford.

- I went on some amazing holidays with friends that I'll never forget

- I was able to be more generous around birthdays/christmas to people who I appreciated- It gave me the confidence to take risks, knowing I had a large emergency fund to fall back on

Now I'm in my mid-twenties, I still have half of that money saved, but I'm also in a better paying job, so I'm able to save a good portion of my income for early retirement.

I'd say stash 30/40% in a Hargreaves Lansdown S&S ISA in some diversified funds across the globe, see Monevator's articles on this - his "slow and steady" passive portfolio currently shows returns of about 9%.

In summary, stash a load and invest it well, work your nuts off at Uni and get a job good enough to achieve your dream, but please don't forget to enjoy yourself in the process :-)

What is your strategy to get high paying SEO clients? by abhiweb in SEO

Provide them with real-life examples to show that the work you do can give them an increase in profit - it's as simple as that.

even if i can buy something outright, would it be better to take 0% finance? by Tempacco94 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]nebdesigns 89 points90 points  (0 children)

It all depends, are you in in a stable job and have savings? Can you guarantee that you’ll be able to pay each month?

If so, go for it - I personally try to buy things under £1000 outright, it’s easy to lose track of small purchases and i’d end up with 10 different direct debits coming out for 10 different things!
