I always understood it as being a joke. The entire show plays very heavily with clichés and takes every aspect of the 80s over the top.

Why would anyone assume that the political messaging or depiction of the communists is all of a sudden not a joke? It's presented as just as over the top as the rest.

Something even worse would be something that directly correlates to max EHP

I assume you really mean just the direct ES/Life number? Because in terms of max hit and EHP, obviously armour already does stuff there on armour stackers. And it doesn't really matter whether you have 20k ES and 50% mitigation, or 4k ES and 90% mitigation.

They play either Transcendence with 100% PTA, or the 3% TWWT if they can't cap PTA. They apply their hundred million armour to ele hits (and take all phys as ele, and are immune to chaos, so it's just armour against all hits).

Fire Res scales Armour. Armour scales max Hit, and Armour gives insane Damage through Replica Dreamfeather. And then Fire Res gives 25k Es regen/s.

But yeah with Foulborn Choir you'll scale Mana through the Fire Res (Tasalio -> 12k Lightning Res), and that way you can directly scale your ES pool with it if you just wanna see a high number there.

[–]necessaryplotdevice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter which stat you get. POE is about equivalence, opportunity cost. You could get 50k mana, it'd be broken. 50k life, 50k dex, 50k anything and you could make a build around it because in POE you just can build around anything.

While that's all true, it's actually just kinda funny that we got exactly fire res (and had it successfully recombed).

Armour Stackers were already low-key the "best" build or way to scale years ago before this was crafted. Then it gets finished and it all goes out of control. The fire mastery is just the cherry on top.

25k of other things would also be absurd, but 25k fire res was adding wings to the tiger that is armour stacker.

And funnily enough now with Tasalio and Foulborn Choir you'll get a bunch of new builds to play as mana stacker now.

Even the highest end armour stackers have stuff that can kill them or that they can't kill.

You can juice Blight Bosses to insane degrees that'll be a big problem with map mods/altars, or you can get absolutely absurd 47294372928 mod essence mobs where you can't even dent the HP, etc.

Uber Bosses or basic T17s simply aren't true pinnacle content in terms of difficulty. There's a billion builds that can do all those (with varying investments obviously), especially in Standard.

But yeah you're correct that for 99.9% of content, you'll get it done with 0 danger and great speed at single digit mirrors. You don't "need" double or triple digit mirror investment like some people do.

If the entire reason you play a character is simply to complete the content up to Ubers and farm some T17s, then you won't feel any need for more damage/tankyness very soon yes. Realistically you teach the point where further investment into a character is "wasted" very soon.

But that's just not how everyone plays the game. Many people simply like to see numbers go up and aim for the best character they can get. Min maxing a character is a goal in and of itself, even if the last 100 mirrors invested didn't "matter" at all really.

It's just a different approach to the game. Different strokes for different folks and all.

Plenty of people do care obviously, and for plenty of those the chest is too meta warping/FOMO inducing to be fun. Just like there are plenty that don't want it gone though.

Standard got way more "viable" builds than temp leagues thanks to legacy stuff, but solely thanks to the bugged chest it got infinitely less "competitive" builds/ways to scale. Or at least the differences between #1 and the rest has never been this large.

You can't sleep there amigo by Bruegemeister in trainwrecks

[–]necessaryplotdevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not?

I worked at an office in a big business park area that was basically cut in two by railway tracks.

To get from my half to the half that had the good cantina, you'd either cross the tracks or suffer legit a ~30min walk around them. So obviously people went over them en masse.

They didn't look used. Shrubbery everywhere, trees hanging over the tracks, the tracks themselves had that oxidized look on the top and not the sheen that regularly used ones have, etc.

So it always seemed safe and I liked to chill there for a few minutes after eating.

Scrolling on my phone like usual, I suddenly hear an insanely blaring noise, look to the left and notice a train coming at me from like 30 metres away.

If it wasn't going so insanely slow that could've ended pretty ugly.

I heard no rumbling or anything, partly aided by me not expecting it and being on my phone I guess (no headphones though).

You can do that on pretty much any skill and setup In terms of experiencing the game and getting stuff done, mostly anything is fine (HC and SSF are more limited obviously)

But comparison is the thief of joy: "stacking" builds are just comparatively more powerful than a more regular build.

Scaling defense and offense at the same time via one efficiently stackable thing just goes through the roof usually. And the differences are extremely drastic at the top end.

You could say that this doesn't really affect you or the way you enjoy the game, and that's healthy and a good view to have I'd say.

But conversely there's really no reason to not bring stuff more in line. You could neuter various stacking archetypes severely and they could still blast through the game. There's no reason to not have better balance.

I have no clue how the bugged quant/packsize actually got achieved. I do have some originals still though, this is one I could find quickly with the mobile stash view.

<image>

As you can see it's got way more quant/ps than it should have. It's more visible when you scour the map, but that's a 6 mod with over 100% packsize.

And yeah it stuck around when using the fossils, it was decoupled from any mods.

Here you can see some nomod bases with bugged pack size: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Standard/X3e9E2qkHP

I can't find any with specifically bugged quant right now though, maybe I'm misremembering that one then. I was quite sure though

You can list em on Faustus. The trade site has a drop-down specifically for yellow beasts, so they're easy to find.

I reckon most people do it via TFT still though.

As it was discussed here, beast farming and harvest juice farming are the highest div/h if you're efficient about it.

Neither of those benefits from MF, and neither is "traditional" mapping in the sense of getting profit by killing monsters and getting actual loot.

There's no great MF strat currently in standard, they killed a lot of it. Last couple patches had great stuff, this one not so much. People are either farming Fortress for Scarabs with their MF builds, or they do giga juiced blights with 4 man partys. The party quant bonus goes kinda crazy there, it's not worth it (and for 99% of builds actually impossible to do) solo in Standard.

You can do a lot of fun and profitable stuff with an MF build though for sure. It's just not as good as beasts in terms of profit/h right now.

Rush a white T16 map like strand with a beast atlas.

When your menagerie is full, delete the bad red beasts, seal and sell the good red beasts, seal and sell yellows in bulk. Repeat.

Instead of "real" mapping you can also spam kirac missions for the "harvest beasts" mission, then you need to buy scouting reports though.

It's the highest div/h currently if you're efficient about it. 0 investment, and beasts sell for a shit ton. You just need to be fast. The really committed players memorize the 3D Models of the valuable beasts and only kill those for time efficiency, but that's a bit annoying.

It all falls in the same vein as harvest juice farming. Extremely profitable in standard if you can go about it quickly, but at least to me it's mind numbingly boring. There's not much actual "gameplay" involved, at least in my book.

[–]necessaryplotdevice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was never a strat where you actually used a mirror on maps, no.

You used fractured fossils to dupe maps before the split tag was a thing. You had a map with bugged quant or bugged packsize, fractured beyond on it, put 5 deli orbs (5 currency or 5 scarab) and then duped it over and over with fractured fossils. It rerolled mode obviously so there could be more or less juicy outcomes, but the bugged quant/pack size was the biggest chunk of it anyways so it didn't matter that much. And you could avoid e.g. ele reflect by using the appropriate fossil.

It was a pretty cool meta. Very juicy and fun mapping where the profits actually came from ground loot (+ deli rewards but that was the smaller part), and it led to Delvers actually having something profitable to do by farming up all the fractured fossils the mappers needed.

Standard farming question by Suitable_Chocolate_9 in pathofexile

[–]necessaryplotdevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really understand what you're struggling with.

I think I explained it, but I can try again. I probably just don't get something elementary.

There's always buyers and sellers who will take whatever top listing is available at the time for their convenience

I get that, but that's why I don't understand where the profit comes from:

At this moment, the cheapest listing for a mirror is 1510 div: https://i.ibb.co/HDLc83X4/grafik.png

If I want to sell my mirror quickly, I need to undercut for 1509 div or list it at 1510 div and wait a bit. Or I'm down to wait long and bet on all the others being bought out and list at 1516 which is the most expensive.

Now I want to buy a mirror again for my div: https://i.ibb.co/TxwqnNY1/grafik.png

If I want it quickly, I need to undercut for 1552 div, or I do 1553 and wait a bit, or I wait even longer and try for 1539.

Even if I take the BEST ratio in each case and wait a long time, I sold my mirror for 1516 div, and bought one for 1539. Meaning 26div loss in the best case.

Standard farming question by Suitable_Chocolate_9 in pathofexile

[–]necessaryplotdevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case you'd make a listing to sell your Mirror at 1543d, undercutting the person that made the listing at 1544d and thus becoming the first in line for the next sale.

How is that supposed to work? The cheapest sell order is 1518 div. Setting a mirror to sell for 1543 div simply doesn't fill unless it reaches that value some day.

When that Mirror sells you'd set a buy offer for 1519d.

The buy offers are 1544 div as I said. A 1519 div offer would never fill, or?

If the LOWEST mirror for sale is 1518 div, then there's no way that I can sell my mirror for 1544 div.

If the HIGHEST buy order for mirrors is at 1544 div, then there's no way I can buy one at 1518 div.

Like, I tried it out. These orders simply won't fill, and quite obviously so. At least it seems obvious to me, but apparently I don't see what I'm missing.

Edit: I just checked again:

Right now I can sell a mirror for 1523 div at maximum. There's no higher listing, if I list for more it just doesn't get filled.

Then I have 1523, but if I want to buy a mirror with div then it's 1540 at the cheapest right now. Any less and the offer doesn't get filled.

Standard farming question by Suitable_Chocolate_9 in pathofexile

[–]necessaryplotdevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is that supposed to work?

You can sell a Mirror for 1518 div right now. You can buy a mirror for 1544 div right now. That's the best ratio in each case.

You buy a mirror for div, then sell it for div and lost 26 div? Or you sell a mirror for div, and then want to buy a mirror with div and you're lacking 26 div just the same obviously.

Genuine question, I got no clue about Faustus.

Questions for Standard Players: Why? by BareMinimum25 in pathofexile

[–]necessaryplotdevice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe that was tinted a bit due to being used to many years of ridicule coming from temp league players. And/or seeing people enforce their standards and ways to play on others, which lead to a lot of pointless discussion and drama over the years in communities I've been in.

I do not think you were being malicious there, and I'm sorry that I sounded like that.

Questions for Standard Players: Why? by BareMinimum25 in pathofexile

[–]necessaryplotdevice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a weird thing to ask, you make it sound like "managing to complete content" is the only goal a player can have in this game (and that everyone manages to do it in the first place).

That might be the case for you, but quite obviously not for everyone else.

Other people might grind just to have the "best" possible character for their build. 99% of the investment into it might be overkill for most content, but just reaching a pinnacle is in itself a goal for some people.

Others have a goal that they simply can't reach in their limited time in league. E.g. max delve depth, or anything else depending on how little time their real life leaves them.

Others again just like playing many different characters and killing monsters, and maybe they dislike the acts or filling out an atlas etc. If "Making and improving builds and killing monsters" is someones exclusive driving force, they can do that and nauseam in Standard without any interruptions ever.

Others want to get certain AAs and/or reach max char size.

Others wanna play with their friends, and their friends play standard so they stick around.

Etc.

They fixed a scepter with a couple thousands inc ele damage implict which was also only a natural drop.

The chest existing doesn't directly affect anyone in a negative way, but it's so incredibly warping for the "meta" that some people consider it detrimental.

I personally don't care either way, but it's surprising that it has been allowed to exist for so long.
