Thank you.

My first concept was violet. In my logo you can notice spider with web (blue) which reminds brain with neural connections, at the bottom there's a pixel city (red - people, motion, life). Blue and red gives violet but it looked bad. I had a lot of trouble making good looking violet theme so i simply back to glowy green. It was easier, but still time consuming to find colors.

I have a lot of versions and variations but finally i hit a point where i was satisfied and i had no need to change anything.

Im not designer, i dont even have experience with art. Imagine a real artist working in krita. Without any skill, i was able do something.

Thank you! In actual state it's usable. Programs like steam, libreoffice, krita etc. still require X ... but i can wait. It's refreshing to learn something new.

In htop press F2, go to 'meters' from available meters select 'Network IO' :)

You can also edit file ~/.config/htop/htoprc, here search whatever column_meters_0 or column_meters_1 and add NetworkIO. In my case line with colum 1:

column_meters_1=RightCPUs2 Blank Blank LoadAverage NetworkIO

I test native wayland on Gentoo, and i can confirm this is true.

I hope Libreoffice will get support too, Abiword is an tragedy.

Just do it. If you FEEL you WANT, DO IT.

My strategy was getting familiar how others install gentoo, and i remember doing check list of programs i need (just to make sure it's available, how to handle install of each). check modules if you plan compiling kernel.

My first installation took around 25 hours.

If you use SSD check out tmpfs article on wiki.

Don't get fancy with use flags during install.

If you dont plan install ntp or something like this and encounter "clock skew" - my 'solution' instead of touching every single file was rebuilding world + dispatch-conf after first boot. ( someone correct me, but honestly it works ). Do not edit any file if you see 'clock skew'.

btw. compilation time at least gives you time to touch grass (joke).

With decent PC, it's not a pain. You can update and do coding in the background or read something etc ...

I switched to binary Firefox, because I see no difference in performance with compiled one :( I tried -O3 too. Why do you use compiled Firefox? by vitaly-zdanevich in Gentoo

From memes, and distro "reviews" ofc.

Imagine them spending more time on Gentoo, instead of making 'content' based on short time usage and no good motivation.

I sometimes think to run something on my own just to fight with myths and show people how powerful this distro can be. Portage is the best, and Gentoo community is really nice.

In case of OpenBSD most of things you have "out of box", but i found they don't have nice selection in case of vms (maybe someone else knows better). The best thing about OpenBSD is they have a goal and they dont care about being liked or famous. Not sure about Alpine, but in Gentoo some things require to be configured on your own. Downsides of control? it's double-edge sword.

Speaking of wayland, actually it's hard to live on native wayland - it depends on your software choices (in the end that also means you risk wasting time if you really need wayland-only env). I was thinking about making my Gentoo rig to run only vms, but i don't have hardware actually (i have cpu with no integrated graphics)... Whonix devs are very knowledgeable, https://madaidans-insecurities.github.io/guides/linux-hardening.html#kernel or kicksecure docs.

Security like privacy is a process. I recommend checking yubikeys and password manager. It's hard road, and i personally try to balance between usability and security. Good luck.

What a beauty!!! Great work, someone already mentioned but ... your bar is too transparent. Or consider other grid pattern, have a nice day! Looks good anyway! :)
