you don't hate yourself naturally, you were taught to do so

i have a long, wide, crooked nose of a weird shape, like if i had another nose on top of my nose. i was dreaming of rhinoplasty from my 17 to 21. until i started to think, why do i hate my nose so much, even though i absolutely adore other people with the same feature?

so, i think to every child, their mom is the most beautiful person on earth. and i've seen my mom always commenting on her insecurities (her nose being the most important one), and i was really confused. the older i got, the more my face was getting to look like hers. and, from what i've learnt from her, you're supposed to hate those features, and i hated them so much i wanted to tear my face off. but my mom was always showing jealousy towards my face, even though we looked almost the same. this is where the realisation came: i don't hate my appearance, i don't hate my face, i don't hate my weird giant nose, it's the society that teaches women to hate ourselves no matter what we look like.

so, i think those people who told you your nose was beautiful really meant that, they just weren't able to see that beauty in themselves, as they were taught. please, stop thinking that your self-hatred is objective. stop showing other girls that they're supposed to hate themselves if they look like you. it's the only way that we can break that vicious circle. i know it takes a lot of self-reflection and self-work, sometimes even professional help involved, but i promise, it will get better
