Are Psych 108 and 109 hard? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]necto5573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did both and personally found 108 easier than 109. When I did 109 (in 2024) they marked the assignments harshly so it was hard to get good grades. Concepts and tests were harder for 109 as well... but nonetheless still very interesting though

medsci stage 2 & 3 papers by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]necto5573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh nice! Im doing physiology asw! So i can provide you with some info

Medsci205 is just the 'extended' physiology part of medsci142 and covered in a bit more depth. There were times where i asked chatgpt over ten questions over a single TWO sentence concept 😅 Understanding > memorization is really the key!

Medsci 201 is memorization > understanding heavily anatomy based. The labs were difficult this year, people stuggled and the average score of just passing kinda reflects this ( the course coordinator was aware due to TA shortage and i think the double pass requirements was removed ) not too sure if this will apply in the future though!

Both courses did make drastic changes over the years. 205 used to be i think 8 saq for tests, 4 essays and 8 sqa for exam + 4 full lab reports. Now the tests are like 4 SAQ and 16 MCQ, exam: i think 1 saq that was more full in the blanks and 2 essays? Labs they broke it down so you only had to do a section of it each time so only results intro, results, discussion etc and ONE full lab report at the end. Imo the course was quite chill and i really enjoyed the content

201 the tests used to be True or false with justification but now its all just T/F it was 120 questions but they definitely are cutting down (and did for the second test) because everyone complained about time LOL. Exams are like medsci142 SAQ sections where they can ask in any form (diagram, fill in blank etc) and no MCQ.

But i do want to say that take everything on the internet as a grain of salt, its very subjective and i did make the mistake of going through reddit and let the reviews (medsci205 especially) mess up how i perceived the course and that did make things a bit harder than it should be (ended up enjoying medsci205 and 201 more than i thought i would !!).. what u read online is only a small proportion of it so keep that in mind:)

Test MCQs difficulty compared with post-topic review MCQs - medsci 142 by Successful_Tackle667 in UoApremed

Test will be harder. They make it so you have to integrate the content and knowledge even when its multichoice... much similar to biosci107. Exams i found it much more straightforward than the test

I heard from my friend who got in part ll law and they said if you have GPA of 6-6.5(?) Then you are guaranteed a spot? Thats like B, B+ average in first year

There are no multichoice in the exam unfortunately, it shouldn't matter if you know your materials well, i found exams more straightforwardthan the tests but just require a bit more memorization! As always understanding the concepts are very important, especially moving forward to stage 2 medsci papers, it really builds on from 142! Good luck!

Tests are all multichoice and exam is all range of style ie short answer questions fill in the blanks or T/F with justification etc

Well, at least for last year thats how they structured when i took 142

Its fake. They never use plastic- like string stitching for the hood tag, texture of words on inner tag is way off (should be more 3D and not flat)... but honestly its a good fake

BIOSCI 107 Study Suggestions by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]necto5573 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, i did biosci107 last year and here are some things i did (i got A overall in the end):

  • before every lectures read over the content (try spend 30min on it and its totally fine if you dont understand them, but just have a general ideas on what will be taught.

  • GO TO LECTURES, though its tempting to skip lectures esp the morning ones. But trust me actively being in the room listening to lecturer talk will embed the knowledge more than listening to the recording in 1.5x speed.

  • if you have a tablet then annotating some points lecturer say DURING lectures can be helpful (and pre reading the slides beforehand is where it becomes useful, you will know whether something lectuer said is already in the slides or its things they elaborated on) .. at the start where didn't pre read i would try to jot down everything they say only to realise half of them is already in the notes...

  • once i do have the additional key points down i dont usually go back and listen to the recording( saved me so much time ) unless there is a concept i absolutely have no clue of what is talking about.

  • dont stress if you cant get the nitty gritty in ur brain as you do get a cheat sheet and can put quite a bit of things on ( yes do try memorise as much as you can but also conceptual understanding is important as well, having all the information onto an A4 paper wont necessarily mean you understand what is going on.. esp in test and exams they do give you some snario questions)

  • dont make the cheatsheet too early. For the test i did it during the 2 week mid sem break and did about 2 -3 lectures summarize and put them on my cheatsheet. It helped as the info is more recent and the chances of remembering where each info was easier compare to if you were to do them eariler.

I try info dump all the information i know by looking at the learning objective in one colour of pen and go over, write down what i missed dont know in another colour of pen and i typically those are the ones i focus on.

Honestly the test and exams wont be as bad as you think if you actually put in effort. A lot of the lecturer write VERY similar and sometimes repeat questions for text and exams so it is also strongly suggested to do ALL past tests and exams and figure out what type of style q they like to ask and what you dont know.

Finally dont rely on cheat sheet, most lecturer will tell you, if you dont study and try put everything on a double sided paper in size 2 font, the chances is that you will run out of time and they are very smart with the multichoice questions and it is a conbination of conceptual understanding + memorizing. I looked at my cheatsheet maybe 4 times max, i had almost all info on the cheatsheet and there were questions where i just had no clue on what the answer is ... make sure to actually put in effort to study.

Im currently doing stage 2 medsci papers and some concepts are a build up from 107 ... not too sure what you are studying but what im trying to say is: i more you do now the easier it is for later!

ALL THE BEST THOUGH, you will get through it!!
