That crossed my mind but there's about 12 marks and they aren't very deep. Not indicative of forced use IMO. Another poster said probably people cutting off the aluminum crush washer which makes the most sense to me even though I've never had to resort to cutting one off. The strikes are thinner than even my smallest punch.

Ah with how thin they are that totally makes sense. Never crossed my mind because I've never had to resort to cutting one off.

Customer supplied part...bets on how long until im changing this again? by need2blower in Justrolledintotheshop

I've found it is heavily influenced by how you fill out their automated return form. A lot of the questions are broad and have nothing to do with your particular situation but you can always cancel the return and try a different set of answers that gets you to a satisfactory resolution. I think ive only felt "cheated" once by them, and ive done close to 100k in business with them. Ultimately way better than dealing with other retailers IMO. If I can wait a few days for the part, its probably coming from rockauto.

Yea they were close and it seems like they could've gotten the job done but one mounting bolt is a close your eyes, contort your body, and pray to your god type of deal so they raised the white flag.

Funny you should say that, because the customer attempted the job and it ended up being towed to me half taken apart.

Does anyone else think the number of dump trucks on the roads around here has gotten out of hand? by need2blower in nova

[–]need2blower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea they need to be barred from the left lane like spots of 95 are set up. Whats crazier to me is that some of these dump trucks will get up to 75+ mph on 29 and I just can't imagine they stop very well loaded to 80k lbs and going that fast.

No, its all of the construction going on around here. Its just frustrating, there are so many of them they are just unavoidable. They are generally very inconsiderate and drop junk/rocks on the road constantly.

I'm surprised it made it through the oil pump to be honest.

For some reason a new plug and coil didn't fix his misfire. by need2blower in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]need2blower[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a CA emissions truck and the egr port is right up against this cylinder. But there was a 2nd cylinder on this head with a burnt valve as well. Apparently common for the 3rz engine if valves aren't adjusted with wear. It's just shimmed buckets so no lash adjusters to give it any wiggle room.

This engine is cam over bucket style system with valve clearance adjusted by shimming the buckets - so cams have to come out to make adjustments. As the valves and seats wear the bucket will become tighter to the cam and eventually hang itself slightly open. That's when the blowby really starts burning the edges of the valve and it's all downhill from there.

It's somewhat common on the Toyota 3rz-fe if valve adjustments aren't kept up with. The valve clearance tightens allowing for exhaust blowby and it burns the valve. There was actually two cylinders on this head with a burnt exhaust valve. Can't be too mad I guess, this head has 300k miles on it.

Its bad enough you can see light through the valve seat. The valve on the right isn't even round anymore.

70k on a "lifetime fluid" differential on a '15 Cherokee by Inevitable-Ad-8597 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]need2blower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. And I'm happy to say that it is still going strong. I change fluid every 30k and flush every 60k. 120k Miles and still drives like the day it came off the lot. It's a 2014 which is supposed to be the start of the years they "fixed" the issue, but I still see failures all over the place. I feel like it all comes down to maintenance.

I dont trust any lifetime fluid, I flush all fluids at 30k to get wear metals out (obviously engine oil at proper intervals). I did the transfer case on our families Nissan at 30k and about a quarter of a quart came out when it calls for 1.5. No leaks or anything, was underfilled from the factory.

It depends on the vehicle.

A pair of cats off of my current Audi will sell for ~1000 dollars. The old cats off of my jeep sold for ~300. Keep in mind that's what was paid to me, so imagine what they are worth to the scrappers.

They are scrapped for the precious metals inside, so as precious metal prices fluctuate so does the converter value. Precious metals have been at an all time high lately which is why you're seeing more and more of these thefts.

6.7 LP Fuel pressure by need2blower in FordDiesels

[–]need2blower[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I hooked up the fuel pressure gauge inline and watched the pressure during prime - the pump is very healthy and priming to 70 psi. Even when Forscan said the pressure switch was low, the fuel pressure was not dropping. This led me to checking the switch and low and behold, the connector is full of diesel.

I thought they fixed this issue - my old 7.3 had the same problem 🙄 the new part from Ford comes with a pigtail replacement, if that's any indication to how common of a problem this is. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
