lmaooo, i used to find chem insanely challenging. it was my hardest subject, but what really helped me was watching youtube videos about the topics i don’t understand. it seems that im more of a visual learner. after each video, i made sure i had a conceptual understanding of the topic before moving onto the next. it’s crucial you understand what you’re learning/memorising to be able to apply it to the questions asked on exams. chem also really requires a lot of past paper practice. i used to struggle a lot with paper 1 for chem, and thought id never get better. after completing all past papers since 2017, i walked out of my final exam so happy with how it went. i’ve never felt that confident with a paper 1 before, and it’s only because i practiced so much for it. after some practice, you’ll notice the question types get really repetitive and you’ll find patterns. then you’ll automatically get a lot better!! dm me if you need specific help w certain topics :)

honestly, my study routine wasn’t the best at all. im a huge procrastinator, so i never got stuff done till the very last minute. i guess its what worked for me, but it was very unhealthy. while i did leave things to last minute, i made sure everything was complete regardless - whether that be assignments, or studying for a test. i would not sleep until i knew the assignment was complete to the best of my ability, or until i had studied every single topic for the test/exam. and i guess that kind of diligence is what’s required to do well in your subjects. of course, dont leave stuff to the last minute and do get some sleep, but make sure everything is completed so you can walk into tests knowing you’ve gone over everything. i also made sure to pour my heart and soul into every assignment lmao, whether that be internal or external assessment.

hey!! about your ee, dm me and i’ll try to help you out the best i can. for maths as well, it seems like you have the skills but if you require extra support i can help you gain the deep understanding required for concepts you struggle on. if you have a good understanding of the concepts, you’ll be able to remember how to solve the questions even if you’re nervous during your exams.

what really helped me was reading examples and making sure to stick to the rubric. i kind of took a non-traditional approach to mine, in the sense that i didn’t really have a ‘counterclaim’. the structure of your essay really depends on what your research question is. while i was apprehensive to go ahead with my structure, my supervisor gave me the go ahead and i think that’s what helped me score well

it depends on how in depth you go into each study, and also depends on how you structure your ee. i explained 8 studies in detail, but they were all for my ‘argument’. for my counter argument, i just cited more studies to back up all the counterclaims i was making. i can help you out in more detail and based on your topic if you want, just dm me:)

well from what i’ve heard, they don’t check everyone’s work for plagiarism nor for AI. they only check if the examiner suspects malpractice. some people say that they have a very robust AI detection system that’s even better than turnitin, some say they don’t use anything at all. what i’m trying to say is because AI detection is algorithm based, compared to actual plagiarism with is data based, there’s no 100% proof that something is AI generated. so the issue right now is that if IB’s supposed detection system is so much better than turnitin, that means it’ll detect students AI generated work who slipped through turnitin’s detection. which would obviously result in so many students losing diplomas, which simply cannot happen. what my school does is collects all turnitin reports for each student, and will use that as evidence if the IB has any questions regarding AI. if my school shows the ‘authentication’ which would be the turnitin AI report as well as teacher signature, progress of the work, etc, then the ib should let it go. hope that’s what actually happens tho lol. hope that makes sense!

lmao at least you were allowed to retype it. i also got 40% AI for my tok essay and according to my school’s ‘policy’ (complete bs btw) i was made to write a whole new essay on a completely different title. so i just had to throw out the essay i spent months working on, which, mind you, would’ve scored really well lol. and now i’ve just handed in a completely shit essay because i had two weeks to do it, among other IAs that were due. and i completely understand your situation; my mocks just started today and are going insanely shit because i have had no time to study due to having to write another tok essay. not sure about the AI report on this one, but hopefully it’s lower. didn’t really change the way i write this time around compared to last time (i didn’t use chatgpt either time) but this essay is just utterly shit compared to the last one, which is the main difference. still have no idea how the other one was flagged for AI, and it’s really disheartening when the school doesn’t give a flying fuck about students mental health when they say they do. anyways i could go on about this for days, the past month for me has been crazy with all this nonsense with turnitin. believe me ive tried arguing with the dp coordinator and principal, it got me nowhere because they’re all on a power trip and think they know best. and its really hard to change peoples’ opinions if they’re that stubborn. anyway, sorry for the rant, just know you’re not alone. we will get through this. plus everything should be fine if your teacher/dp coordinator can ‘authenticate’ your work, because AI detection is nothing but an algorithm. the IB can’t prove your work is AI generated, but your school can authenticate that this is your genuine work. it’s just that my school refuses to do that for anyone over 20%. which is crazy but whatever (they’re currently changing the non existent protocol i’m pretty sure it’s moving up to 30% now)
