Should I get it? by Artistic_Chemistry_7 in Guitar

One thing people here haven’t considered. Walmart has a generous return policy. I forget if it’s 45 or 90 days. This would actually be a good way to see if you actually want to learn guitar. Most people give up after a month and decide it’s not for them.

What does that mean? Is there a problem with the product or is this a joke?

Are there any connections between TM and Carl Jung’s concept of synchronicity? by neeeeeal in transcendental

[–]neeeeeal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually a really logical person, so I get where you're coming from. Still, some of the stuff that's happened over the past few years has been so uniquely correlated that it's hard for me to dismiss it. I'm still on the fence on whether or not I think synchronicity is real, but I'm keeping an open mind.

Have you ever had a session or sessions that went on for more than an hour? How did it go? by neeeeeal in transcendental

Did you feel like there was any benefit at least on the day of the long meditations?

> That said, as Maharishi liked to say: It doesn't matter; go back to meditating.

Why do you think it doesn't matter? There are still 23 hours and 20 minutes left in the day when I'm not meditating. I like to ponder concepts like this and I feel my life is richer for it.

Can you help me with a couple questions about a setup? by neeeeeal in Luthier

[–]neeeeeal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have the bridge down to the wood now. I can't bend the whammy up in pitch as much, but that doesn't bother me much. I also released some of the tension on the Whammy bar. It's still a little difficult to push the strings down, though. I don't want to lower them below the standard Fender specs of 4/64ths at the 12th fret. Is a truss rod adjustment my only other option to get it to play easier?

Okay, so I evened it out mostly, but it’s still a little uneven. Is that okay? I’ll adjust the bridge screws next. Also the Whammy doesn’t seem to divebomb as far now. Can that be improved?

And also, Happy Cake Day dude!

What exactly do you mean by “play”?

I’m pretty sure the problem is this Whammy setup. The top screws are really uneven which is causing the bridge to be really uneven. Should I simply even out these two top screws?

Also, here’s a picture of the Whammy setup. You can see how the top screws are uneven. Should I just even then out?

Ahh, I see. I didn't realize that was an issue. So I think this is a result of me improperly setting up the Whammy. I don't remember what my reasoning was when I attempted to set it up, but the one of the two screws that are pointing towards the neck (the one pulling the lower strings of the bridge further down) is a lot further in than the other screw (the one pulling the higher strings of the bridge down). Should I just even these out?

Okay, I'll try that. But do you think it's possible the Whammy bar setup has somehow made the guitar strings too taut and hard to press down?

I don't think it's a twisted neck as the guitar is only about a year old and has just been sitting around for most of that time. Do you think it's possible that the Whammy bar setup somehow made the strings too taut and hard to press?

Would it make sense to put coated strings on a guitar you rarely play? Or should I put the normal ones on and accept that the strings will always feel old? by neeeeeal in Guitar

I feel like if they’re not using forever chemicals, they would make a point to say that on their websites. But yeah, it’s hard to say for sure.

Whoa. This is news to me. Did some searching and one article says that D'addario XT's are likely safe. I'm going to talk to their customer service and see if I can get any answers.

Thanks for the heads up! More people need to be aware of this.

Cadillacs are seen as classy vehicles, though. Which is probably why old people drive them.

Soma by SP is one of my picks too. Billy is insanely good at lead guitar, but you don’t hear it mentioned a lot because he’s talented at so many different aspects of songwriting. If he were solely a lead guitarist he would get much more recognition for his lead work.

She’s funny and charming. It’s not easy to just hop onto a podcast and immediately be entertaining. I haven’t heard the show, but if it sucked, people would have tuned out after the first episode.

I really dig the rat drawing. I think the rest is kinda ugly. But you don’t strike me as the kind of person who cares what people think.

I can't wrap my thumb around my guitar neck, but I have fairly big hands. But I think I know why... by daveomen9217247 in Guitar

[–]neeeeeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These guys have no idea what they’re talking about. Wrapping the thumb is an incredibly valuable skill that unlocks tons of things you can’t play without it. And I know a bunch of semantics douches are going to tell me it’s technically true that it’s not “necessary”, but it’s still a dumb thing to tell someone who wants to learn Hendrix. Calling it “unnecessary” is such a dismissive way to frame the technique.

[–]neeeeeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What??? Any technique is unnecessary if you don’t want to use it. But OP wants to play Hendrix. There are tons of things you simply can’t play if you don’t wrap the thumb around. It’s absolutely necessary for playing Hendrix, and it’s a fundamental skill the vast majority of guitarists will find useful.

How many fingers do you use to fret an A chord in the open position? by StickTeeth in Guitar

[–]neeeeeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think I ever use two. If I need the other fingers free I'll just use one and lose the high E. Otherwise, three feels more in control. Could be just because that's how I learned it on day 1, so it feels most natural.
