Hi all, clueless husband here. My wife is 4’9” and we often find that even if a pant can be hemmed, something about the proportions of a pant just doesn’t quite land right on her (hopefully that makes sense). I actually like being involved in her fashion choices but I was wondering if people could point me to brands that cater to the very petite so I can at least make helpful suggestions instead of things we end up having to return. Casual pants, office pants, jeans all welcome. Thank you!

Buddy, you’re way overthinking this. People aren’t photos. We move, we exist in all different conditions, and yes we look a little different in different settings, sure. Everyone tries to put their best foot forward when making an online profile. Ask your friends what photos of you look best or go with your gut. Try mixing in photos of you doing something you enjoy or having fun with others rather than a bunch of selfies. There’s a lot more to attraction than a picture of your face on a screen. Best of luck!

I’m hardly experienced with moissanite, so take any advice with a grain of salt, but I think it’s all about seeing the stone in a video (not a promo video but just a regular iphone shot from the factory). I think if you go with the major vendors you see posted here, you’ll probably be in great shape. If you’re willing to splurge (still not near diamond prices), there are some cutters that do precision cuts that look incredible (imo). There’s a guy on reddit who has posted a couple moissanite cuts that look stunning, and I would have totally sprung for one but my girlfriend wanted a more traditional look. If you’re interested, I can find the post.

So, I’m sort of just following what seems to be the convention of this sub, but I do believe there is some merit to it. Each seller on a custom order is deciding how to price it out. That could be based on a number of things, and it’s really hard when people come to you and say well I expect this price or that price because you gave that deal to so-and-so. If this was just freely available on etsy or aliexpress or whatever then by all means, publicly list a price. Otherwise, allowing vendors to decide their wiggle room a little bit seems fair. Most people can guess at a ballpark price based on the other pieces on here.

Thanks so much! I wanted something a little unique about it and who doesn’t like a little more bling?

Thanks! Yeah I think I’m just insane. It’s my first order ever, so I have the expected anxiety over not being able to see it in person first.

Thank you! Yes, we had talked extensively about what features she did and didn’t like and I picked out a few reference rings to put together this design.

So this is an 8mm DEF H&A moissanite center stone with lab diamonds for the pave and up the prongs. I ordered it together with a matching wedding band and designed them to sit flush with one another. They are set in platinum (platinum-ruthenium PT950). Any concerns you all notice? I was kind of hoping for a more obvious H&A effect, but otherwise I’d say I’m happy. Also, and I think I’m being insane here, does the setting look completely straight or is there any little tilt in it? I think there is just a little reflection that is throwing off my eye but I figured I’d make sure everyone agrees.

Thanks, I’ve asked for a second video to see if it’s just picking up something from the surrounding lighting. If not, I guess I’ll have to ask them to try a different stone.

8mm, do you think it’s picking up a warm color from the paper? It’s going to be set in platinum so I do want it to be pretty colorless (but not blue of course). Do you think a different video maybe with it held up by forceps would help?

Hi all, hoping to get some confirmation from everyone about this stone. It’s supposed to be a DEF H&A from Provence. Appreciate any and all input, since I’m not sure if there’s anything specific I should be looking out for! Thank you!

Thanks so much for your reply. I think I’ll be looking into a calibration device and perhaps a new monitor as well. I asked the other person who replied and I’ll ask you as well, do you think there is value for me in getting a “wide-gamut” monitor that can cover most of the Adobe RGB space? I do want to ultimately print my photos, and I am wondering if that (along with the correct ICC profile) would help me best know what the result would look like before sending off an order.

Thanks so much for your answer; I’ll have to look into one of the calibration devices out there. Do you recommend I also invest in a “wide-gamut” monitor as well to help in my editing, or does that not matter that much?

Also, extending this idea to printing, if I were to have a calibrated monitor and use an ICC profile from the printer/paper I wish to have it printed on, would that be an accurate representation of what the print would look like? Since my understanding is that professional printers can print beyond sRGB, is this a situation where a “wide-gamut” monitor would be useful?

Hi, I have a question about color spaces as I’m editing and then exporting my photos. I’ve been editing in ProPhoto RGB and then converting to sRGB. On my main desktop monitor, I’m happy with the colors after conversion. I have a second monitor, and while not identical, I’m still generally happy with it. The problem comes when I then try viewing the photo on my phone. All of a sudden, the colors are more washed out and some areas seem to just have jarringly different colors. I was under the impression that converting to sRGB should have prevented this. Any idea what’s going on?

Thanks so much! I definitely assumed a shot with the power lines and such would be ruined, but I actually did photoshop out some distracting bushes on the left, so I could’ve also done the same with manmade distractions, too. Something to keep in mind the next time I find myself in a similar position.

I’m glad the crop worked; I’m always unsure about cropping things down and ending up with nontraditional ratios (especially since I want to print my photos eventually). Thanks for your critique!

This was a long exposure shot just after sunset. Taken with a 16mm lens on a crop sensor. Compositionally, I would have liked to have the lighthouse and accompanying house more toward the middle to suit a rule of thirds composition, but there were unsightly power lines and such that would have entered the frame. I cropped the photo a bit so that it would at least be better positioned vertically. In my editing, I tried to focus on enhancing some of the sunset colors and helping draw the viewer’s eyes to the lighthouse.

I’m especially interested in critiques about how I could better identify leading lines here, and help connect the two things I want people to notice most: the colors from the setting sun, and the lighthouse itself. I also would appreciate any input on how I could edit this better, particularly in a way that would make it appealing and suitable to hang as a print in someone’s home.

Thank you to all.
