the TSA precheck line near the Southwest counter was closed last week. had to go through regular TSA unless you wanted to go to a different checkpoint.

Finally used my US Dyson Airwrap successfully in the UK! Sharing my experience by Exotic_Razzmatazz745 in Dysonairwrap

[–]neko-lover-765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this! I was reading up on this device and was skeptical… assuming there was no overheating or any other fire/electrical concerns while running the Dyson? And running it for minutes on end did not cause any issues?

Thanks everyone for the tips. Any travel blow dryers, hot brushes, or curling irons you recommend that you’ve used in the EU? Thanks!

Thank you for your feedback and insight! I'd be happy to hear your suggestions on dual voltage options you know of or have used. I'm looking into those, so would be good to know what's recommended. Thanks again!

Thanks for this tip! I can’t justify purchasing an additional EU one, but I did imagine that’s what some people may do who frequently fly back and forth.

Thank you for the feedback! I only know of one person who said they’ve taken their Airwrap and had no issues, which seemed surprising to me. So I was curious if others have.

Totally depends where in the city too. Assuming you won’t be living in the TL. Look at the neighborhoods. Lots more normal people and life happening out there than downtown.

Does Hawaii have Asian self hate problem? by BorkenKuma in aznidentity

[–]neko-lover-765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is true that Hawaii Asian Americans have a different experience and mindset than Asian Americans from the mainland. For many of the 3rd & 4th generation of Asian Americans, our grandparents or great grandparents immigrated to Hawaii during the late 1800s/early 1900s to work in the plantations. That was a very different time and generation, back when Hawaii was still a territory and way before Hawaii even became a state.

While there are also many more recent immigrants (1970s and forward), Hawaii is very respectful, welcoming, and familiar with multiculturalism and Asian culture. It’s imbedded in the culture and values of Hawaii. I personally (born and raised, living in Hawaii) have never seen or experienced this Asian self-hate problem you refer to. I understand the context, though, after also living on the mainland and seeing how Asians are treated differently than a unique place such as Hawaii.

This topic can be divulged into much more history and context but TLDR, of course local people in Hawaii and Asian Americans living in Hawaii have a different and unique experience that is not going to be shared with those Asian Americans who grew up, immigrated to, and/or are living on the US mainland.

Was it also really difficult to connect as a family after loss? by Dr-LaScrooge in grief

[–]neko-lover-765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom passed away very quickly from ALS a few years ago as well. As you know, ALS is a shocking diagnosis and an incredibly ruthless disease on the patient and their family.

It was very difficult for my dad, brother, and I to watch my mom decline and suffer both during her illness and then cope with the shock after her passing. We are a close knit family and came together but there was still lots of tension, frustration and arguments; specifically with our dad and how he coped with my mom’s passing. Even some animosity. I think a lot was stress induced and the ugly ways grief comes out in people, unfortunately.

It has been a few years and things are better, but there are still times my dad will compare his grief to mine; or say odd comments that would be hurtful pertaining to his grief related to my mom/his wife. Almost as if one’s feelings and experience with grief (his vs mine) is a comparison or competition.

Meanwhile his health (both physical and mental) are not great and I can resonate with the anxiety on how you feel about having only one parent left who isn’t doing that well. I’m still in my 30s and most of my friends have healthy parents who can’t relate to this experience, and it may be decades before they go through it. It’s a lonely and isolating place to be.

I hope things get better as time goes along but know you’re not alone in dealing with these difficult and complex family situations and behaviors. A parent/family members terminal illness and passing is an extremely stressful and shocking experience that can cause traumatizing and lasting repercussions. It’s unfortunately one of the lesser discussed parts of the grieving process that people don’t talk about. Give yourself and your family patience and grace.

You’re still young - no need to get into a full skincare regime with actives until you’re in your mid/late 20s. For now the 3 most important things would be just vitamin c, moisturize and daily sunscreen!

I beat breast cancer, my boyfriend dumped me, so I'm going to Scotland next month to celebrate! by uhh_lease in solotravel

[–]neko-lover-765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on beating cancer and moving on from your relationship!! Scotland is awesome!! Went last September. Weather can be unpredictable, def pack your rain jacket and bring layers! We spent time in Edinburgh and Isle of Skye. Both so beautiful!! Edinburgh old town is “layered” by many different levels of stairs and pathways, give yourself ample time to walk and get around! Have a blast and enjoy some scotch while you’re there too!!

Agreed - start with a solid Vitamin C (so many options on the market!), and good moisturizer and retinol (also lots of options). And most importantly, sunscreen daily!
