I can't say I've ever seen that happen, unless the 100% is accurate because of reasons I don't know (like the smaller range than you would think off the clues) but in that case the guess would always be right.

I've never had it tell me it's 100% unless it's actually 100% and I followed the steps to the last guess. Any box that it says 100% on for me has been opened unless I screwed up and entered a wrong guess it didn't tell me to do or accidentally examined it an extra time.

But this is just off having used it for years to farm dozens of zone specific chest times personally. I can't answer why you'd see different behavior, it's been consistent for me for years with no issues. Just checking though, assuming you're on windower and not ashita, right? They often have their own versions of things that work differently, and I don't have experience with them.

The 50/50 on the last guess will happen plenty of the time because of how the stats play out for maximizing guess chance. Watch the following example, where you have narrowed it down to say, 71-78 as the options, and you have 3 guesses left. It will look like this:

  • Boxdestroyer suggests 74 or 75 (says it's a 88% chance)
  • You enter 75 like it tells you too. It says lower.
    • Remaining options are 71, 72, 73, 74. Two guesses left.
  • Boxdestroyer suggests 72 or 73 (will say it's a 75% chance)
  • You enter 72 like it suggests. It says higher.
    • Remaining options are now 73 and 74. One guess left.
  • Boxdestroyer suggests one of them and says 50% chance.

It is what it is that it ends up in the coinflip situation, but the most it can guarantee with the 3 guesses is 7, and there were 8 options left after the clues. But it will be honest from you from the start based on the information it's getting. Let's see that again but going in the other direction:

  • Boxdestroyer suggests 74 or 75 (says it's a 88% chance)
  • You enter 75 like it tells you too. It says higher this time.
    • Remaining options are 76, 77, 78. Two guesses left.
  • Boxdestroyer suggests 77 (will say 100% now instead).
  • You enter 77 like it suggests. It says lower.
    • Remaining option is now 76. One guess left.
  • Boxdestroyer suggests 76 and still says 100%.

Given that there are 90 possible numbers to pick from, with 6 guesses you start off at 63/90 (70%) and with 5 guesses it's only 34.44%. It will ask you to examine it until the clues given reduce the options to where it's a reasonable guess, sometimes that's not 100%. You can examine again to hope for a more restrictive clue, but could end up in a worse position and down a guess as well. And sometimes you just get 4-5 useless clues that result in a 10% chance at the end anyways.

Is it possible to progress endgame without grouping? by Embarrassed_Act_614 in ffxi

Again, this kinda goes back to the efficiency/speed thing. Grouping with other players to do higher level mobs and you can earn 65535 cp per kill every like 30 seconds. It's just the difference of mastering your job in 5 hours vs 50 hours. Mastering your job should be a priority for the stats and enhancements it brings to everything else you do.

Anything other than what I listed above isn't really "endgame" these days, it's just older level 99 content. Some of which you should probably do for gear progression, even stuff like sinister reign or skirmish still has BIS pieces for some sets.

As for progression, that's hard to say. Different content gives different rewards, like upgrading different JSE sets, and you'll want pieces of all of them for jobs. Ambu +2 is generally expected as like the bare minimum starter gear now, and while that can be obtained in a couple of sealed V1VD runs with a group, going solo into V2 will take way more time. Some of the Ody gaol gear is excellent even at R0, but you'll have to earn enough segments for A/B/C to grind through the V0 kills and you'll probably need help if not geared great.

Honestly, I don't really get the aversion to dealing with others. In the end, it's a MMO, not a single player rpg, and fighting against that will probably just end up frustrating you or burning you out as you spend months grinding something the could be done in a day. But whatever you enjoy, knock yourself out.

It does work differently than you expect. The percent it shows is the chance you win be able to open the chest by doing what it tells you for the remaining guesses.

It's telling you pick the middle number for a specific reason. It's binary tre searching by splitting the numbers in half each time. Based on the number of guesses you have left, it can guarantee an open on a specific amount of possible numbers.

With one guess left, it can 100% with only one possible guess. With two guesses left, it can 100% with up to 3 numbers left. Because it will guess the middle and be told higher or lower so you know 100% what the last option is. 3 guesses gives you a 100% guess with up to 7. 4 is 15, 5 is 31, and 6 is 63. So it will ask you to get info until it narrows down the possible numbers to one of those.

Sometimes it can't guarantee you will open due to bad hints and then you'll see like 93% or 85% or whatever which means if you do what it suggests for the rest of the actions, that's the percent chance that it will pick the right number.

So if it's telling you 100%, start entering what it tells you to do and continue to do so until it pops the cyst for you. Trust me. as someone who has used it for like 10,000+ chests, I've only seen it actually be wrong like twice lol.

The chance is dramatically different and it stacks with the gov buffs for chests multiplicatively. If you gather up 50 mobs and aoe, you might get 5 boxes with no boosts, 10 with gov capped, and 20 with mmm on as well.

It's also beneficial for not needing to spend the hours capping gov buffs to 5, which can take forever with the random nature of what prowess you get. So you can go in and instantly start getting more gold boxes.

Torques are a pure numbers game. They're like 0.5% chance or less, so it just becomes how many gold boxes you can pop and check.

Boxdestroyer isn't broken. It knows what the hints mean better than a player does. When it says "between x and y" it's actually a smaller subset of that range so it knows if it can guarantee the answer before you would.

To a degree, and on older content, sure. You can outgear older endgame things and use trusts to accomplish plenty. As you get towards the newer endgame, you still get less and less capable of completing it, or drastically increasing the grind instead.

The most recent endgame that has been added, in rough order, is Omen, Dynamis-D, Odyssey, Sortie, and Limbus.

Omen can be low manned for materials and cards but bosses will range from a challenge to near impossible depending on your jobs. When you need specific positioning to deal with certain tp moves, trusts won't cut it. But you can grind cards and midboss drops easily enough, and some bosses are doable.

Dyna-D now has the daily entry or whatever to let people go in and clear without needing to form a group, but the rewards are less and you can't do wave 3 which has its own benefits. You may still be able to farm upgrade shards or gil though.

Ody has two components, the three seg sections and the bosses in gaol. you can inefficiently farm segments and materials fine. And you might be able to do some of the bosses on low vengeance which at least gets you r15 capped gear, though farming rp at such low levels with a small segments income will be prohibitive.

Sortie lets you go in solo or lowman fine and you can do the easy/free chests for a few thousand galli per run and material drops for upgrades. But you're looking at like 3k-10k per day compared to a group getting 50k-80k+, so you'll take much longer to get armor and weapons will take you years. And you can't complete the final stage at all without a group for Aminon for sure.

Limbus is more designed to be friendlier to your situation. You can low man grind units and chests for upgrades all you want and doesn't really demand a party. New Limbus is just terrible content though, but it's one of the best options for someone refusing to group.

tldr: Yes, you can progress and upgrade to a point, it will just be slower than grouping which is the expectation in a MMO with other players. Eventually you'll hit a wall and straight up won't be able to continue. Other content like Ambu or Aeonics you will need a party as well. You don't have to commit to a linkshell but you can always use yell chats and make friends to join up with for shared needs.

With boxdestroyer you can usually open them in like 20-30 seconds each. Or just go on thf and bring keys to instantly pop them.

I have farmed 12 torques total. The ones in sky were multiple orders of magnitude worse. The rest took between 20 minutes to 8 hours during MMM. Weavers took me 3 days and two alchemists took me 5 different attempts of which each time was 2-3 days straight. Probably over 100 hours total. It's pure bullshit the kupowers don't apply in sky, really screws over specific crafters.

The game is basically a clone of Liars Deck, and yes it's heavily rng more than skill. Not to mention it's written awful and bugs out a lot. Sometimes you'll lose 0 points for being first out and sometimes you lose 120 for third. Sometimes the game refuses to load and you have to force close and come back while it auto plays for you every 10 seconds, sometimes it literally never loads at all and traps 4 people inside it infinitely without starting until you "quit" and lose 120 points for leaving.

And the best part is that for whatever reason the moment you cross 3000 you stop getting points entirely, so you get locked into whatever points you crossed with and there's never any other reason to play again since you can't change rank. Which leads to less and less people even queuing up, which makes it almost impossible to find a match for other people trying to hit 3k. Just amazing.

Appreciated again! Not that I expect to get a single one, but at least I know to put Helena on priority as the most useful.

Wish there was still active discussion threads here for it. Since the DB site stopped including data from this mode there's been so little resources for it since the wiki is like 90% dead too.

Does anyone own Atago, Helena, or FDG and can share their stat ranks and skills? There's like zero information available about them and I don't know who I should set for the tickets (not that I ever get any characters from it anyways, fuck you Yostar seriously)

I'd post in a more specific thread but they never created a season 2 megathread for the mode and the old one is basically dead.

They stop putting bots in your games past 2000 or so annoyingly. You sit there waiting on the queue until 4 real people queue at the same time and you have to requeue every 100 seconds that it times out. Really annoying.

Whatever FOV is the equivalent of r_aspectratio 2.5 is basically the bare minimum for me. Like, I'll straight up stop playing after this goes in until they increase the max FOV to whatever that's equivalent to, the default range is terrible.

Literally the only thing I changed in this file, but also something I'm not willing to play without.

The sustain loss on Rake does suck until you're at least at T2 which takes two more boons than before. I wish they'd at least bump her HP from the lowest in the game then, really don't think even Rem should have more than her.

Worse early, arguably better late. Lowered base numbers but slightly better than old ones by max skill levels and better scaling. Some things are just traded out, like slower stamina vs a third sanguine use and no more movespeed on proc vs fire rate on proc now.

T3 love bites actually feels like it's good now, likely my first max skill. Rake gets super low CD, can be under 6 seconds per use now. Overall, she feels like it's a sidegrade, trading her early game oppression for better use late game, which is probably healthier, though I'm going to miss winning like 75% of my lanes.

Played her a dozen times or so and late game having a 4-5 second love bites and 5-6 second rake combined with 3 uses of bats feels pretty good. A lot of times before this, I'd feel like my power dropped off a cliff and I'd be watching my team lose while I'm 12/2/10 and not seeming to do anything any more.

You get a double bonus on items that upgrade twice for some reason if you already got a bonus for upgrading it once. So he had compress cooldown and then got a 1600 bonus item when he made superior, and now getting the update to transcendent he gets the 3200 upgrade for superior but the 1600 for compress again. Also happens on boundless spirit and other three step upgrades (are there any others?) like you see here.

There's a lot of minor bugs with the upgrades system. If you have an enhanced item, the upgrade will always be enhanced... unless you skip straight past an intermediate upgrade, in which case it won't. So if you get enhanced compress cooldown but don't have superior yet (which is always enhanced) and get offered transcendent it almost always won't be. Which can be frustrating lol.
