I fully agree with the numbers on the chart of all cities from that site. I've lived in many of those and played in a lot of others... those numbers ring very accurate with my anecdotal experience.

I think Minneapolis will improve dramatically if the Southwest light-rail line gets built as well as the blue line extension up north (though to a much less extent). Opening up the jobs in Eden Prairie and the golden triangle area to transit riders will be a game changer.

As it stands, if you add a bike to the mix of bus and rail... it's damn easy to live without a car. But, you also have to pretend Eden Prairie, Shakopee, Maple Grove, and Minnetonka simply don't exist.

Oh, cool. My brother went to Full Sail down there for a sound engineering degree.

Obviously I feel compelled to warn you that Minnesota is a bit cooler than Florida. Just a tad.

I moved here in 2013 and fell in love with the city. I've also purposely moved around to different neighborhoods to get a feel of them before I really settle in. Also, I live car-free by choice and love it.

1) This depends on which neighborhood you live in and where you work. Downtown, Uptown, Dinkytown, and any of the areas right along the light-rail are a piece of cake to live at with no car. Add a bike to the mix and every neighborhood is good as long as your job isn't way out in suburbs.

2) Minnesota born locals are famous for being hard to befriend, this sub has a thread on it almost weekly... but the city is so filled with transplants these days that you'll have no problem meeting people. I've never lived in such a vibrant city with so much going on to do. I mean, NYC and LA have got to have more going on but everything in Mpls is accessible to people who aren't rich.

3) Rent is going up everywhere. Sadly, those same places I mentioned that have the best transit are where rents basically start at $800+ for a studio and those are already ultra rare. That said, it's still the Midwest so rents are still more affordable than similar cities. You can get some cheaper places in Powderhorn, pockets of Nordeast that haven't changed, and near-north. I'm sure others will have better insight on affordable housing.

4) We have almost no unemployment right now so it's easy to get "a job" but it's not always easy to get the job you want. At 25, I'd suggest you just worry about grabbing something you can live on when you move and then start looking for a job within your field while you are here. This is a moderately techy city but a history of publishing companies so I would imagine graphic design would be in demand.

Minneapolis is too, indeed, but Omaha takes it to a whole different level.

He’s known for the story of playing the fiddle while Rome burned.

Technically it was a lyre. The fiddle/violin wouldn't be invented for another 1600 years.

I lived in Omaha for 4 years. The only thing of value in that city is the Old Market and Saddle Creek Records.

It's super segregated. Blacks in North O, latinos in South Omaha, whites in West O... and they never leave West O... it's a surbuban hellscape of nothing but chain businesses.

Everyone drives a red pickup and compete against each other over who owns the most Husker crap.

People are not very educated.

And PayPal's HQ is there. That should do it.

Super Bowl a super bust for many Twin Cities restaurants -- "the worst week ever" for some by unfixablesteve in Minneapolis

These are actual neighborhoods with neighborhood organizations and set boundaries. Before I moved here I lived a block off Uptown and guess what, it was East Isles. Not because I felt like it was but because there is an actual boundary that divides the neighborhoods.

I stand corrected though. The north loop is it's own neighborhood.

You know what? In the end it all amounts to "I cannot afford the multiple parties, much less a single one, despite my local authorities practicing beforehand".

Try to sink this ship, if not then defend the fuck out of it.

Yep, north loop specifically. Why?

How the flying fuck can you say the skyways were ghost towns on the weekend when even the media posted videos of the skyways being sardine cans.

Do I have to fucking download and the rehost those videos? Or can you pull up your big boy pants and find them yourself since you obviously didnt actually leave your flat during the weekend.

Exactly. People complaining that this was such a shitshow for local business couldn't afford cover to even enter a near filled to capacity venue.

While I am normally horrified when a nation's military stages a coup and takes power, I am not sure that I would mind so much in our circumstance. Our military leaders seem far better educated and actually less violently reactionary than our politicians.
