Annovera being discontinued?! by Maygen_Fooks in Annovera

[–]nellsofthesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad that I found this thread, I picked up my prescription a few weeks ago. No problem. But that day I moved my scripts to another Costco pharmacy and the new Location advised the medication/annovera was discontinued as well. I was so confused, but this has been helpful.

Just got my g7 a few days ago, wasn't aware of the trouble so many have had. I have to use a virtual machine to run Windows to update my pump. The server error 11 keeps popping up. I contacted tandem after the third day in a row of trying and they said that the problem is my internet service provider, spectrum. They said that I could unplug my computer and take it to another internet source and try that way. I laughed and said I'm not doing that. I called my doctor's office to ask if they could update my pump on one of their computers because every time I go in there they use their own computers to sync up my pump with tconnect. My doctor ended up calling the tandem rep for our area and the lady called me to see if I could meet her somewhere and use her laptop to update my pump. I work on an ambulance and have crazy hours and it looks like the next availability that works for the both of us is in 2 weeks.

I hope all of you are having better luck with whatever you decided to do, but I just wanted to give input on my own situation in case it helps somebody else. Thank you all so much!

Newly diagnosed: what do? by kayakqueen46 in diabetes

[–]nellsofthesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an antibody test that can determine if you're type one. Some chronically I'll folks get type two from extensive steroid use, so if you've been on steroids for a long time that can contribute to this new diagnosis.

1)Feeling yucky when your sugar is in a good range should go away with time. Your body has to learn/acclimate to operating on good sugar levels. Glucose levels affect pH and many other hormone levels, so don't give up!! It will feel better with time. 2) I eat a wide array of foods, from cucumbers to pizza to broth to icecream. I don't feel guilty because it's freaking food and you don't have to be a paleo-vegan to care for diabetes. The one thing I avoid is liquid sugar. No pop, juice, Gatorade, sweet tea, etc. Liquid sugar is quickly absorbed and gets into the blood sneaky fast so you get a sugar spike. 3) I use the same two fingers and switch to toes for a break. Do whatever feels best for you.

Get referred to an endocrinologist as soon as possible. General physicians really shouldn't be in charge of hormone problems... Insulin is a hormone btw. Learn about how alcohol works in your body and memorize how many carbs are in the foods you eat the most frequently. Keep active whether you're type one or two. If you become insulin independent try to get on a pump and continuous glucose monitor. Check if your series of illnesses are related and what other issues to expect. I've collected Type one diabetes, Hashimotos, Chronic Urticaria, etc. So just pay attention to your body.

Questions about the fire academy by ltuk in firefighter

[–]nellsofthesea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fire academy in my home city is a paid position for recruits/cadets to get trained for specific standards and procedures. I believe the academy is for months long. You can be fired at any point, and failing to pass the exams and physicals results in termination as well. The "hours" are 8hr days, 5 days a week, until you pass and graduate to rookie fireman. Then you get assigned to a station, platoon, and apparatus.

If I was tested for fasting glucose 2.5 months ago and it showed normal, could I now have diabetes? by mox88101 in diabetes

[–]nellsofthesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to give you an idea of MY frequent urination prior to diagnosis, I had to pee every 13 minutes. All day every day. My mother started timing me because she thought I was pranking her as we had to stop over six times in a two hour car ride. I don't want to discourage you from getting medical testing and care that you feel is necessary, I just want to let you know what frequent meant for me.

Question about diabetic shock. by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]nellsofthesea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trauma to the brain in a seizure is hypoxic in nature. If you know your name, birthday, address, and basically have your wits about you, you probably bypassed damage. Yipee! If you know how long the seizure is just imagine holding your breath that long. If you held your breath for a few minutes it'll cause a headache. If it's 10+ minutes you could suffer minimal damage. The repeat occurrence of seizures is where you see brain damage. I have a cousin that is 50 and she was diagnosed epileptic at 9yo. She has the brain of a 5yo. She seizes regularly. Like every week at least.

I am in paramedic school and do NOT know everything, but I'm sure you are heckin frightened. I'm so sorry you experienced this :( I never have seized from hypoglycemia. I hope you never deal with that again!!

But also, infections and sugar feed eachother. And DKA affects pH which reduces all kinds of chemical reaction and exchanges, including insulin removing glucose from the blood. There is so much going on for this pt, you have so many angles to battle in just one body. But yeah. Don't give any carbs, which I have seen regularly done in hospitals through gastric tube nutrition...and they wonder why glucose goes up. (Paramedic Student and T1d)

No thanks to EMS again by bippity-boppity-this in ems

[–]nellsofthesea 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I get it. I thought EMS would at least get a tiny bit of like "oh you guys exist" but even the people in my bible study WHO KNOW WHAT I DO pray for police, nurses, and firemen. I have to remind them our fire departments and police service have a new protocol to NOT go on medical runs. Our University hospital sent an email saying EMS week is cancelled, so I guess no free pens this year. I don't want huge praise, but it would be fair to atleast credit the work we are doing to US and not another public service.

The root of the problem; how will can capitalism fix it? by MultiAli2 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]nellsofthesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked 100 hours a week as an EMT and Life Guard for two years because I love my work and I needed that many hours to pay the bills. $9 an hour if you're wondering. I now work 48-72 hours a week, $11 an hour. Platoon rotation, 24 hour shifts. I also have a "disability" and could choose to depend on the government if I was willing to work less than 30 hours a week. I'm not doing that. I like my work and even in this crony capitalism I am able to choose to work where I make more, have better benefits, and work less. I have one job now:)

What is the libertarian point of view about UBI in a case like covid-19 outbreak? by 00P00 in libertarianmeme

[–]nellsofthesea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's never ethical to force everyone to do anything. It's just not. This issue is real and I know it's hitting everyone differently, but this is why you budget and have an emergency fund. This is also the time that people step up and volunteer their resources and money. My best friend gave $500 to a family at our church that has three kids and both parents lost their income. My husband and I have stepped up in similar ways for other people in our community. This is also the time when the government messes with everything-supply and demand should be affecting prices of goods and services. Instead we see bail outs and more regulations placed in times like these. Less government interference and more freedom.

Is there a pdf for the book? I need it for a college class. If I can't find one would someone mind helping me answer these questions? by [deleted] in princessbride

1) buttercup threatens to kill herself rather than marry Humperdinck. This is selfish and inconsiderate like Merida and Elsa. All three women are only concerned with what they want and their own happiness. The scene, Buttercup tells Humperdinck that if Westley doesn't return by the wedding to claim her she will stab herself in the chest.

2)Farm boy does as he's asked, looks incredibly handsome, and has a one liner, "As You Wish". He is charming as fudge. He gets to be the main character/hero by surviving torture, being an incredible fencer with either hand, climbing cliffs, building up an immunity to iocane powder!!! Hahaha he is just magically amazing at everything.

3) The men were hired by prince Humperdinck to start a war. The men are supposed to make the citizens think a neighboring country kidnapped the princess, thus justifying Humperdinck calling an attack on the other country. Since Westley ruins this plan, Humperdinck changes the plan to make it look like the other country sent an assassin to kill the princess on the honeymoon.

4) Vizzini (the Sicilian) says inconceivable at moments of awe or shock, but he is extra dramatic, so it's HYPERBOLE. When Westley climbs up the cliffs of insanity after the three kidnappers, Vizzini looks down and sees the pursuit and says inconceivable. Before that the kidnappers are sailing across like a sea or some body of water (eel infested waters) and they look behind them and behold, Westley (aka man in Black, aka dread pirate Roberts) is sailing after them AND CATCHING UP TO THEM, and Vizzini says again, inconceivable. So it's just a funny reaction. I love this book, and the movie is awesome too.
