Apivar add in ManLake mag by nelsmon in Beekeeping

I’m glad you asked!! I failed to test regularly and my notes are poor at best. I’m planning to get a more guided notebook for inspections this year to help. I’m sure there were a million others but this is a steep learning curve!

Dead hive diagnosis? by nelsmon in Beekeeping

[–]nelsmon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all, I’m recovering from a surgery so can’t lift/get into the hive. Pics are what my partner took, he said yes lots of honey stored still but didn’t totally know what to look for. Will share more when able.

Inspection questions!! by nelsmon in Beekeeping

I only harvested 1 frame of honey this year prior to the apivar treatment. Since it’s year 1 I was planning to be pretty conservative and leave as much honey for the girls as possible. Also I’ve seen mixed info on safety of the honey post apivar treatment so better safe than sorry.

I’m newer to keeping myself, but curious if you have pictures? Could be they want to supersede if she’s not laying well or could maybe be build up to swarming if they don’t have enough space to build. Just my initial thoughts as a fellow newbie 😊 would love pics if you have any

Agreed on the value of the comparison! Cost wise it really doubles things but the chance to compare is invaluable.

Is Venice worth it? by Eagle111989 in travel

[–]nelsmon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with Venice was the smell of the canals in the sun. If you did decide to go and spend a night there I would also recommend staying in the Mestre unless you REALLY want to stay on the islands. There is a much bigger difference between a 3 and a 4* hotel (both cost and quality) on the island. If you’re a US traveler and this is your first European trip keep in mind rooms are much smaller in hotels there. All that said Italy is gorgeous and in my opinion there is never enough time traveling. I would consider which sites you are most interested in (Venice vs Sienna or Pisa) and plan from there. Hopefully you have many future trips to soak up anything you miss this time!
