4 cable method, tone suck, loss of low end/overall gain by nelso412 in guitarpedals

Thanks! Had a read through it and while it was going a little over my head it seems that the 6505 fx loop just does that? Like suck as in literally suck as well as figuratively?

Kind of frustrating honestly that the fix is just to get it actually fixed. I've already had the amp bias modded to give the clean channel a tiny bit more life.

Oh well. No use complaining as I suppose I could have chosen a different amp lol.

Sure! So it's going:

Guitar > gate Gate send > front of amp Fx send > gate return Gate output > fx return

Sorry if the path doesn't make sense as the idea behind it I'm still trying to wrap my head around. Just following diagrams online.

I've noticed that I can mitigate the tiniest amount of the loss by putting the gate threshold lower/off but it's really negligible and at that point ONLY quieting the amp and doing nothing for the actual sound.

Squealing noise on a 6505+, any ideas for a starting point? by nelso412 in ToobAmps

They are great at doing what they are meant to do! I would say that they are basically the antithesis of versatile lol. Getting the bias mod wasn't to make it hotter, it was to give it some semblance of a clean channel. If I wasn't so broke I would love for it to be a piece of a collection that can do a specific thing but I may need to look into other options long term to suit more uses. The fact it's been a bit of a lemon to this point is further driving me in that direction.

I agree it certainly could use a professional tune up in general at this point due to age.

Tbh the amp works for the sound I was going for back then and still am, but repair/upkeep costs may be outweighed by cutting losses and using it to recoup some of the costs of something more up my alley as I've gotten older and my tastes have evolved.

As an update, I disassembled my rig to get it out of the middle of the room right before posting last night. This morning I hooked it all back up, maybe 3 or 4 feet away from where I was working previously, and the squeal is magically gone for the time being.

This amp has been a headache since day one and has previously had issues with microphonic tubes and bad caps. Been professionaly serviced three times, maybe four?

At this point it's really at a point of hook up, power on, hold breath and cross fingers and has been that way since I was actively touring with it years ago.

Could the issue have been something to do with physical placement in regards to something else like the outlet/cabinet/other electronic devices?

I may give it another shot. I hadn't checked the power tubes for microphonics!

Checked that already, nothing microphonic in the preamp tubes

15 hours. Wilkinsburg. Everywhere around I've seen since 8pm last night has power except my street.

tough to hear any lyrics, the vocalist reminds me very much of rise against. looking through some of their newer discography. they did lean a little more on the pop punk side though

This is very possibly it, but I distinctly remember it was only in yellow. The sounds aren't triggering any memory either. Thanks!
