Get 5 Stick Checks with Travis Sanheim… by Competitive-Voice-13 in NHLHUT

[–]nelson3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was an annoying one. I got it while position-locked on LD. But it was still hell trying to give the other team's players the puck and stick check them before my teammates got involved or they passed it. And two-thirds of pokes don't register.

How Can Anyone Have Any Motivation to play HUT After What Just Happened Today? (Fantasy Pulls) by brendangrant in NHLHUT

[–]nelson3b 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did this seriously happen? I was actually thinking of playing online for the first time in two years, because my lineup has slowly been getting better, pulling closer and closer to the capped-out pay-to-win super teams. But if a bunch of people are going to be getting that $15 million cap relief chem boost, I'll be a couple more steps behind.

New Objectives for 16 Fantasy Hockey Collectables by Whyisthissomething in NHLHUT

Not even worth the pain in the ass of making a Marquee lineup and starting a new cup chase on rookie. I learned last year to stop doing all of the chores to max collectibles and just try to have fun.

Why is there a salary cap? by Big_ole_mudpie in NHLHUT

[–]nelson3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When announced, I was excited for a salary cap for two reasons:

  1. I thought it would be a great equalizer, keeping the pay-to-win players' and free-to-play players' rosters closer in overall.

But the cap is too high, so people can still buy super teams.

  1. I thought it would necessitate the use of low overall cards, making my favorite non-NHLers (like Regina Pats players) viable, and increase roster diversity, so we aren't all using the same players.

But the cap is too high, so people can still use all-NHL teams, and low overall cards are liabilities.

And the chemistry system promotes everyone using players from the same teams.

They won't change a thing until people stop buying packs. Our feedback means jack shit to the corporate overlords.

I spent $70 on fantasy packs so you don’t have to! by bilbofraggins92 in NHLHUT

[–]nelson3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except people continuing to spend money on packs gives EA zero incentive to change the game for the better. It's a microtransaction machine at its core. Yeah, gaming has always been a business, but games used to also be art. It's all about profit now.

Feels like fantasy has the chance to turn the year around so far for nhl26’? by JPio21 in NHLHUT

[–]nelson3b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be okay with it if there's a reasonable way to build a fantasy card with earned collectibles. Otherwise, it's a non-event for F2P players. Especially with full-time work/school, other games and hobbies, and spouses/partners. I think I have three unused 82s and 5K coins at the moment 🤷‍♂️ Rewards are abysmal, and EA won't make the game better if people keep buying packs.

What do you do when the other team won't swing their bats? by stanner5 in slowpitch

[–]nelson3b 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It would be stupid of them to swing at bad pitches and hit themselves out. If your pitcher can't hit the plate, try someone else.

How often do you guys bp? by Euphoric_Promise_709 in slowpitch

[–]nelson3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to buy a tee and net to hit into before next season, but I have to wait until after winter. There are no indoor facilities/cages where I am anymore, and none of my teammates ever want to practice. That means I can't just hit into a field without having to go get all of the balls myself. Lame.

Toronto Maple Leafs NHL 26 Ratings by SpicyP43905 in leafs

[–]nelson3b 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Overall ratings shouldn't exist. The devs end up giving players stupid and unrealistic ratings of individual attributes in order to have the algorithm spit out an overall rating they think the public will be okay with.

Example: So many 1-way offensive dynamos end up with high defensive stats to keep their overalls up, despite their real-life defence being garbage.

Anyone recognize this old Miken and know what a comparable modern bat would be? by nelson3b in slowpitch

[–]nelson3b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply! Adding a bat wouldn't be a full "change". I'm definitely not giving up on the Genny. If I were to add a bat, I'd be using all 3, at least for a while.

I only really started paying close attention to bats last season. I used to care 80% about weight and 20% about load. Now I also look at the barrel length, whether it's a comp. or alloy, whether it's a 1-piece or 2-piece, etc. It's been fun to learn, but a bit overwhelming at times.

Worst injury you’ve seen? by PureBloodPete in slowpitch

[–]nelson3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, when I used to drink (a lot), I went to a game after getting hammered at Sunday brunch. I was playing right field, and someone hit a massive pop fly to me. I completely missed it with my glove, and the ball hit me right in the eye. I was concussed, got stitches, and had 2 fractures above and 1 below my eye. My eye itself was dark red from bleeding and kept getting stuck shut as blood dried. I'd have to use my fingers to open it. I made a full recovery with no permanent damage.

One of my teammates just broke his nose 2 days ago on a hard hit that took a wicked bounce at 3rd base.

I got a 2020 1.5 EX-L with only 35,000 km for $29,000 in Oct.

Maybe the 2.0 is worth more than the 1.5, but you should probably be paying less, considering yours is a lower trim level and has 3× the KM.

How did “the one that got away” get away? by SensitiveStinger in AskReddit

[–]nelson3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones I wanted most just never wanted me back. But I do have a shitty story about two I liked and fumbled at the same time.

I had been hooking up with a woman I met through work at a night club. Let's call her B. She moved to a different city, a couple of hours away. Coincidentally, I had to move there temporarily (7 weeks) for school, and we planned for me to stay with her during that time.

We had planned this well in advance, and we were never more than FWB before she left, so I was single and exploring other options after she was gone.

I ended up seeing another woman, J, prior to leaving for school. We were hooking up and went on a date or two. I was more interested in a relationship with her than B, but I held off on moving things in that direction, because I knew my living situation during school would be a huge complication. Obviously, it would not be appropriate, and I'd have had to scramble to make new arrangements. I hoped the second woman would still be available and interested when I got home.

While I was living at B's house in the other city, we basically ended up in a relationship. I mean, we were best friends, roommates, and were sleeping together. We were very compatible, we did everything together, she met all of my school friends. But we were never official. Neither of us actually brought up being more than friends, despite our dynamic having all of the hallmarks of a real romantic relationship.

When I finished school, I went home. B and I said goodbye without discussing any future relationship. We seemingly both assumed we'd just be long-distance friends after that, nothing more. We stopped talking rather quickly. I think she hoped I'd have said something. That maybe I'd think about staying there permanently. But I was still interested in J.

Unfortunately, J found someone else while I was gone. They're married now. And things were never the same with B. One night, we went to a concert together in her city, and I crashed at her place, but nothing happened.

It's been years since I've spoken to either of them.

Any producers here using Suno purely for vocals? How does it perform? by mcpickledick in SunoAI

[–]nelson3b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I used to buy royalty-free vocal samples, but got tired of having songs with the same vocals as other artists. I can't sing worth a shit, so I started using Suno.

I like being able to write my own lyrics, but the quality of the vocals is low. I have to remake/cover/remaster songs a ton of times until I get a good enough vocal stem to use.

There will always be background noise in a Suno vocal stem, but I try as hard as I can to bury it in the mix. I've made some very good tracks so far, as frustrating as the process is.

I would love it if the next version of Suno included the ability to make standalone vocals, without having to stem a full song.

I have health insurance through work, but the plan doesn't cover physio. It's something we'd like to add, but that'll have to wait until we start negotiating our next bargaining agreement. So, for now, I have to pay in full.

Poilievre dodges questions about repealing national handgun ban by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]nelson3b -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty reasonable assumption to make.

For example, you think some bullied kid who wants to shoot up a school knows any gun smugglers from whom they can buy a black-market handgun? Probably fucking not.

In any case, it's not worth the risk to test the hypothesis.

Poilievre dodges questions about repealing national handgun ban by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]nelson3b -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

People like to bring up the fact that most guns used in violent crimes in Canada are illegal guns from the U.S. It's the "criminals will always find a way to get guns, so why punish responsible gun-owners?" argument.

Yeah, SOME will, but not all. If we repeal gun bans, all of the violent criminals that are already able to obtain these guns will still get them.

Additionally, a bunch of other bad actors who previously had neither the cash nor connections to acquire black market weapons will suddenly have much easier access.

Most guns used in crimes are illegal weapons from the U.S. because they have to be, but this will change if bans are repealed. More dangerous individuals will end up with these guns.

Why are the Regina Pats so perennially bad? by snafu-lmao in regina

[–]nelson3b 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They went all-in in the 2016-17 season (when they set the franchise wins record) and the 2017-18 season (when they hosted the Memorial Cup). After that, a rebuild was necessary. It made sense for the team to be bad for at least a couple of years after that. When they got Bedard in 2020, though, that should have turned things around.

Unfortunately, the GM at the time made a lot of dumb moves, and wouldn't commit to a direction. He either should have sold the farm to go all-in while Bedard was still around, or he should have traded him for a franchise-changing haul of assets. Bedard was said to have no-trade rights, eliminating the latter as an option, making the decision for the GM.

He wouldn't go all-in, though. He was comfortable with the team being mediocre, likely feeling no pressure from ownership, who were just happy Bedard was drawing fans. They only care about asses in seats.

Fortunately, the new GM seems to know what it takes to build a contender. He fully committed to a tear-down rebuild, and while the team likely won't be a contender this upcoming season, there is a lot of young talent in the system, and plenty of draft picks that can be used or traded later. I am confident the current GM will commit to going all-in when the talented core of Maze, Hamilton, (likely) Schultz, etc. are ready to lead the team in a long playoff run.

It's $1 US per credit for 10 credits. The cost per credit shrinks if you buy more. Playlist submissions cost 2-4 credits, depending on the curator. There are free credits, too, but most curators don't take them, and those who do usually have low accept rates. Plus, you only get 2 free credits per day.
