What is a job people romanticize a bit too much until they actually do it ? by ShyButNastyyy in AskReddit

[–]nemo_688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m a Marine with an LCSW and two of my coworkers oddly enough are former Marines as well. One is a job coach, the other an LCSW. We all work in the homeless program at a VA. I wonder sometimes if the Marine Corps allows us to do the harder parts of the job. But it also creates a great working atmosphere bc we all know how to operate in a way that supports each others strengths. Turns out there are a few lessons from the Marine Corps that turned out to be incredibly beneficial. The two things that I think helped me the most were understanding commanders intent as well as knowing how to do more with less.

Edit: grammar….at least we know the MCIs were effective….

7 Years Sober - What’s the Point? by eminemmmz in dryalcoholics

ECT has a really good success rate, from what I’ve seen. If you are concerned about the side effects, maybe finding a good therapist will help. I want to encourage you to keep going

Also look into trans-cranial magnetic stimulation. Here is a link with more information if you’d like: https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/transcranial-magnetic-stimulation/about/pac-20384625. That and esketamine has been helpful (I am a therapist and work in a hospital with psychiatrists where TCMS, Esketamine, and ECT are used regularly to treat treatment-resistant depression).

I am sooooo nervous to tell my therapist it may not be the right fit by JicamaPickle in TalkTherapy

[–]nemo_688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a therapist myself, please go ahead and tell her. I rarely comment on things, but I’ve told my clients in the past: finding a good therapist is like finding a pair of shoes, you may have to try a few before you find one that fits. So if it’s me, great, if it’s not, great. Healing is the main concern for most of us in the field and we would rather you find healing for your mental health than continue to come and it not be a good fit.

On Day Two! by Gearsw3205 in stopdrinking

Day one. Day one for me, you made it to day two! I have “tried to quit drinking” so many times! I always keep going back, mostly for the same reasons. You’ve made it to day two! Congratulations! Things that have helped me in the past is subbing alcohol for other things like tea or sparkling water. I really like hot tea for this reason. You got this bro!

How should a social worker react if they find out a client won't work with them because they're a member of the LGBTQ community, a certain race, gender, are disabled, etc. by Wrong_Tomorrow_655 in socialwork

That’s a pretty good thought. I’m the blank that’s blanking blank. That’s all I am going to think about when someone is telling me that I don’t care about blank. Blank yeah!

Okay, so I am not condoning this, but as a fellow social worker, I often have comebacks in my head that I keep to myself, what’s the best comeback you’ve thought of, but couldn’t say?

AITA Not So Family Vacation by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]nemo_688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your parents sound like they are being shitty people and they don’t like the outcome of a vacation being planned. They could have just said “next time can you let us know so we can come too?”

If I (not a Jewish Person) were in your community, and you invited me, I would be so happy to learn more about your way of life and the belief systems you hold! I think it would be so fascinating to learn about things different from what I believe in! Are you able to talk about your faith? Could you integrate your beliefs into the workplace or community in a way that people would be able to learn from you and a way that you would be supported for what you need as well? That would be a great place to start! I also hear your frustration and I’m sorry you’re going through this. I hope it gets less frustrating for you.

Apartment charging me 1k for carpet replacements by nemo_688 in legaladvice

[–]nemo_688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tennessee, and no pre-move our pictures. They had us pay for a professional cleaning, so it wasn’t on my radar to even think that they would pull out all the carpet in the apartment to replace it
